    ►Part 2: • pt2 BAND MAID React | ...
    In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Band-Maid.
    A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
    I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

    I thought finger style was the only correct way to play bass until I saw MISA.

    Thanks for returning to Band-Maid =) You should try some more live performances by them ! I would suggest "Real Existence" Official Live It has the best production and best sound. Blooming is such a great song and MV Thanks Dean Great Reaction

    I think for prog...it would be "Giovanni"...which I love as an instrumental...But I'm no expert so what do I know?.....I know I love BAND-MAID!!!!!🥰😊

      yes, the instrumentals do seem more proggy. But whatever.. great music!

      @@deanwolfechannel Well..."Giovanni" isn't an instrumental...it's just that they did an instrumental of the track...Kanami's guitar gets a lost in the vocal song.....but shines in the instrumental.

    The vocals breakdown after Kanami's solo reminds me of "Yes" . It just has that beautiful Anderson-Squire feel to it.

    Surprised to see Blooming called their most proggy song, but then Justin Hawkins thought DICE was proggy, so what do I know. I do think Blooming is among their most beautifully crafted though: the result of an experiment where Kanami (lead guitar) asked every band-member to write a fragment of a song and she put them together.
    Btw Miku (rhythm guitar/vocal) shares your fondness for sharks, and sometimes has them with her on stage

      Agree. Far from their most proggy song..
      But among their most well composed. Nice blend of progginess, but also keeping that hit potential. Filled with fantastic musicianship.

    Miku , Red Rose, has always a pair of little sharks on her pedal board.

    Prog adjacent is the right word for Band-Maid, but I'm not sure Blooming is proggy.
    Actually I don't know what prog is meant to sound like any more.
    I love this song though. Bass (and drum) is always loud in Band-Maid mix so naturally people pick bass line first, and drum and bass are part of what give Band-Maid sound the undeniably irresistible texture and crunch.

  • @AMetalheadsPerspective
    @AMetalheadsPerspective 2 роки тому +4

    Well it does touch base on some proggy elements but thru and thru I would say its not their most prog song by any stretch. Great reaction!

    They were singing English. Didn't you catch it? Check the lyrics. Hammer Ons are played with the fretting hand exclusively. That was Tapping..

    Band Maid does not play a genre, they ARE a genre. Pop, rock, hard rock, metal, punk, prog, sludge, thrash. Sometimes all in one song.

      All of their songs are a pleasure to listen to because they just play and sing so beautifully. They have the feminine form of instrument mastery. Where it just sounds so damn pretty.

      I did not mean that this song is prog rock, but one of their most progressive songs.
      Don't you think the song's structure and arrangement, especially the abrupt transition after the guitar solo, is progressive?

    Always the same bands just for viewers and money. It is bad .. I read people suggesting you interesting different things , but you sayied ok, and then nothing . 🤥 a dude for example suggested you NOFX The Decline, another Green Day Jesus of Suburbia. All good suggestions but you didn’t do that . And don’t misunderstand me !.. I absolutely LOVE Band-Maid! 🎵🙏🏼♥️but .. please .. 20 Alip ba ta videos .. COME ON !.. 😉 I am not stupid 💴

    This is still my favorite Band-Maid song. It’s just perfectly crafted to my tastes and has all the things I like most about each member’s specialties. It’s like a showcase piece.

  • @steven5634

    I'd say just about all of their songs on unseen world and the sense EP are either prog punk/hard rock or at the very minimum have prog elements throughout each song. It's like they squash a prog rock song into less than 4 minutes, which is why it takes so many listens to appreciate it fully. I'm a big DT and polyphia fan so I feel super at home listening to them
    Edit: having said that it's possible that they seem that way because they are not constrained by a particular genre. It's why many (myself included) say that band maid are a genre unto themselves.

    For the record, there is no such thing as prog rock. Okay, bring the hate.

    • @deanwolfechannel
      @deanwolfechannel  2 роки тому

      No hate needed! It's simply a label and labels are just for organization. It will forever be debatable. But there tends to be a certain mindset among prog bands.

    • @lurkmerchant
      @lurkmerchant 2 роки тому

      No hate. But someone can create a term for a different sound even if such a term had never existed. I think start over has prog pop element but I don't think such a term exist either 😁

      @@deanwolfechannel A bit more context. My favorite band as you may have guessed was Kansas until Band-Maid came my way in 2020. 😎Prog and Rock are a great combination whether it's 10% or 90% prog.
