Chatting to Chris Gunby about the only factory-built Triumph Vitesse coupé

The Triumph Sports Six Club (TSSC) owns the only Triumph Vitesse coupé ever made by the factory. Here I caught up with TSSC chairman Chris Gunby on the Triumph Sports Six Club stand (tssc.org.uk) at the 2021 NEC classic car show, where he told me all about this unique car.

Ironically the only part of it that differentiates it from a standard one is the bit right behind him, incredible.

But it is a mighty fine blue jumper... The plan is to do a proper video with Chris and the Vitesse coupé at the TSSC's HQ next year, where you'll be able to see everything - inside, under the bonnet, and the rear three-quarter shot that you're so desperate to see...

He makes a better door than a window. I thought at first that he was just hiding the 'coupe' part in preparation for a reveal.

My vote is restore it to look exactly as it did rolling off the production line at Canley. What a brilliant find and what a beautiful car it will be.. 👏👏👏👍👍👍

I vote for get it running and show it, if people want to see it fully restored down the line perfect but as a static display that's not for me.

The coupe hardtop was just bolted on wasnt it? So its a vitesse with a bolted on roof nothing else?

If it were original patina I,d say leave it but since it was rubbed down recently it makes sense to go back to the original colour paint job

The 1600 Vitesse is a lovely jewel of a car. I am surprised this was a one-off. There must have been some demand for this... in period this was quite a rakish look.
A Vitesse 1600 with overdrive was some sort of Herald GTi. Small, understated and really very swift and capable for a car of that type on the 60s.
