I would say that the game was still very simple back then but it was interesting to see all of these great players just start playing in there first seasons so I would rank them a 7 1/2 out of 10
1- Amazon- Most Complex 2- Australian Outback- Best Cast 3- Africa- Second best cast (out of these) 4- Marqueses- Some fun moments and a great story 5- Borneo- boring but good jumping off point 6- Thailand

8.5/10 for me. Amazing casting choices with great strategy, but a few duds along with a controversial theme that hold this season back somewhat. EDIT: #5 on my entire rank list
This feels like the first fluid season of the show, where nobody was safe and alliances were ever changing. I love The Amazon simply for how it elevated the game and brought great characters, and more importantly strategy. Best season to this point, but Pearl Islands is a close call next season!
1: Amazon: An unpredictable season with a really fun cast and it has rob Cesternino 2: Marquesas: The Rotu 4 downfall basically makes the season but with characters such as rob, john, kathy puts it at 2: 3: Africa, not a complete pagonging but kinda one, Ethan Tom and Lex made the season but they aren't as good as amazon or marquesas 4: Borneo, This season was a mess and to me, not really in a good way. I care a lot of about strategy and this season had a huge lack of it. Its not on the bottom because the characters were really good though, its definitely a toss up between African and this for 3rd and 4th 5: Australian Outback: Honestly, I found this season pretty boring, for the most part it was predictable and only a few characters like tina colby and jerri were memorable, it took me a long time to finish this on my first watch because I was just bored each episode, maybe I could enjoy it more on a rewatch 6: Thailand, the cast was either unlikeable or forgettable, people like ted and clay were kinda fun and brian was a good winner but even those characters aren't that good and a lot of the good ones went out premerge. It got really predictable at the merge and was clear Brian was going to win. This is my least favorite season of all time by a long shot.
Agreed on all accounts. I'd cut Borneo some slack simply cuz it was season 1. Australia WAS really boring. They focused on the monotony too much. Amazon and Africa were good 👍

I agree with everything here except I had Australia much higher, but I think that was mostly because of the mid-merge survival struggles they had. It was probably my most memorable season for the survival aspect.
When you finish the US seasons, are there any plans to look at the other English language international seasons as well (Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, UK)?
I do plan on doing some Australian Survivor even before finishing/catching up to where we are in the US show. I have yet to watch a full season of South Africa or New Zealand so I cannot promise those.
I wouldn’t recommend Australian survivor just because people play with less strategy and more emotion so if your looking for something for like the US I would say some of the other ones are better
Wow I just finished watching this season last week. Rob really took control of the strategy & would of won. Jenna played well and was a deserving winner. Matt should of won though. Every time I thought Matt was going home, his immunity or strategic cohorts with Rob kept him safe. He then made the ultimate move by losing final immunity. He knew Jenna would take him to the end & eliminate Rob with no blood on his hands.
And that was his mistake. His social game was unexistent, therefore he needed to be really remarkable strategically to win and sadly he was perceived as Rob sideguy
Top 5 season for me, would be my favorite of what I consider true old school survivor 1-8 if it wasn't for the best season overall, which is Pearl Islands, can't wait for that one.

I didn't realize watching it live how much production & strategy improved here, I love these analysis! For me, I think they succeeded in Making Rob C. a villain to root against. I also see some similarities in his edit to Lex in Africa as an anti-hero for those who liked him. Maybe for her time, but I think Jenna could still pull off a Michelle Fitzgerald if she played another full season. Matt, Heidi, and Christy would've been great to see again, and a Butch-aged Rob C. would be hilarious to see after so long! 😆
1. Rob C set the blue print on how to flip things when you are the next one voted out. 2. Jenna and Hedi innovated the polidicking strategy that Parv went on to master.
1) Borneo - It's the first, the most important, and most unique, and I wouldn't feel right if it wasn't number one. 2) Africa - Amazing first eight episodes, with a good winner and fantastic rewards. 3) Marquesas - Like Africa, great first eight episodes, but gets boring afterwards. Not the best cast and Vecepia doesn't make for the best TV. 4) Amazon - Similar to your review, it's amazing until the finale. My only other problem is that there is no amazing storyline, like the fall of the Rotu Four or the Samburus. 5) Thailand - If you ignore the obvious problems, it's kind of a dark comedy. Also gets points for ending with the two best episodes of the season. 6) Australia - I don't think the postmerge is completely bad, but the finale is my easily my least favorite of the first seven. Solid cast, but there are better, IMO.
You know, rewatching Amazon, I can safely say that this was a very good season as nearly every episode is pretty damn solid in its own certain way. Plus the characters are mostly great, however as you mentioned, the winner is extremely unsatisfying as this is easily one of the worst winner edits that the show has ever had. They don't even try to make us root for Jenna at any point or try to convince you that she actually did anything to merit being in the Final 2. Now she did win because she definitely had the better final tribal, but still overall I'm just left wanting more and I really wish we got to see more of stuff that Jenna actually did as it just feels like for such a good season, it really ends with a whimper.
I know it'll be a long time till you get to All-Stars, but since I just re-watched it earlier this year, I can't wait to hear your thoughts about that season. I think it starts out really great, but gets predictable and rather dull post-merge when Rob just totally dominates everyone and everything on the island.
im rewatching this season rn and they did not merge at 5-5. after they swapped at 6-6, tambaqui voted out Jeanne, and jaburu voted out shawna. then they merged. men had 6, women had 4

Amazon is the best because of the fun men vs women twist which makes the preserve pretty fun and the amazing post swap and post merge. It might not have the best cast but it has the most entertainment for me. Marquesas- has a great and consistent cast with some really innovative gameplay. The most underrated out of these first seasons. Africa has a great cast and I love the pre merge and early merge. The late merge kinda sucks but it’s enough to keep it this high. Australia- a tad bit overrated in my opinion. The cast is great of course but it’s less entertaining than any of the three seasons above it with a lot less stuff going on especially after the early merge. I like Africa better because I believe it has a higher high than Australia and is more consistently entertaining. Borneo- the toughest season for me to rank. It’s been a while since I’ve watched it so if I did it might be higher. I don’t have anything bad to say about this season really; great cast, consistent editing, very unique gameplay. I need to rewatch it sometime. Thailand- I just watched Thailand for the first time last month and I don’t think it’s terrible or anything. It has some pretty good characters (including the very underrated Helen Glover) and I liked a lot of the people that made it to the merge (or fake merge). It doesn’t have a high point and it’s gameplay is relatively tame combined with a lot of very forgettable players means I have to rank it #6
Other than Rob C, I don't like a single other person on this season. I recently marathoned seasons 9-40 then started back at 2 (we're saving 1 for last) but this season broke us. We watched two episodes and decided to catch up on Hell's Kitchen. ☹
Although I do wish Rob had won, I don't understand why Matthew didn't win either? He seemed to be fairly likable, he was good at challenges, he gave up his loved one visit for the others, and he helped a lot at camp. Sure he was a bit creepy, but at the end I don't think that matters because I believe he played way better than Jenna.
rob c was a villain. he constantly saying sexist stuff. theres prolly several minutes of him being sexist. like when he said something like "theyre prolly looking for a phone to call their boyfriends so they can come save them". and he generally insulted a lot of ppl in his confessionals. if jerri is a villain, Rob C is a villain

Always makes me laugh how proud Heidi was for "instantly" realizing it was a women vs men twist after only 5 women in a row.

Correction; It was 6 men and 4 women when they merged, not 5 and 5. But those numbers didn't matter here.
I was so disappointed Jenna won. I just did not like her & felt she was so lazy. I really wanted Rob to win
the men where basically Roger Fucking Sexton, Butch, Matthew, and 7 guys who love American Pie

As a kid i hated rob so much. I would say they were successful in making him the villain for me.
