For the Samsung DVD Drives, check the Resistor Arrays behind the IDE connector 82 and 33 OHM should all of them read. Error 12 mostly caused by faulty Resistor Arrays (:

OG Xbox are easy to soft-mod too. And yes it unlock the DVD drive for burnt images. The CD tray is a good way to judge if the drives are the same model.

the og xbox is sweet i still have 3. you can upgrade the cpu to an 1 ghz and upgrade the ram to make it more responsive also they have multiple hdmi kits you can use on it. great video.
System is a 1.1, remove clock cap & clean any leakage, check for developing trace rot from electrolyte leakage, the x5 Nichicon HD VRM caps near the CPU fail on occasion.
Error 12 Samsung DVD drives check for bad resistor arrays near the IDE header, and DVD drives which don't throw errors but don't read - try recapping. ESR meters are handy for ruling out bad caps; MESR-100 and Peak Atlas ESR70 Gold to name some
You can configure the BIOS so the system ignores a missing or faulty DVD drive. Most of my OG Xboxes don't even have the DVD drive installed, mostly because I've slimmed them down. I copy stuff over via FTP to the HDD.

Just got my first OG Xbox, it was modded as well. My choice was between a “factory” model for $110 USD or majorly modded for $120 USD. 4000+ roms for ten bucks, yes please!!! Good find mate, good luck with the continued work on the shed. Just need to find a minty copy of DOA Extreme now.

I’ve switched completely different drives in the OG Xbox with no issue. No changing out boards either. As far as I can tell they aren’t married.
yeah only the HHD are married, password locked. The drives just need to be to have a an Xbox ROM

I've got a softmodded OG Xbox if you want it, I've not plugged it in for years so no idea of the condiition (it worked before it got put away) yours FOC if you'd like to cover the postage
First thing to do is remove the clock capacitor before it does irreparable damage to the board!

I have an OG crystal Xbox that Azidz helped me mod due to the drive not reading disks ( laser issue I think) so you can dump the game and send it to the Xbox over ftp.
I have 1.6 version and i did a needed recap after stop working (place cap era)
Ive still got my OG xbox.
its TSOP flashed. 1tb hard drive, etc
I even internalised the dvd remote sensor, fitted USB ports to the console etc.
But one day i went to play it.. Pushed the power button, and it just power cycles...
powers on, turns off.. instantly tuns back on again, then back off....
Keeps doing that... I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with it :(
(its not the clock cap causing damage, i removed that years ago, before it had even gotten chance to leak)
HL DATA Drives are the best by far!!! Keep it for future Consoles to install Custom Dashboards and Stuff.
The PCBs from the Disks drive are all different. Samsung and Philips even got two seperate revisions :)
You should remove the clock cap though, even if it looks fine. Mine looked pristine but started to leak underneath, v1.0 og xbox too.
I think it's been removed mate. I didn't see it on the board. I could have missed it though
@@TheCod3r I'd circle it out but I cant post links here. It looks like its on the board tho, bottom left theres 3 big caps, inductor and right of the inductor is the cap in question. Maybe it could have been replaced already by whoever owned it before but worth checking out

Oh man i remember my OG Xbox had it for 3 years or so and one day a random GFCI plug showed up with a sticker saying not to use the one it came with and until this day I don’t see very many people using them which is w/e idc but looking it up seems like singed carpets or something doesn’t really sound too bad. I didn’t really read into it tbh.

I have been given/purchased over 5 OG XBOXes to fix. I've only had one working DVD drive. First thing you do, is swap that hard drive out for a SSD and then never use that DVD drive again except for dumping games. save the lasers!
