Crazy how good this single sounds, considering that it was recorded and produced in a super short time period on tour. So excited!

Your description of these great songs make them even greater.
Superb breakdowns. I've never been that great with lyrics but you make it make perfect sense. Thank you !

I love the line '..I sent you / The image of a little yellow face / To tell you that I'm sad about the emptiness that's all around me' to symbolise how the use of emojis is all we have as a society to communicate our feelings to one another, to add to their point of explaining the direction the digital world seems to be going into nowadays.

Singer Jonathan Higgs has also said that that is also what the title and final lines of the chorus are about as well - although the mention of a reactor links into the previous line mentioning an atom bomb - it's also a reflection of him/protagonist simply coldly reacting to content/online life with reactions/emojis

Great review, great track. I think this is possibly their best 'first release' since Get To Heaven (which was the incredible 'Distant Past'). Very, very excited about the album after hearing this song!

It’s one of those songs that really grows on you after 2 or 3 listens.
It’s a very layered piece with great structure and balance. It’s a prime example of everything (no pun intended) working in harmony,I particularly like the added layers as it builds up to the crescendo.
I believe this song won’t age,it will be as listenable in 30 or 100 years as it is now.
I even like the simple video,it complements the song very well. Not sure what the goat is about,it probably just wandered along to see what was going on? 😄

The lyrics are so good. Similar themes they've hit on before, but this one feels personal in a way that some of the others don't.

I really like this band it’s so refreshing to hear something original these days, I can hear snippets of The Beach Boys Queen ELO the partridge family Yes but sounds like none of them at all and the lyrics..the lyrics huh I just have to listen 🙏❤️👹🤷‍♂️😝

I've seen this take in a few places but I think it's simpler than this. I think it's about a couple who've set out to build a life and despite the love they share, they work so hard that they've forgotten why they're doing it - they, or at least the singer exists to work and nothing else. The singer's tiredness and inability to still express or understand his feelings towards his partner. The image of a little yellow face - the singer's partner has written some meaningful text message or email and the singer can only respond with a smiley (or sad) emoji - the limit of their emotional intellegence. He still loves her but can't express himself. I think the song tells us that the couple have met and exceeded their goal in terms of achieving success or stability but they've forgotten that they were supposed to be building a life together.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do agree with your opinion, there are multiple angles that can be explored with this track, one of the beautiful aspects of Everything Everything is that their can always be multiple interpretations.

Currently obsessed with this song. My point of view is a bit different as I feel there is a bit of a love story in there too, but the premise is still the same… impending doom!

One of my favourite bands and I love nearly everything they have done. Somehow I don’t like this much though

I just don’t get the appeal of tracks like this and bad friday. Mad stone and leviathan are way better counterparts in my humble opinion😅
