anyone else notice that the new version of skyrim has some serious issues with completing some quests ( u can skip parts and complete the mission but not turn anything in be it evidence or even talking )
My sneaky blade thirst for Thalmor blood, while playing a Rational man i would probably do this, but i kill Thalmor whenever the chance present itself.
Fun AND profitable, Thalmor armour and weapons do fetch a good price on the open market after all. (Whether you support the Imperials or the Stormcloaks, everyone’s a Capitalist at the end of the day).

Soul Cairn is a fate you don't wish on your worst enemy. . .on the other hand the Dominion's end goal may involve blowing up the planet in an attempt to go back to their higher plane of existence selves and according to many, including other Altmer, their race was never like that. The Dominion comes off as a political death cult.
My favorite part is how you hold the torch. I love to imagine a dude running around, with a fully extended arm holding a flaming torch, even in the middle of broad daylight.
Diogenes of Sinope, the famous philosopher would walk around with a lantern in the daylight, shining into the faces of passersby, saying "I am looking for an honest man".

Too many people say the quest is broken and they didn’t get the peaceful option. The reason is that you didn’t fulfill the requirements. 1: win the civil war for the empire WITHOUT talking about thorald to Tullius. (This step is constantly missed) 2: after and only after condition 1 is met, speak with General Tullius about thorald. 3: take the missive he gives you to Northwatch and present it to the guard. 4: get Thorald out.

An alternative to killing all the Thalmor is to cast the master illusion spell Harmony. I believe only the interrogator is immune so once are rid of him you can walk out calmly with no hostility.
Whether or not someone is immune to an illusion spell depends on their level, so this would only work if the spell your casting is strong enough, and the level scaling hasn't increased the northwatch keep guard's level past the point where harmony spell would work
I'm pretty sure this "peaceful" option was bugged and didn't work in the original release. I guess they fixed it? The General Tullius dialogue option wasn't available. I think that's why people don't know about it.
@@frostytheiceberg1127 According to the wiki (unless it was very recently patched), it is not implemented in the final version of Skyrim, at all. No matter what point you are at in the game, Tullius will always refuse. If it'd work as intended, all that would be required would be to complete the Jagged Crown quest for the Imperials side. My guess would be that if it works, the creator of the video was likely using the Unofficial Skyrim patch and/or another mod restoring cut content.

The only times I have been able to do that peacefully is if I free him after the civil war & joined Imperials & not started the quest until then. Then it's worked.
There was a bug in the original release that made this impossible to do without killing all of them. The unofficial patch on p c actually fixed this issue and made a diplomatic outcome possible
There are so many ways to play this mission. Like 3 ways to sneak in. Attack, use 2 differant ways of politics including your position in the army if only the whole game was like this. Would make a great game even better.
The area is so near the vampire castle that almost in every playthrough that I use a vampire lord that fort gets attacked that when I do this quest no one really tried to stop me
I was there before the quest and released Thorald from his chains but he didn't want to go/move the room he was kept in. I tried to push him out of Nothwatch which of course didn't work so I decided to give him the same fate as the Thalmor. Being a high elf dressed in Thalmor clothing making it extra special. Might go back and resurrect him though.
My first play I thought I did everything right, upon leaving, the woodelf ran straight into a frost troll outside the escape tunnel just after sprinting off on his own!
No you can't, at least not me because he always will say "that's will case to many problems", that's probably some restore content or Anniversary Edition stuff
I tried doing this option in multiple playthroughs but every time I ask mr. Julius Caesar over here to give me that stupid imperial order he always refuses. I don’t think it’s achievable without the use of mods.
The Thalmor claim to represent the height of Tamrielic civilization, but then they descend into barbarism with bloody torture. Perhaps they don't want to admit that they agree with the xenophobic views of the Dunmer

He knows exactly who you’re talking about. There’s a letter to the Battle Born family from Tullius himself detailing his capture. He even writes to them to keep it to themselves. I’m honestly surprised he let Thorald go at all.
On console, does the war have to be won first, before this action can actually go through, or will it not work ? Some things about the war are just too confusing for me and it’s frustrating. 😞

Pretty lazy of bethesda not to change it so thorald goes home this way. It makes sense that he couldn't if he was a fugitive you broke out, but as a released prisoner it doesn't make sense.
Sure, you COULD fight for the Empire, giving the Thalmor free reign all across Skyrim and ensuring there's no safe place for Thorald and Avulstein after the mission... or you could storm the keep as a werewolf and gorge yourself on elf hearts.
How do you gain access to this option? I probably won’t go with this option because I prefer eliminating all these thalmor guards, but I’ve completed the civil war quest line with the empire before doing this and I couldn’t get this option. The closest I got to this option was going with the thalmor agent beginning from the alternate start mod and just walking right on into the fort.

You couldn't, unless you used mods. It was cut content, likely restored by the Unofficial Patch or something along those lines. Unless it was patched very recently, because it was not an available option for most of the game's existence.
But why would you WANT to do it the peaceful way? The hints were always there, but why would you politely convince the Thalmor to let him go when you can rampage through their fortress, murder them to death, and send their souls to the Cairn to power your enchantments?!
It's cool you have the option to be able to reason with the thalmor but realistically do they really deserve that? Reasoning with the thalmor is basically them going right give up all of your land let us execute all of the people we don't like anyone and everyone we don't like we have full rights to jail and do what we want and you will give up any and all of your beliefs for us and we are superior to you in every way. Like I'll start raising with that when they start realizing that they're actually not all that special. Otherwise I'm just going to show them how worthless they actually was during the Oblivion crisis and how little of a threat they actually are.

If you use the merchant chests bug you are a loser that can't even face challenges in a video game

This is with the UESP Skyrim Bug Patch. Quest is broken in the original game.

You see why having strict protocol is important? Soon as the guard starts slacking, everyone can just walk into Northwatch Keep.

I started a new game recently and deliberately openly assaulted the keep. Being hunted down by a bunch of Justiciars is pretty awesome.

Yes, the Thalmor never leave, you can still do this quest. You can also do it if the empire wins the civil war.
Thalmor is, like bandit, an indenpendent/3rd party faction, they’re there to fill the place but unique for it
