As a dancer myself I find it odd when other dancers say that dance is “in their blood”; it implies that you were born with the skills and therefore undermines all the hours of training you’ve put into getting to where you are!
i think he meant in a genetic sense, he mentioned both his parents were dancers!
I think it also means that driving passion - it's just in you .....
I wish we had the attitude that we do today towards dance when I was younger. I gave up my love of majorettes (which is really a combination of dance / gymnastic moves / flexibility / coordination / sh*t ton of dedication) age 12 because of pressures on how I looked. I was a big girl after being hospitalised aged 8 for 2 weeks, & I was on steroid treatment on & off from that point on which made me put on weight. I was a majorette for 5 years, won 1st prize trophies, & I was heartbroken when I gave it all up after a few bad experiences of doing carnivals & having boys & grown men shouting abuse at me as I danced down the streets. Such an awkward age to hear those comments with regards to body image too.
I’m glad people are taking on board that, it doesn’t matter your size, shape, race, height, ability - everyone can & is entitled to dance.
