I took this and even make mine defrent i start with stick figure. Then after that i start adding forms to it show that anatomy of the figure.then lastly i start with proportion or refined the drawing.
After that i just ad the human body with muscles everything.
For final touches then i do the clothing.
Reason for me to do it is cuase i am building up the character secondly adding muscles first before clothing helps me understand where chest or abs setting or even arm or legs or the feet.

This is very good advice, and I agree that stick figures should be your start but once you start getting better and better, you can draw your characters with good accuracy without needing a blueprint of how it will look or a layout, and just naturally be able to replicate or make your own drawing.
