Hey Coach, great videos. I appreciate that you keep it simple. I'm coaching 7-8 year olds and less is best in teaching them the fundamentals of a new sport.
Same here, I was just asked to help my son's flag football coach. I'm not really too familiar with plays, I'm more of a soccer type of guy. I know the basics of tackle football. Any tips?
@@luisaldana731 Cool..yeah, our league was 8on8 so I had to do some adjusting to plays that I'm familiar with. Like Coach D mentioned--as I'm sure you're already aware with coaching soccer--just be sure to have your practice game plan ready to go. I did get a couple of those agility ladders and would have them set up prior to anyone arriving. Same with setting up the field, I always had all my cones laid out before the rest of the team showed up. I was coaching 5-8 yr-olds so one thing I tried to focus on every practice during warm-ups was getting them to recognize right and left (wasn't as successful as I had hoped!) One drill they really loved was setting up a squared-off area roughly 10yds x 10yds, putting 3-4 players inside, and have them attempt to pull each other players' flags before they get theirs pulled. Anyway, hopefully something in there helps you, but you'll have a blast. Good luck!
I coached my boys 6 on 6 i9 team (10 and 11 year olds) this fall. We went 7-0 and won the championship. Just had our first game of the winter season last Saturday and got our heads handed to us 40-20! Yeah, that's why I'm here. Good stuff!
Ha, been there! Congrats on your season last year!! Coach, we all have more to learn. I look forward to learning from you. What made you and your team so successful last season?
Well, I was at a bit of an advantage. I’d already coached in Atlanta a couple seasons. This was the first season here in Charleston so I knew the ropes a little. I started the season though with a “hurry up” offense. The boys had eight plays memorized and ready to go so we kept the defense on their heels a lot. I also had four defensive schemes set up for blitzing, zone, man, and prevent and I could call out which D and they get in it. We were pretty streamlined compared to the other teams. Last week though our flag pulling was TERRIBLE. Receivers got behind us. We threw into coverages. I didn’t send pressure on the other QB! And, honestly...we just got out played. Hopefully this Saturday is different.
@@CoachD I'll let you know. I've made a lot of changes watching your videos but just know this. If we win I'm taking all the credit. If we lose you're getting all the blame ;-) LOL
@@CoachD The boys were vastly improved this morning, night and day from last week and your videos were a great help! The team we played against had several 13 -14 year olds. We're all 11 and 12 so we went 0-2 today but the final was only 26-32. We gave them a run all day and they knew they'd been in a dog fight! I think we could have pulled the upset but my son sprained his wrist midways of the second half and was out. It is what it is... I think (hope) we're gelling. I believe next week we turn things around get back to the 7-0 team we were before!

@@CoachD cool we are in Southern Arizona. My son is like scores like 95% of his teams Touchdowns. This is the 1st season he is playing his age, he usually plays a year or 2 above his age.
@@CoachD he is having a tough year. He feels he is the whole team. And when he makes a mistake he gets yelled out. They have won only one game this year, and it took him to score 4 TD’s and pull 30 flags. Last Saturday the team got blown out by 4 TD’s. He was constantly tripled team and boxed in. His teammates keep jumping off sides dropping passes or the QB would try to force a ball in when my son wasn’t even close of binging open. He cried all the way home

Hey coach. These videos are great. I'll be coaching for the first time with 1st and 2nd graders. How many plays is a good amount for kids that young? Do I run through all of them at the first practice?
Start with 8 plays in the first practice and see how they do. If they are struggling then stick with 8 for the season and just perfect them. If they get them quickly, then keep adding 8 each week to move up to 24. PK-1st I go with 8, 2nd - 3rd I go with 24, so since you are in between use your discretion based on the team. Hope that helps! Check out my practice schedules and playbooks with specifics for each age group: www.flagfootballwithCoachD.com.
How do you laminate the plays in wristbands? I would like to do that for my football team. I would like each player to have one, so they don’t get confused on what to do.
Hello coach d can you send me the template for practice structure I coach 4,5,6 year old 11 on 11 flag. Also can you send me information on the wrist bands
Of course. The practice schedules come with the Complete Coach Package and the equipment is part of the Complete Coach Kit. You can find both at www.flagfootballwithCoachD.com. Chat me on the site with questions. 🏈🔥
@@CoachD This is my first time coaching flag football. 8-9 year olds. The wrist bands seem to be a good idea. Are they for that age range? And how many plays should I have that age range memorize?
I started using wristbands with my 1st grade team and I had 24 plays in there for 3 formations. They didn’t have to memorize anything. They just knew their color/letter, the route, and what they had to do. It made it easy for them because right before the snap they could look down to boost their confidence and that helped them execute. I still use them with my 6-8th grade team. In my playbooks I give more age-based specific recommendations. I would love to have him on my team! If I can help with anything any time, please let me know.
@@CoachD cool we are in Southern Arizona. My son is like scores like 95% of his teams Touchdowns. This is the 1st season he is playing his age, he usually plays a year or 2 above his age.
Does he enjoy the game? And how is he feeling about this year vs. other seasons?
@@CoachD he is having a tough year. He feels he is the whole team. And when he makes a mistake he gets yelled out. They have won only one game this year, and it took him to score 4 TD’s and pull 30 flags. Last Saturday the team got blown out by 4 TD’s. He was constantly tripled team and boxed in. His teammates keep jumping off sides dropping passes or the QB would try to force a ball in when my son wasn’t even close of binging open. He cried all the way home
I’m sorry to hear that. That has to be tough. What is the coach doing to adjust and build up the team?
Very good video
Thanks Joshua - I appreciate it! It’s an important topic.
First time as a head coach this year...shoot me some of them plays coach.

My name adam McCafferty and my email is sam_millsforever@yahoo.com
Hi Adam, how are you liking the playbook materials?
Thank you! I just bought your entire playbook, and I look forward to having an amazing season. There are a lot of wristbands online, can you remind me the ones you recommend and also do you have a video on importing your templates into the app and printing, laminating?
David - thx for your trust and grabbing the full playbook. Here is where I get my wristbands: Wristbands:
Youth (5-pack): amzn.to/2voTWut
Youth (10-pack): amzn.to/2SAshyx
Adult: (6-pack) amzn.to/2OMUAbY
You will see in the video with the full playbook I walk you through how to customize and print out your plays for the wristbands in the Playmaker App. Please let me know if you have any additional questions as you work through it. 🏈🔥

Super easy process, Emmanuel. I’ll show you how on an upcoming video. In the meantime, here’s an older video…

You can find out more here: www.flagfootballwithcoachd.com/products/ultimate-bundle-plays-wristbands-coach-ds-complete-coach-package-all-playbooks-drill-packs-10-wristbands

Plug and play - why not use what others have learned!? We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. 🏈🔥
Hey coach I love the vids, I have 2 boys that play, 1 is brand new and the other has played on 4-5 teams. They r 9 and 11, and I’ve been asked to help out coaching my oldest, who is also the newest one that’s on his first season! Anyway I would love some of those templates you mentioned for laying out practices, and anything else you can share with me to help out! I played high school ball and pop Warner but never flag football! So im not really sure what drills to do, especially on defense which is what I believe I will be in charge of. So any flag pulling drills or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
