Version 2.0 of this plugin has now been released, which has some pretty big changes from whats shown here. ua-cam.com/video/R0bqnoZ2iH8/v-deo.html Parts of this guide are still relevant, but I suggest watching the update video first and referring back to this one as needed.
Fantastic stuff! Hopefully as XEB+ matures this plugin can become a gold standard. The dream would absolutely be something like this that just kicks right off the HDD ahla freehdboot but with the ease of file copying of this. Might be a pipe dream but we can hope! The PS2 scene is doing fantastic atm so who knows! Brilliant stuff!
It occurred to me while developing this that it might be possible to set up a hard drive with a small FreeHDBoot partition, and have the rest as exFAT, however I can think of several ways that a setup like that would be likely to fail and I don't think I know enough about the technical side of hard drive formatting to be able to effectively troubleshoot it.
I was deeply dreading the purgatory part but it cached the artworks of all of the 186 games I had loaded on my HDD in less than 10 minutes so I guess you mileage may vary..? (btw thank you SO much for your work, this was worth all the time it took to set up, godlike work)
Hello thanks for the work of modding the XEB+, i can't really help you out but you have all my respect and streght to continue this project. I Don't really know why the creatores of XEB didn't release a public version for all people that would be amazing for all people working on the project but anyways, good luck and thanks for everything and thanks for the perfect toturial!!!
@@sync-on-luma but he didn't release before christmas, imagine if he did release like 2016 or 2018 we had 6 years of developement on that beauty xD, and thanks again for your work!!
I was just wishing something like this would pop up like a week or two ago, I couldn't even find an example of how the hell to load neutrino with arguments, and I didn't really want to bother setting up a device to network with a PS2 just to load games when using the HDD was possible. So thank you so much for making this and spending some time polishing it to make it really user friendly!
20:51 XEB+ seems good!, though it lacks the ability to run off the HDD, I have a 50002 PS2 so I can only use the hdd method that it does not support. the usb does make it look laggy in the menu. I think the only way to smooth out the menu is to only use disk art due to the lag of the background. once they fully add HDD as a supported installation method I'll probably give it a go.
i genuinely cant wait for this to work with mx4iso. this is going to make the ps2 more pleasing to use without rebooting the ps2 just to choose any application
Unfortunately not. That's a feature that would mostly likely need to be implemented into XEB+ directly, and AFAIK there are not plans to add it just yet.
Amazing work, this is very intriguing. I would be very interested in a version that can load from the ethernet port using UDPBD, much faster than MX4SIO on the slim
Network loading is theoretically possible, and I have considered it, but I don't have any plans to implement it right away. It's a bit more complicated to get working in terms of both the code and testing environment, so it probably won't happen until I get everything else I want added to this plugin.
Wow this looks amazing. Do you know if it's MemCard Pro 2 compatible? I know they had to put out their own versions of OPL so the card could read the Game ID and was wondering if this just worked right away
I don't know much about the MemCard Pro 2, and it's not supported at the moment. According to the manual, there's a standard protocol the Memcrad Pro 2 uses to get the title ID, but I can't find any info on how that actually works or how to implement it. Based on the brief description I read, I suspect implementing it would require either adding a new driver to XEB+ or adding support to neutrino, both of which are outside the scope of this plugin. That being said, neutrino does have it's own VMC support, which is something I've been looking to adding in the next big update.
Looks great! About the artwork caching taking a long time, seeing as you need to keep the list of files on the USB stick in sync, wouldn’t it be possible to generate that cache on the PC side when updating the games list?
That is something I considered, and might do down the line. The reason I haven't yet is because 1) I want to keep the setup process as free from PC-side utilities as possible (though that's getting harder to do as I continue to add new features), and 2) Doing the caching on the console minimizes the chance of the plugin crashing due to user error during setup.
I don't know specifically, but there's a good chance it might. Go give it a try and add your results to the compatibility list github.com/sync-on-luma/xebplus-neutrino-loader-plugin/wiki/Compatibility-List
Have you test the online/ LAN multiplayer side of those games with that support? Are they working? Especially for private servers/ Xlink Kai setup. And how about Cheats section/ manager? Any GSM support?
Any network functions of games should just work. I do not know if there is a way to load cheats with neutrino, but that's something I will look into to see if it can be included in a future release. There is already a standalone XEB+ plugin to change GSM settings.
Interesting idea for an optimization. The issue I see with it is that the plugin can't rename files on the hard drive, and both file names have to match in order for the loader to work. What I could do is cache the file names to a list, similar to how I handle title IDs, but that would take a lot of reworking code for what would likely amount to a minor reduction in startup time. I'll keep it in mind though, and maybe add it somewhere down the line.
i really needs some help , i have tried all 3 releases and i cannot get the HDD to be seen by the neutrino , I only have 1 game and created the USB hdd.bat and place in the usb's root , but it still cant see the HDD , OPL see's it just fine

XEB+ can only be loaded from a USB drive currently. It might be possible to use FreeHDBoot in place of a memory card based bootloader, if you can get an FHDB partition to peacefully coexist with an exFAT one. I can think of several ways a setup like that could fail though, and I'm not about to try it for myself.
Gonna be that niche guy and ask if this works with the PSX DESR? Yes I know there another person whos release an XMB manager of sorts for it but cannot get that to work worth a mofo! Thanks
You're not the first person to ask about it. To my knowledge, there's no way to get it working with the PSX hard drive, but it may be possible to use the MX4SIO or memory card loaders. I have read one report that XEB+ behaves weirdly on PSX, so your mileage may vary.

If you can boot XEB+ on the PSX, and the hard drive can be formatted to exFAT, and the drive uses the same interface as a normal PS2 HDD, then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

As opposed to 480i? I don't believe that's currently possible.
@sync-on-luma In the opl program, you can select the menu resolution, even set 720p.
Okay, and...?
XEB+ is a completely different application that hasn't even had a full release yet.
Could that caching process be done on a modern pc instead of f the ps2 ahead of time?
Theoretically, yes. But that would both increase reliance on PC-side software and create more room for user error.
Parse the names and then rename them to a known format when creating the disk structure so that you do not need to walk the filenames at load time.
