In Residence: Kelly Wearstler

- The LA property was built in the Georgian Revival style with a barrel-vaulted entry fit for the arrival of any Hollywood luminary. As a designer, Wearstler’s home reflects her artistic practice and finely honed sense of color and shape. Throughout the rooms, visitors can spot goat hair upholstery, graphic runners, bold silhouettes and a treasure trove of artisanal furniture, all enclosed by high-gloss white walls.

So all these negative comments about no tastes and soul.. what you really meant is that you don't see Target or Bed bath and beyond in this home? Sorry, You came to the wrong video.
Exactly
What are you on about? This home looks exactly like it was designed by a Target or Bed Bath and Beyond store manager... When they say no taste or soul, they're talking about a conceptualy point of view that communicates a cohesive and connected visual aesthetic in an interesting or novel way. This is like 11 kmart mother's pinterest boards slammed together in a tasteless mc mansion.
Y’all need to come to Denmark there’s so many collectors out here with crazy pieces and outstanding taste
holland is the creme de la creme with collectors and pieces aaaand prices although in the last year or so prices went up
Y'all... in Denmark??
@no ok When you say here, you're in Denmark too? You guys say y'all??
@@Panthercholo 1. I'm Danish, so yes 2. I'm speaking english.
Incredible home and her taste is impeccable. It might not be everyone’s taste, but Kelly is a true tastemaker and she is not afraid to take risks. I love it all 💥 Haters gon hate 😁
One of the most beautiful homes I’ve ever seen. I also LOVE the way she speaks about the home❤️
I worked in the hospitality design world in L.A. for years & Kelly Wearstler was know as a horrible employer. One of my best friends worked there for a few years & she said it was traumatizing. She treats her employees like slaves, pays barely enough to survive & never pays overtime. She gets young blood that is excited to work for her & then works them to the bone.
I have friends who’ve worked with her and I’ve heard exactly the same thing. Such a disappointment.
thats exactly how she looks i cant stand her
Idk... I don’t feel anything. I agree with the comments it is like a real estate ad for her property. I think she went just a tad too far with the design details, which made it hard for resale. I am not a fan of Emily.. but their were some beautiful shots. All in all idk what it is but I am not meshing with this one guys... 😕 maybe it’s the timing
British author Ian Fleming (1908-1964) was the creator of James Bond ... Americans might have made some movies, but the creator was a British Naval intelligence officer himself !
And he lived in Jamaica.
I was wondering what she was talking about...
The history and beauty is off the charts. Amazing
Pure Perfection all the way around, masterful presentation, color grading to die for :)
This isn't taste, this is money. No soul, no spirit, no cohesion, as close as it gets to authenticity is the open pane framing the giant arm of the fig tree at 2:19.
Agree...though I liked the circular ceiling light shot. 😊
Yes, I think you described the woman perfectly.
she prepared intensely for this video...what an achievement
this is truly stunning :D
more IN RESIDENCE PLEASEEE
wow, what a magical place!
Speechless, this is beautiful
Beautiful home.
Will personally bake cupcakes for whoever can direct me to more info about those tube-ey wall sconces at 1:07 😘
Anyone know where I can source those wall sconces are at the 1:08 mark?
Could have done without the dramatic background music interfering and annoyingly loud
AH-MAAZING
Wow, tough crowd here. I think it's beautiful!
Lol so true. I loved the house. People can be desperate to see some vulnerability on screen but it's always upto the person on screen. And having a place in LA often means they're gonna move on for sake of a better price.
Thank you!! and unfortunately I'm not Kelly but I have to agree ;)
Tough crowd indeed. The neutral colors and the flow of natural light seem to be well composed. -Architect here )
Me too! I was in awe the whole time I was watching this. What a beautiful home... no one can do it like Kelly does. People are just jealous ;)
It's absolutely gorgeous. The negative comments are from people with homey sayings painted on their walls.
There’s something off about this place, absolutely beautiful building and windows (and bathroom!) but seems to be a layer of something missing. It seems to be more of an on-trend instagrammable home that won’t age well, vs. one with substance and being thought out with life, layers and creativity in mind. I’m not familiar with the homeowner, might be instagram famous? Everything is subjective and as long as the family are happy in their space - I can only voice my opinion
It is so beautiful. Nearly too perfect if it makes sense. Everything is so balanced and geometric and measured.... But it is STUNNING!
It feels like you're in LA? ...Maybe that's because you are?
Please don't feature anyone this vapid again. She has to talk about the previous owners because she has nothing to offer. Pretentious in every way. Every other video in this series has been about someone with substance and a point of view of their own. You should have interviewed the previous owners. Maybe, just delete this one as to not diminish the value of the series or give it to AD.
last days Haterz gonna hate.
Nowness is my favorite channel to disconnect from reality, the magic in each video is individual and beautiful
That is truly a magnificent property, I love the floors and the huge windows and the yard.
It is surprising to see Kelly freaking Wearstler's own home is so muted and minimal. Her signature style we see in her clients' homes are usually super bold with a very maximalist sensibility.
However, she went with a cleaner palette for her own home to take a break from all the boldness that she is expected, while respecting the character of the classic architecture.
The bathroom is where we see her play! That stone work is incredible.
Hi, just a small correction in your comment that this house was not minimal. A minimal design is where we see least number of lines, joints or connections. This is more of a balanced space. I believe later the post owner must have replaced some of the furniture or decor items as per his/her taste ( 'bold' as you mentioned ).
The house is not fully decorated yet. It was displayed for publishing purposes
It is now, but she changes it v often in a lot of her publications she has this house but it filled with huge bold colours. Being the designer she is swaps it around depending on how she feels. Also at the time she was putting the house on the market so she needs to target a broader market. Lucky enough TOM FORD purchased this beautiful home. Let’s hope he changes the driveway tho. 😂
Depressing. The architecture has so much potential, as well as the landscaping... It looks like she was trying her hand at minimalism, but ended up on the boring side. The modern furniture pieces feel so out of context that they look like she brought them from her previous place. This doesn't feel like a home at all. It's more like a sanatorium with random art pieces scattered around.
The video itself, it's gorgeous. The photography the architecture and the song. But the speech doesn't match too much.
You can tell that the presenter is shallow and dumb af. :)
Googled it! Turned out, shewad graduate from Arts and design school and owns lifestyle brand and interior designer shop. Go figure !!
Her accent completely distract me from the intention of the video and not in a good way
"The combination of the cypress trees and the palm trees makes you feels like you're in Europe or LA." Wow, that's incredible, a place in LA makes you feel like you're in LA!
omg haha I was thinking the same thing
Hahahahahaa xD it was her intention lol
Looollll
She meant quintessential LA landscape, unobstructed, which LA houses don't necessarily have.
nobody lives in this house
Or they do, but they also have like 4 immigrants doing their laundry, cooking, cleaning, garden 24/7...
Is there anyone in LA describing a house that doesn't use the "bringing the outside in" expression?
Neutra was very influential
Hahaha, I always ask myself the same question...as well as the rare Design pieces everybody seems to find at a flea market in Paris...
on the fence with some of the furniture choices. but my what a home..
Her delivery is very flat. You don't feel the same passion for the space that most of the other owners have. Its probably because they're in LA, it feels like the house to her is more of a status thing than a home that's an extension of herself.
Joseph Delgadillo you watch too many house remodeling shows where they tell the home owners to really be over expressive.
I love it, it doesn't have any tacky trendy bullshit that just distracts, i enjoy the architecture and the overall open feeling, it's like an oasis in LA. An introvert dream also.
@@ec8927 You can really see how she has no deep, abstract and personal conection to space. It's really a Status Symbol when you analyse it under architectural and sociological viewpoints. But yeah.. we see how people get shallow and easyly fascinated when money fools as something different. Some meaningful, personal dimension beyond the ideals of society. And she lacks that.. but also her home. Thats a scientific fact from achitectural sociology but when one is sensible for art he can also understand it.
@@Chamametschi You are trying way to hard...
What? She's not a cheerleader
It’s not a dream, you’re just rich af.
no. you aint getting the vibe. this aint kim.
agreed. i hate when rich ppl say its a dream. it's a privilege.
Stfu all of you ..you are jealous af she is a successful woman and earned it with her hard work and passion for interior design..and you all are just bunch of losers ..and where is the problem if she is rich and living the dream ..? .wouldn't you do the same if you all were rich
I understand that people have different tastes, but this home lacks even the tiniest bit of personality. It's unfortunate, because I looked up the home and it looks like it used to have some, but was all removed and replaced with the most generic of contemporary looks. It has to be one of the most boring homes from the entire 'In Residence' series. Usually with these you can get a good sense of who the owner is by their home, or at the very least some areas of it, but I get nothing here.
this looks like her, her style in general is very sculpturish, everything ornate and structurally clean yet funky
She is the one that defines the contemporary looks that you talk about.
It’s not a secret that she and her husband have been trying to sell this property for some time now. She really went all out with the decor as shown in her book “Hue”. However, to sell a home it has to look more restrained as the buyer doesn’t want to feel like he or she has to put in a ton of work adjusting it to his or her taste.
@Dapur Masak Lista oh I would like so know. Can indentify with his words
You can really see how she has no deep, abstract and personal conection to space. It's really a Status Symbol when you analyse it under historical, botanical, architectural and sociological viewpoints. But yeah.. we see how people get shallow and easyly fascinated when money fools as something different. But it lacks the meaningful, personal dimension beyond the ideals and implementations of society. And she lacks that too..
For the first time I feel the owner doesn’t fit in her own home. Just look like a newly finished project for one of her client. Look at the house, you know it’s no her. Even her voice doesn’t match the music. I love the outside so much.
that's crazy cause i thought it really fit her sense of style. in what ways did you feel it doesn't match her voice?
@@thisBLUEsweater Perhaps stereo typing - I think she loved that it was a bond house full of history.
She's very fake. Have you seen her 'Masterclass'? So annoying.
Chilly symmetry...a museum more than a home in my opinion.
The music and emptiness of home makes it a horror short film 😜
lmao
I agree with the naysayers. I'm into modern, but this just feels like she brought in huber modern objects and furniture and did sparse placement like in a museum, not like a home. Most of the pieces I like individually, but no cohesive feel. That's the issue I have with her design style- her spaces feel like weird, random collection of expensive objects- museum, not homes. She's over rated.
that's crazy. i feel like she's under rated. i never even heard about this home till now. it truly does feel like an anomaly in LA to me. absolutely perfect in every way possible imo.
I don’t like how she talks in questions? I find it kind of distracting? I guess it’s just a habit? Anyway, nice house?
Andrew Ritchie ?
Common LA accent. I live here. It's pretty annoying.
Agreed. I'm from California originally. Though it's been over 25 years since I've lived there, my accent comes out every once in a while. Usually when I'm not being very present. :/
My goodness.......... What vulgar taste that woman has.
hollywood money, not really taste or lifestyle
Makes me want to eat the rich especially now
facts
I don’t care when some uber rich person lives in some multi-million dollar bourgeois home, but when they start opening their mouth about economic disparity (and they usually do), I want to vomit.
Why do you want to eat the rich?
bon appetit!
nathanjs55 you are the vomit tho lul
yeahhh, this is a no for me
And film "Hunger games" becomes a reality. ...1% live like this,other.... well, you know ...work hard and die
This does not feel homely.. and btw dream are for the ones who are watching this not you...you are rich af
Something is off with this place. She keeps saying how it’s so busy and there are always people there and things going on but I feel like this house has no soul.
This isn't a home, there's absolutely nothing warm about it, no signs of life.
There’s something sterile about this place...
I was just thinking "sterile" when I read this comment. Everything is so pristine and perfect and meticulous that any semblance of a lived-in home is gone. For the record, I think it's beautiful as a museum piece.
@Wenceslao Futanaki jealous much ? Lmao
@Wenceslao Futanaki people are you just really funny bwahahaha
1. This is a youtube comment section, you could basically claimed that you are the richest and most talented person. But we wont buy it.
2. Calling other people house fake and shitty ? no soul ? Do you even know them personally ? The no soul here is YOU, you lack manners and basic knowledge.
@Wenceslao Futanaki duh, pathetic. Its so funny.
If only your father had been
I really like the large intestine full of pooh mirror.
Got some end of the world vibes. Like all humanness disappeared and all that was left is this empty shell of a house.
That's Los Angeles.
Oh how I wish 🙄 it's an extrovert's nightmare, but an introvert's paradise. Open, empty of obnoxious people, perfect.
very interesting documentary, I like the color of the film. it is a journey through time.
Would love to see the house when the Broccoli had it
Great except for that vomit-inducing tile floor that looks like it's buckling. Love the landscaping the most.
Tutorial : How to say nice things with a horrible voice.
Factual error: James Bond was created by Ian Fleming. This is public/historical knowledge.
(( does she have on pants? Asking for a friend ... ))
Nice house, ugly furniture.
You can always count on Hollywood to kill the authentic vibe of nowness. Beautiful house but definitely loads of LA crap in this video.
Don't blame the city for this.
Becoming an interior designer while being married to really rich building contractor. Younger generations and especially women will make their careers differently. Without the money being given by marriage and with a true artistic vision. Not selling pattern, structure and "taste" to an upper class but as true artists for everybody. We are in 2021 now.
Nicely shot. Subtle movements, very nicely shot.. the dog was a great touch too.
The voice looks exactly like Kim K. Literally thought they would show up during the video
Valley accent
Just like kardashian, it is bought n curated, no soul..nah
It would have been nice to see the lived in side of the house, with the dogs and kids etc.
There's not even a book, or a blanket or any sign of human life
Looks incredibly lonely
Wow stunning and it looks like a lot of the pieces in the house slot in nicely and seem to be in keeping with the era of the house; but it's as if it's not been done intentionally; it's just her taste/style!
they might want to get tested for covid-19... i heard that lack of taste is a symptom
Nice house, shame about the contents.
This is so much nicer than all the trendy developer contemporary homes I see in videos. I love this home. 3.5 acres with beautiful landscaping is amazing.
Absolutely gorgeous have so many pics of this home saved on my computer love that it’s changed so much. Only thing I think the black tarmac driveway needs to be white granite cobble stone 😂
Please let me see this pics.
This is such a beautifully made video. From the music to her narration. It’s so meditative.
The outside is amazing!
if you compare her workspace to her home is very different, it is evident that she finds solace and rest in her vast and quiet home that is filled with light, nature inviting itself in an orderly manner to convey a sense of peace and tranquility which is a big mental break from so much visual stimuli she gets while at work from all the various colors textures and design concepts that she has to develop. I think she is clever at creating a space to charge her batteries and gain inspiration again and again. I think its marvelous she can enjoy this luxurious home, it only makes perfect sense to make it her own.
Maybe if you live in a ‘cold’ environment you actually NEED 7 dogs to feel comfortable. 🐩 🐕 🐶🐕🐕🐶🐩
Feel sorry for the dog.... soulless house and phoney owner with annoying Kardashian vocal fry ..... nobody lives in that house it’s a cold showroom museum
The house and grounds are stunning. Her voice is nails on a chalkboard.
This is nowhere near the artistic expression of now so I will sign out............
I think a person loses a lot of perspective when they're inhabiting a place like this. You'd have to lie to yourself every day, telling yourself that deserve to be there while thousands close by are living in filthy tents on the street. How about that spirit and design?
What a dumb thing to say - the people mentioned by this presenter certainly did not create the fictional character James Bond!!
It's evident from her body position and the way she talks about the space that she doesn't belong in that house - it's not her home.
You can feel someone is on their own piece of land by the way they fit in the space: the way she sits on the couch, or arranges that little thing at one point, is speaking volumes - she is just a guest there.
Laetitia Lilly I think she made this house for PR and sell in 2 years😉
@@psy3621 Well that makes sense 😊
Not everyone gets attached to things
1:01 why is her couch so low??
why do I think of Sweet Life by Frank Ocean so much when I was watching this video
Apparently she saved the best for herself. Her clients’ residences aren’t nearly as good.
Makes me feel lonely.
I have no words for her house and the video in general... just wow
Came for the music. Who's the artist?
David D. Oquendo music by thomie called untitled. Thomie.bandcamp.com
ua-cam.com/video/oxouP5BQPeM/v-deo.html
Fabulous! Just the right balance of modern and vintage. KW usually does a lot of bold color and graphic designs. I am happy she was very subtle and practiced minimalism in this home.
I think this house is pretty. Normally I dont like modern but I think this cozy in a sense. I also love how simple yet interesting some of the pieces are. I think its beautifully done.
Her remarks in talking about her Masterclass say if you live without color, you live without love. There is a lack of color, warmth and personality in the house. It's like a museum. The yard and trees are lovely.
I think it's ugly. It's big and gives a feeling of emptiness.
The designers , who design for other people seem to craftily end up with even more lavish houses themselves....
Ian Lancaster Fleming was the creator of James Bond. A British Author.
Albert "cubby" Broccoli was the producer of all the Bond films up until his death 1996 when his daughter continued the legacy, so they are the creators of the movies....
Movie” THE HIGH NOTE”!! Grace’ house!!
Such a gorgeous house….STUNNING❤❤❤❤
This is A PALACE! Very spirited. Love.
Dors somebody know what are the big trees just next to house
I am falling in love with everything I see here
lmao, you can see the the video editor cranking up the sepia in an effort to draw emotion from the user that neither the house nor her story can
😂😂
