  • The LA property was built in the Georgian Revival style with a barrel-vaulted entry fit for the arrival of any Hollywood luminary. As a designer, Wearstler’s home reflects her artistic practice and finely honed sense of color and shape. Throughout the rooms, visitors can spot goat hair upholstery, graphic runners, bold silhouettes and a treasure trove of artisanal furniture, all enclosed by high-gloss white walls.

So all these negative comments about no tastes and soul.. what you really meant is that you don't see Target or Bed bath and beyond in this home? Sorry, You came to the wrong video.

What are you on about? This home looks exactly like it was designed by a Target or Bed Bath and Beyond store manager... When they say no taste or soul, they're talking about a conceptualy point of view that communicates a cohesive and connected visual aesthetic in an interesting or novel way. This is like 11 kmart mother's pinterest boards slammed together in a tasteless mc mansion.

I worked in the hospitality design world in L.A. for years & Kelly Wearstler was know as a horrible employer. One of my best friends worked there for a few years & she said it was traumatizing. She treats her employees like slaves, pays barely enough to survive & never pays overtime. She gets young blood that is excited to work for her & then works them to the bone.

Idk... I don’t feel anything. I agree with the comments it is like a real estate ad for her property. I think she went just a tad too far with the design details, which made it hard for resale. I am not a fan of Emily.. but their were some beautiful shots. All in all idk what it is but I am not meshing with this one guys... 😕 maybe it’s the timing

There’s something off about this place, absolutely beautiful building and windows (and bathroom!) but seems to be a layer of something missing. It seems to be more of an on-trend instagrammable home that won’t age well, vs. one with substance and being thought out with life, layers and creativity in mind. I’m not familiar with the homeowner, might be instagram famous? Everything is subjective and as long as the family are happy in their space - I can only voice my opinion

It is surprising to see Kelly freaking Wearstler's own home is so muted and minimal. Her signature style we see in her clients' homes are usually super bold with a very maximalist sensibility.
However, she went with a cleaner palette for her own home to take a break from all the boldness that she is expected, while respecting the character of the classic architecture.
The bathroom is where we see her play! That stone work is incredible.

    • @MadhurChugh-xl6rj
      @MadhurChugh-xl6rj 4 роки тому +5

Hi, just a small correction in your comment that this house was not minimal. A minimal design is where we see least number of lines, joints or connections. This is more of a balanced space. I believe later the post owner must have replaced some of the furniture or decor items as per his/her taste ( 'bold' as you mentioned ).

It is now, but she changes it v often in a lot of her publications she has this house but it filled with huge bold colours. Being the designer she is swaps it around depending on how she feels. Also at the time she was putting the house on the market so she needs to target a broader market. Lucky enough TOM FORD purchased this beautiful home. Let’s hope he changes the driveway tho. 😂

  • @DarlyFofa

Depressing. The architecture has so much potential, as well as the landscaping... It looks like she was trying her hand at minimalism, but ended up on the boring side. The modern furniture pieces feel so out of context that they look like she brought them from her previous place. This doesn't feel like a home at all. It's more like a sanatorium with random art pieces scattered around.

I understand that people have different tastes, but this home lacks even the tiniest bit of personality. It's unfortunate, because I looked up the home and it looks like it used to have some, but was all removed and replaced with the most generic of contemporary looks. It has to be one of the most boring homes from the entire 'In Residence' series. Usually with these you can get a good sense of who the owner is by their home, or at the very least some areas of it, but I get nothing here.

It’s not a secret that she and her husband have been trying to sell this property for some time now. She really went all out with the decor as shown in her book “Hue”. However, to sell a home it has to look more restrained as the buyer doesn’t want to feel like he or she has to put in a ton of work adjusting it to his or her taste.

Becoming an interior designer while being married to really rich building contractor. Younger generations and especially women will make their careers differently. Without the money being given by marriage and with a true artistic vision. Not selling pattern, structure and "taste" to an upper class but as true artists for everybody. We are in 2021 now.

Wow stunning and it looks like a lot of the pieces in the house slot in nicely and seem to be in keeping with the era of the house; but it's as if it's not been done intentionally; it's just her taste/style!

if you compare her workspace to her home is very different, it is evident that she finds solace and rest in her vast and quiet home that is filled with light, nature inviting itself in an orderly manner to convey a sense of peace and tranquility which is a big mental break from so much visual stimuli she gets while at work from all the various colors textures and design concepts that she has to develop. I think she is clever at creating a space to charge her batteries and gain inspiration again and again. I think its marvelous she can enjoy this luxurious home, it only makes perfect sense to make it her own.

I think a person loses a lot of perspective when they're inhabiting a place like this. You'd have to lie to yourself every day, telling yourself that deserve to be there while thousands close by are living in filthy tents on the street. How about that spirit and design?

It's evident from her body position and the way she talks about the space that she doesn't belong in that house - it's not her home.
You can feel someone is on their own piece of land by the way they fit in the space: the way she sits on the couch, or arranges that little thing at one point, is speaking volumes - she is just a guest there.

Her remarks in talking about her Masterclass say if you live without color, you live without love. There is a lack of color, warmth and personality in the house. It's like a museum. The yard and trees are lovely.
