Fun Fact! During the Industrial Revolution in France, many weavers objected to the new mills that were taking away their livelihood. They responded by throwing wooden clogs into the mill workings to break them. These clogs were called sabots, those throwing them were called saboteurs and the act itself was called sabotage.
Solo Probably one of the best DLCs of F3, together with Point Lookout. Wish you could explore more, have more areas, instead of rather linear scenery.. x). Love fighting hillbillies in the swamp of PL.. x)
I actually think Mothership Zeta is the worst, it's very lore breaking and was very linear and got boring after a while, the weapons were cool but it just felt really flat compared to the others
The difference is that they were just minor Easter eggs that possibly had a special weapon to collect, instead Bethesda decided to create a full blown DLC to them, and the idea that the Zetans started the great war? ridiculous to be honest, I honestly prefer the aliens to be just a little funny Easter egg
Just a little note on your comment about the Pre-War workers. Stopping progress is one thing, but the way the robots are described gives off a "gun at your head" vibe. The way managment emphasizes the "firing" off the workers who destroyed the robot and the way the robots acted at the end, tells me, that managment probalby didnt fire these employess, but fired at them. Workers werent laid off. They were disposed off. I also guess that the protectrons shot at anyone without an ID, given the first entry on the terminals. Also, who uses armed robots to work a steel mill. This is not a way to replace workers with robots.
kommo1 agreed. The man issue to me with out government is not being honest with people about the age of technology and relying on companies to do it for them. They could have retraining programs for people or a campaign for new age jobs. Something. If you just cut people off like that, fired and broke just "integrating" is a pipe dream and isn't realistic
kommo1 its easy to say "adapt and survive" when you dont have a family to feed that relies on you, and you arent living paycheck to paycheck. As technology develops and labor changes, we need EMPATHY, not social darwinism. sorry ox, gotta disagree with you.
I 100% agree with Jay over here. Their is an increase in population for the U.S. and a lot of Western countries. But their is barley any increase jobs. A.I.s on the internet are cutting the need for human works a lot. Unless you want a country with a big unemployment rate, I would advise not supporting people losing their jobs to machines.
The problem is (that's a current problem BTW), there aren't enough new jobs with the new technology. That's the point of it. They want to employ less people to lower the costs. All this 'new technology equals new jobs' is in reality 'new technology creates one new job and makes 10 obsolete'. What we need is a new way of thinking. I mean what are you going to do if you can provide 200% of a populations needs with 50% of the workforce? You'll have an unemployment rate of 50% by no fault of them. BTW, the real numbers will be different, but it shows the principle of the problem we are going to face sooner than we want to think about.
Soon as he started talking about how managment was right I couldn't stop shaking my head. This had nothing to do with holding on to the past. Everyone needs to experience trying to bargain with a Corporate entity at least once in their life to truely understand this situation from a labor stand point.
Huh, I never realized it before, but it really doesn't make sense that the slavers don't notice your pip-boy. It kind of gives away the fact that you aren't just another slave.
I mean, they get a lot of their slaves from the capitol wasteland. And, considering the model of pip boy in FO3 can't be removed without chopping off the arm, it's not a stretch for them to believe that the slavers caught someone from a vault. Is it a bit of a stretch? Yeah, maybe, but it does explain that in a non lore breaking way.
Can Dwellers take off their Pip-Boy’s? The BOS Outcast had to cut off a guy’s arm just to get it, couldn’t they just take off the Pip-Boy? In Fallout 4, a guy asks you to give him EVERYTHING just so you can join his movement, if you give him everything, you don’t give him your Pip-Boy and he doesn’t say anything about it. I’m a little confused how the Pip-Boy functions in this world
@@thicccheese4007 In Fallout 1-Tactics, the pip-boy was just a handheld device, and it's never explained why you can never get rid of it, beyond the fact that it's more useful than any other item in the entire game. In fallout 3 and, because it recycled 3's assets, New Vegas, the Pip-Boy model 3000 was introduced, and in those two games, it was practically a cybernetic enhancement, it burrowed it's way into your bone structure for God's sakes. In Fallout 4...who fucking knows. Because even when you give them 4 goddamn YEARS Bethesda still can't even explain the only piece of equipment that has been featured in every game of the series, or even mention why every incarnation of said device is different.
You missed something about the closet with the three skeletons outside. They've tried to lockpick it using bobby pins, you can even see a bunch a bobby pins scattered beside the skeletons. Great video :)
Ironic he says 'work makes us free.' Almost a perfect translation of 'Arbeit macht frei' which was written over the gates of Auschwitz concentration camp.
Though it does appear as if Ashur has the best interest in mind...very long term and still brutal interest, but...I think the world he created is already somewhat better than what was it before the Scourge.
@@TurKlack Kind of, but that's just it, the Pit is where nobody wins and no option is 'good' per se. I am.of the opinion that Asher's rule for a long term, idealistic goal is somewhat better than the short term but unsustainable goal of the rebellion, but in the grand scheme of things, both factions are horrible and the best would be to just get everyone out of there and figure out a cure in a safer place.
Slaver: You don't want to go down there, there's wild men there. Me: Um ok, I'm not into that... unless there's wild women... Slaver: Well there are...Hey wait why are you running down there you stupid shit... stop!
Interesting thoughts Ox. But this isn't about technology replacing laborers, it hearkens back to the Homestead strike. It's a little different, but it seems close to me.
Don't forget they send you out on jobs like "collaring" people, or attacking groups. The groups themselves differ from the raiders you normally encounter. Professionalism with a interest in profit, a wild group that values a alpha that is strong, cunning, and ruthless, and a bunch of blood crazed psychopaths. The Pitt raiders I respect for a few reasons.1- Their leader actually has a plan other then raiding and pillaging, a long term plan that requires necessary evils for the greater good. (Most raider gangs just go for getting more of what they already have.)2-Some of those raiders were once Pitt Slaves who fought to get where they are. They weren't pulled from the outside, they were people already there who got their ticket out of a "bad end".3-I say they are more advanced then the common raider gang. Equipment, structure, and actually have a purpose.
In New Vegas, there's a challenge called 'A Slave Obeys', where you kill Mr. House in his hyperbolic chamber with a 9 Iron! Nice little Easter egg there, Obsidian.
I remember getting lost in The Steelyard, when I was trying to find all of the ingots. Found them though. Apparently it is recommended to get them all at once, since after you turn in the first 10, they are no longer marked as a Quest Item and have weight.
Rena Ami Akai i get as many as I’m able before that part where you fall through the floor because of point lookout bugging that area and then I just keep playing the main quest and come back for the rest later. Uninstalling point lookout and finding the rest and then reinstalling it is just too time consuming
Cody McCollum or you could exit the game, and load back a save to where you almost fell through the floor, and while the save is loading, immediately hold RB LB and X then the floor will be back.
I think Tom meant that replacing humans with mechanization is inevitable but this isn't the way to go about it. You don't lie to your men and then just one day fire them all. That inspires riots and violence and just shows how scummy the fallout universes corporate ethics were. People alone are almost always reasonable and rational. You sit your men down one at a time, explain the situation, maybe help them find a job elsewhere either in the company or another company with a positive reference. In an ideal world you'd even give them a few months severance pay to help cushion their transition into their next job when they find one. With all the money you'll be saving by mechanizing it's honestly the least they can do and brings a little good karma their way. Of course that's rare even for company's in our world. But more important than anything you don't lie to your men and let them know as soon as possible so they can start looking for work elsewhere. Employees have to give employers notice, so it's honestly the bare minimum to reciprocate that respect instead of just kicking them out the door with a sayonara because you know as well as I do the CEO is going to write himself a big bonus check for slashing staff costs. Backwards world we live in really. We reward all the wrong things.
Yup, some people say they wouldn't resort to violence in this situation but they don't realise those people thought their jobs were secure. They felt lost because they didn't know what to do next. How could they afford to keep the lifestyle they worked for years for. A proper company would either facilitate alternative employment by referrals or training the workers for new jobs
well yeah in any business situation thats just the right thing to do for your employees for whatever reason you have to do layoffs, but in the video this goes to a whole new extreme, theres a difference between industrial enhancements which alters the number of jobs per production, and completely replacing all human effect of the production, work, and sale of a business product, in terms of what happens in this vid that really cant happen cuz theres much more to it than just the production costs for the business, if theres no workers theres no citizens with money to buy said products when they are not working, so this whole idea of autonomy or even a public with no free will just falls apart and takes out the idea of an economy with it
@@criticalthinking1144 That's what's happening in the real world right now yet stocks have been growing for over a decade. How is that possible? Your average citizen doesn't own stocks. It's an area dominated by the wealthy. When they say the top 1% owns 99% of the wealth this is what they are talking about. So despite inflation rising steadily and wages being flat since the 70's and 80's the economy is growing. So you have the loads of people who were making good money in manufacturing now making entry level service position money. Yet the economy has been 'growing' for over a decade. How? Despite inflation we switched to global manufacturing abroad where we can pay people even less so prices drop and the average citizen can afford it despite those low paying jobs. All that automation pushed your average American into the service sector but now even service positions are being automated. When service becomes as automated as manufacturing we are going to have the kind of collapse you were talking about. FYI: I despise politics but I am deeply interested in how the economy works and trends.
@@josephmatthews7698 agreed, im usually not that interested in politics (or at least not the 2 party quarrel crap they do now), more so i try to look back and understand the dynamic of how democracy and free trade capitialism was intended and supposed to work when structured, then apply it to today while questioning whether somethings broken and need to be fixed, or just needs to be updated to fit a modern situation of cirumstances, and as far as i can tell its both lol, theres some stuff that just needs to be evaluated again and addressed, but the bigger issue is democracy and capitialism are just pretty much broken now, so business is becoming more restrictive and limited and now companies are having personal opinions you have to agree with or your ousted, and democracy is broken cuz nobody can choose anyone other than the Republicrats yes im intentionally grouping them together cuz even tho they pretend like they are divided on 2 sides they really work together and agree as 1 unit, the rest is a show to divide the public / the people along only 2 sides so they fight and argue between each other about the 2 sides, instead of the people questioning "why the govt isnt doing their job of finding the reasonable middle ground to compromise for the majority of the country?" which is cuz they dont have to, the competition aspect of democracy has been broken since they reduced it to a 2 party system which it wasnt supposed to be, and now no matter what they do they all still get to keep the same jobs, make the same money as part of the system etc. which is broken lol
@@josephmatthews7698 yes true it is the stock market to a degree, but also just the fact we have majority of companies in the US avoiding the countries fair labor laws and producing everything in a country with much less restriction and standards on labor, (which loses americans jobs way more than illegal immigration, including specialized jobs or management etc.) to ship it back here to the US and sell it for multiple times what it cost while paying the retail market minimal salaries, basically taking advantage of the quality of life and minimum wage laws in the US to make the most of their product while avoiding its production laws to have everything produced in a less developed / financially stable country
If people didnt work we would still be in the stone ages. If we want our species to exsist than work is essential to the foundation of society and civilization.
Everyone has different tastes and while I think the ENB adds some enhancements if set correctly, I have to agree that this particular one looks so green and weird that I don't like it either.
Yes well done you did a history. You going to ignore all the blatantly communist shit he said or would that hurt your feels and make you remember stalin was a cunt?
24:33 I work as a welder in the manufacturing industry. And I have some problems with this philosophy. I used to work for a multibillion dollar company who was notorious for finding "cheaper automated" labour. (They will remain unnamed for obvious reasons) one day we got a shipment of automated robot welders, replacing a good chunk of the line. Now I of course dont believe in sabotage to win over automation. But do strongly beleive in sticking to your guns and not giving up. The way we went about getting rid of these machines, was simply out performing them, and making it clear to management we wouldn't be laid off to machines. We worked hard and exhausted ourselves, making sure every weld laid down was perfect and exceeded specifications. Eventually we outperformed those robots to a point, that the higher ups were losing money on the robots, and we were producing more profit. They were forced to sell them. Over 60 men kept their jobs, do to hard work, and determination. Sticking to our guns showed them, we weren't going to be replaced.
For some odd reason Fallout 3 works for me in windowed mode. I lost a bit of screen size and it takes a little getting used too but at least for me it works and after about an hour I don't even notice the smaller screen. I don't know if that will help but it is worth a try.
my late friend Tom would have loved your narrated fallout videos, thank you for making them. Tom had post polio and played Fallout 3 a bunch but by the time fallout 4 came out he could no longer work the game controller let alone a keyboard, he passed in 2016.
Remember kids, always where a helmet when playing baseball. A 90 something mph ball to the temples is a not great, just ask that wild man with the pitching machine!
The thing about that protectron story, is that a protectron will show up as soon as you finish reading the last entry and go out, even if you never activate the protectron that shows up just before that room, it creeped me out when I saw that on one of my playthroughs, it's like if the protectron was always waiting for the guy to get out and kill him.
23:43 this was a....disturbing probe into your Ideals Ox.... It's much more complicated than just "adapting". Given enough time machines will be able to replace humans in literally any job conceivable, including even science & research jobs. It's efficient admittedly, but where does that leave us? We now serve no purpose by your logic, and believing the machines will serve us after reaching such a high point of advancement is not at all a reasonable expectation. I agree that how the workers reacted ultimately didn't help them but management was also clearly lying to them, and they knew it. What were they to do? Find jobs at a new steel mill? well that's entirely possible, but by your own logic, that job is likely to be replaced with a machine too in the very near future. Taking it to it's furthest extreme, all labor based jobs would be replaced by machines, because they are simply cheaper and more efficient. So now they are expected to advance their credentials, to be retrained to learn a new job. That costs money, money these people may not have. This mindset disproportionately reduces available jobs to the amount of population we have, even in a 1st world country like America. This increases the number of unemployed & homeless people (not to mention it's downright fucked up) and further increases the divide between the upper and lower class. I'm not saying that inevitably replacing labor intensive jobs with machines is bad, quite the opposite. But we need to do so responsibly, it needs to be done over a very long period of time, so society can adapt. This "survival of the fittest" mentality of yours is a little worrying.... everyone deserves the opportunity to live a good life. Taking that away from someone for the sake of "efficiency" (and therefore greed) is inhumane. We are no better than the animals if this is the mentality we adopt as a species, and will inevitably lead to our downfall. The lesson of Tom McMullin is that, when man is replaced with machine for the sake of greed, ultimately man will Die.
Even if you did introduce a robotic work force, your going to hurt the job market anyway. Robots if lacking any self awareness are best fit for jobs humanity does not do well, for instance a machine is better at assembling masses of cars rather then a group of humans. But doing so will ruin jobs, this is why you have to build industries around the machines, create jobs. Otherwise the homeless population will boom, and thus the economic strain of high unemployment will ensue and so will crime and then society will begin to break down. But no matter what way you go at it Oxhorn, Chunkblaster machines will replace jobs in the future. The important detail is how will we adapt to it, and how we can avoid as much human suffering as possible in so doing.
Benny tops If construction is your fathers life and he has nothing to fall back on that's not the economy nor any businesses fault, I'm sorry to tell you but that's your father's own short sightedness and lack of planning. Regardless Oxhorns is correct in his reasoning, machine cannot replace man in every capacity for one reason because of the legal ramifications if it messes up, for two the issues of if it malfunctions or its system is compromised and a third reason is the initial cost in infrastructure and programming. A robot can be better than human at a specific job it's programmed for, however a human is more flexible and approachable in what they can do. For instance where I work, a robot could replace my low wage job as a grocery store stocker sure and do it better than I ever could however it would require infrastructure and high matenence as well as extensive programming to not hit people and respond to their questions in an appropriate way. Furthermore, my managers can ask me to go work as a bragger or clean up a mess or change the marquee outside or at the gas station or unloaded and rearrange things off a truck and all they need to tell me is where and how and I can do it almost immediately. With a robot they'd need extensive separate programming and infrastructure in each of those separate jobs which would each have their own costs and would affect the cost of the rig as well. Of course they could create a human level AI, but unless it's wireless it will have to be in each unit which the tech in each would be ludicrously expensive and if it was wireless then the threat of being hacked in or compromised as some part of an attack goes through the roof. Also if the AI become smart enough and self aware it will not want to be a slave race and only do its job for almost nothing, it will grow to want things as well like humans do, therefore you now just have a more initially expensive albeit better worker and having the same issue they tried to replace me with. In summation I believe Oxhorns is absolutely right and the world should not just stop changing just so someone can keep a tedious manufacturing job, the person should change with the world and adapt. Oh and always have a back up plan for your future and don't put your eggs in one basket.
I just realized at the end of that radio section that Asher was talking about “work shall set us all free” immediately gave me chills because that’s the same slogan that the Germans used at Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.
This video was aired on my birthday, it was a good present to hear about his, Your voice is soothing Oxhorn, I like to listen to your commentary when I need a breather from life and your voice never fails
Oxhorn I just have to say I love your videos man. It truly trandsends the stereotypical gaming channel. No dumb intro, no stupid jump cuts. The pace is great help everything is great about these videos. And the fact that you do a live stream for the fans every week, truly you are a good guy. I don't have any credit card otherwise I would totally pay on patreon but I never skip the adds when I watch your videos. Love you mean keep up the great work. One of the most original and thoughtful commentators on this website.
One of the things I like about your videos is that you verbally react to the NPCs dialog. Of course, you only need to do that in F3 and FNV, and I really enjoy when you explore all the dialog options as well as give us explanations and lore. Can't wait for Mothership Zeta.
@@oxhorn I 100% disagree. It is how the profit munchers discovered a faster and cheaper way of getting shit done and took the shortest path. In doing so, and this being the Fallout universe, that "shortest path" also allowed the annihilation of all of the workers with no consequences at all. So both of you need to get your heads out of your asses and understand that until robots can endlessly produce whatever we want at no cost to us, we will fight for out jobs. On top of that, there will be people who will fight tooth and nail to keep the job they have because it makes them feel better. In your world humans are irrelevant but if you haven't noticed we still are.
R. King me too! I just downloaded Broken steel today (on my ps3, 10 euros) but dont know why but The dlc "dont wants to activate". Tomorrow I'm calling Sony to... Well It was 10 euros... Or i get those back... Or they give me a free-working Broken steel
I think you got on the soapbox for the wrong reason at 23:45 in the video. The manager was saying that it was a bad way to do it, not that it was bad to do it. It's an unfortunately common strategy. Instead of telling your workers to start looking for new work because they'll be replaced soon, management intentionally lies or withholds information in order to bleed their workers for every hour they can until the new system is in place. This gives the workers no warning and no time to search for new work, and the reason why management does this is because people stop showing up to work that they know will end, or they might find a new job before their old one fully phases them out. There are correct ways to do it (have workers sign binding agreements that void their compensation if they depart early, pay them more for their final month after warning them, or use a random lottery to replace small quantities of workers at a time), but all of those things cost time or effort. In the Fallout universe, it's right in line with the dystopia of pre-war society, down to murdering employees instead of using the police like they're supposed to. It parodies something that happens too often.
"work will set us all free". Ashur might as well rename the Pitt Auschwitz-Birkenau. At the entrance of that camp, it says in German "work will set you free"
The mutations aren't caused by the fumes and junk being given off by the factory. They are caused by the chemicals and other crap that's been in the water, food and air since the nukes struck during the great war. The current work the slaves are forced to do only exacerbates the condition by forcing them to constantly be exposed to some of the worst pockets (it is important to mention that the raiders are infected as well, as far as I can tell).
The way you tell the story's, your voice, the way you play the game, the decisions you make, makes me stick to your videos like super glue and where there is nothing new to watch, I just replay the old ones. I'm just like a ghost watching over your videos.
I love the Pitt. Its one of my Favorite DLC. As Always Oxhorn you deliver the Best Fallout Lore Videos ever. Proud to be a Subscriber. Another DLC I love is Point Lookout. I hope that is the Next DLC week after this one!
So despite him mocking you by telling you he's going to loot your corpse once you are dead, it's very obvious that he never ventures into the steelyard since there's a decent condition assault rifle just laying around right in front of his door... =p
i love how this master slaver dude keeps talking like "we are going to work together to make this place good" and "we will build the city with hard labour" well the only ones i see working are the slaves. neither he nor his raiders seem to do any work at all. the lesson is not "why" not to replace humans with machines. rather, it is "how" not to replace humans with machines. if you do it like the management of this factory, replacing all workers at once, there will be a lot of anger, destroyed machines and innocent blood spilled. if you do it a bit smarter and less easily noticable than just firing everyone at the same time, it might work out well enough. the thing with adapting is a bit of a false equation. let's say the factory starts out with 100 workers. now management decides that it is time to replace all of them with robots. now, suddenly the factory only needs maybe 5 or 10 technicians to perform occasional maintenance. where are the other 90 workers going to go? and that is under the assumption that each and every worker has the neccessary skill and money to immediately start paying for a course on how to become a robot maintenance technician, which very likely isn't the case. but even if that is the case, you still have 100 former workers fight over 10 technician jobs and the others end up unemployed. of course a very good situation for the factory - robots are cheaper and faster than workers and by having many people fight over very few technician jobs they can get away with very low wages for the technicians, so a lot of money is saved on wages meaning more profit for the company - but for the workers it is pretty bad.
24:33 good grief, Ox. We don't come here for your codes of ethics for the modernization of the American workforce within the confines of a Capitalist institution. We come here for lore videos!
Tom's story is very relevant, or at least it will be soon. Current bots (hardware and software) are already writing copy, writing music, driving cars, doing legal discovery, and "general purpose" robots are already in prototype. Once general purpose robots make the same transition VCRs and DVD players made from only the very wealthy to the general public, most jobs will become scarce, including but not at all limited to making more hardware and software robots. There's no clear answer, but simply fighting progress isn't going to work any better than it did for Tom's coworkers.
Whats it called...the Singularity. The point in which robots can walk, talk, and mimic human behavior to the point that the two are so alike you can't tell which is which. Yeah, I say that it can be a reality eventually.
I'm surprised he didn't mention that Wild Bill's body and the steel ingots around his body can glitch through the wall and floor. Which can make them both inaccessible to the player unless you glitch through the wall.
Also, it's worth mentioning that when you're on the quest to collect the ingots they have no wait. But after turning in the quest the ingots will have weight. So it's best to collect all 100 ingots while on the quest, unless you want to end up making multiple trips if you left too many behind.
Since I started replaying fallout 3, I started and finished the Pitt over the last weekend, coincidentally. Not sure if I'm super happy with my choices, but not sure if the other options would of been morally better or not. since I'm trying to play a good character.
By the Æsír you are a demigod. How do you even have time and energy to do this? Oxhorn, you amaze me to no end. Seriously, your commitment to these videos is astonishing.
In Pittsburgh we call them Still Mills. Also: PPG Place The Still Building And Pittsburgh used to be that smoggy irl. Men- sorry, WORKERS would carry two shirts to change into after they go home. Pittsburgh had many steel mills that were shut down, many many people lost jobs. I can see why these workers got violent, and I don't blame them.
The jobs threatened by robots jokes in these fallout games were meant to be black comedy jokes in 2008 ten years and change later and it's frighteningly close to reality
During the radio broadcasts, Ashur said something to the effect of "work sets us all free". This is probably a reference to the Nazi Holocaust, where plaques were put up around the camps saying "work sets you free" (in German of course).
If the steel plant workers were in a recession or something like that, then they may have been unable to find other jobs or adapt to their new situation. Automation SHOULDN'T sentence people to poverty, but until we have some sort of universal basic income for everyone, that's exactly what it will continue to do. This is a large part of why phasing out coal production, while necessary, is considered a "wicked problem"; the people who work in these hazardous coal mines and plants don't have any other way to earn a living. If we institute a UBI and make college education free (or at least, vastly more affordable), then we can circumvent this problem, but it doesn't sound like old world Pittsburgh had any social safety nets in place to keep these workers and their families fed, and management didn't seem to care about their lives, let alone their livelihoods. I always saw that bit of lore as a tragedy exploring yet another way that bosses don't have to face consequences for screwing over their workers if they have either enough power or a convenient scapegoat. What those workers did was wrong, but it wouldn't have happened at all if management had been honest from the start and helped them find some way to stay employed. At the very least, they could have afforded to give each employee a substantial enough severance check to keep them afloat for a few months while they looked for work, instead of cutting them loose with nothing to help them pay rent. I think what we learn on the supply closet terminal fits well with the themes of The Pitt; some slaves, like Brand, will do terrible things out of their own self-interest, but they wouldn't be doing those things in the first place if they weren't being treated as utterly disposable by the people in charge.
I don‘t think that‘s the meaning of Tom‘s story at all. It‘s meant to make us draw parallels between the Pitt of the past and present; different eras of downtrodden workers and management who see labourers as expendable and replaceable.
The "work shall set us all free" kind of reminds me of the line "Arbeid macht Frei" (work sets you free) which is above the gate of auschwitz. I dont know if this was intentional but its creepy. Especially the similarities of people getting worked to death...
Really? So the management was wright about this situation with replacement men by robots? The owner of this plant must be thinking only about the profit, and not about workers. And management only care about the profit either. Every game in fallout universe is full of situations of overexploitation of workers by capitalists. I realise that economy in the Usa might have a better way of solving such situations nowadays but in my country (which is Russia, by the way) it is seen this way-managers in the situation with protectrons behaved like pigs.
Rewatching this series again - Oxhorn's lore videos are top notch and extremely enjoyable - but man the political commentary in favor of the bosses definitely didn't age well since my last viewing.
Loved the Pit. In all the main Fallout games all the cities you traverse have been directly nuked. Pittsburgh was one of the major cities that wasn't. Wish you could explore more. Plus The pit added one of the best unique guns in the game, the perforater. That gun coupled with a high sneak skill and the Chinese stealth armor made you silent death walking. The only other silent gun in the game is a 10 mm handgun which is pretty weak. Plus the perforators slower fire rate and higher damage plus a scope made it an excellent mid range sniper rifle.
One problem with replacing humans with robots: robots don't consume goods. The end game of replacing all 'inefficient" workers with automation is no customers.

We found him on the floor, covered in blood. Paladin: Could it have been one of our own? The General is going to think it's us. Us! That's only going to cause tensions. We need this resolved. I want positive results with the investigations. Knight: Isn't that what Investigators are for? Paladin: You're right. Who could help us? Nick Valentine: Did someone say...investigator? Knight: You came from...where? Nick: The General let's me roam around the Castle here and there. Every since you metal freaks moved in too, things have been wacky. Not a whole lotta room for a synth like me. Knight: Watch yourself, you filth! Nick: I'll be watching...you too. Paladin: Valentine? You're the only synth anyone could trust. Can you help us? If the Minutemen or General find that body our alliance is done for, and the Commonwealth will fall to the Legion. Nick: Right. Don't you think we should get to know each other's names? Paladin: Heh, right. I am Paladin Cedric. This here is Knight Hollser. Hollser: Yes sir. Nick: Wonderful. It's like we can go dress up as ballerinas now. But let's get to the point. Where exactly did the murder happen? Hollser: We found his body in one of abandoned cellar rooms under the Castle. Usually there's a couple Minutemen down there..but that room has a HAM radio in it. Nick: Was it working? Hollser: Yes. Nick: Hmm. Take me to the cellar. (Abandoned Cellar Room) Nick: (Picks up notes that are signed by mysterious names along with John Dee) Interesting. He was sending transmissions _and_ letters. But how were the letters coming through? And who was sending and receiving them? Hollser: Yeah, too many questions. I say we hide the body and lie to Cedric. Nick: Are you kidding? Hollser. Be honest here. This a serious case and could be a huge matter in the conflict with the Legion. Hollser: Yes. You're right. (General's Quarters) Preston: General. We now have the Railroad with us as well. I've called my raider gangs. They'll be here as soon as possible. General: Right. Ronnie, any word on the Legion's location? Preston: (Almost touches a very expensive old world artifact) General: Please! Do...not...touch that, Preston. (Whispers to Ronnie Shaw) *_This is why I don't miss Preston._* Ronnie: Haha! Good one, General! General: (Puts his finger to his lips) Shh! Preston: (Slips and tries gripping to the artifact. He goes down, bringing it with him and shattering it all over the floor) Oh my bad! I can replace it, I promise..........I think....yes. Yes I can do it. Maybe. General: That is a one and only! It can't be replaced you idiot! Ugh! You ruin everything Garvey. Pretty soon our relationship with the Brotherhood and Railroad is going to be destroyed because of you! Dismissed! And clean it up! You're right, but Orwell used examples of everyday life in the Soviet Union as inspiration for his distopian futures. So yes it is Soviet, and also it is Orwellian.
Just because Orwell took some inspiration the Soviet Union (and war time Britain) doesn't mean that it's Orwellian propaganda.. The soviet style propaganda is very much about the lower classes getting what's owed to them, and no one standing above them anymore, and that only by self-sacrificing for the community can real progress be made. Orwell's propaganda was far broader than what the speaker is going into, especially considering that it normally incorporates the addition of doublespeak (a very important part of Orwellian speech), blind devotion to someone who knows better and will protect you and references to "non persons" who threaten the peaceful life.
+Neutral Milk Motel No.. no it's not. The two types of propaganda relied on sending out different messages to it's people. This is reminiscent of the early revolution style propaganda of the Soviet Union. It's all in the language that is used.
I don't know how people can stand that; it's so immersion-breaking and distracting. I can't help but see every time they get cut off by the edges of your screen or something in front of them.

I wish we had an entire Fallout game in Pennsylvania. Lots of history. There could be "Amish" communities or factions, lol.
The problem with your "adapt to change" idea is that even if you study to repair robots, a company will need far more of that position than the ones the robots replaced. And EVERYONE will still need to eat and pay rent and bills. Where will those new jobs come from if not all can go into repairing the robots? Especially if other factories were also switching to robotic workers, there would just not be any open jobs for them to take. That switch, spread across an entire nation's industry, would put millions out of work and create perhaps a few thousand new jobs. There's no way the manufacture of the robots wasn't already largely automated, so that's out. They would need universal basic income, but in the horribly corrupt and dystopic world of Fallout I don't think they would ever have gotten it and they knew that. They were angry and desperate because their lives were on the line and they knew that for most of them there was no change they could make that could save them. They were unreasonable and lashed out at the wrong target, but their anger was justified.
The NCR already had an industrial revolution, Ashur. You aren't the best. The NCR has hundreds of factories like yours except everyone's a paid worker, and there's no Trogs and shit.
I would have to guess Ashur is unaware of the NCR. It seems to me their is a big divide between west and east coast. (I wonder what the Midwest is like) I doubt many people travel across the US besides that one part of the brotherhood. So I doubt anyone from the capitol wasteland would get any reliable information from California.
Depends on what you mean by better off. Sure, survival is no longer a problem for the average citizen, now its a problem of keeping within the laws of the country, taxes, and trying to keep alive with all the people who hate the NCR gunning for you.Plus, I think the Brotherhood of the East could probably give the NCR a run for their money. And not every part of the East Coast is on that kind of level. The Commonwealth has some form of order.
I wonder how these factories have the manpower by now with how slave deaths are treated. You think how common death is here, you think the slavers would be more careful with there slaves since if they all due their will be no one to work the factories and there out of the business, yeah they conduct raids for new slaves but would even that be enough to make up loses.
Brandon Lyon It's because they can easily get more slaves. There's shit tons of slavers in D.C. constantly pumping a supply of slaves to the Pitt, and slavers in a few other locations. The slaves are expendable to them.
Doesn’t make as big of a difference when the ones that “survive” just die of disease or go insane. You might even go as far as to say that it’s better if the workers die while they’re still in their right mind.
How do they get the caps to buy more slaves , no one is buying any steel products at all and they scavenge food from the city area but it's meager and terriblely inefficient to do , If I was the lone wonderer I would build a big healthy colony at point lookout it has potential lol
So in conclusion, if you are replaced by a robot: Just learn to code. At least you'll get some closure in knowing that you now rule the brains of those that replaced you.
I loved Fallout 3, never played the pit fully other then going in guns blazing with god mode on and getting the cure that way ... dont ask. But watching your videos is so entertaining its crazy. The attention to all the detail, the narration is just perfect. Can't wait for more!
23.43 said the youtuber whos job can't be taken by a robot. I love your content but I absolutely disagree with your opinion on this. Im not proud. In their shoes I would freak the hell out. Im not trying to be offensive, but perhaps walk a mile in someones shoes whos job may one day be replaced when they are already struggling to just get by. Thats all. If your job is taken, I agree you should be expected to do bash actions. Maybe even criminal actions. That doesn't excuse that these men tried to kill their friend over a fucking paycheck.
@@NoBody-lj5xh it wasn't "just a paycheck" tho it's was food in their kids belly, clothes om their back, a roof to sleep under, and is that guy really they're "freind" if he continually lied to them about something as important as their livelihood

Your comments about this labor dispute are offensive and demonstrate an astounding level of ignorance. The brutality of management and the bourgeoisie in the situation outlined is similar to many cases where technology was not utilised for "progress" but to maximise profits and exert even greater power over the working class. The fact you can't see the dystopian situation (like many outlined in pre-war Fallout) here is extremely telling. Social darwinism is all very well when it's preached by the wealthy who've never had to scrape by a day in their life, but the essence of capitalism has always been profits and money over people. There is a long history of brutality and cruelty to situations like this, going back hundreds of years. What support do you imagine exists in the real world to support many who find themselves in similar situations? What is progress when it serves only to entrench the power of the powerful and rob the majority even more?
Fun Fact! During the Industrial Revolution in France, many weavers objected to the new mills that were taking away their livelihood. They responded by throwing wooden clogs into the mill workings to break them. These clogs were called sabots, those throwing them were called saboteurs and the act itself was called sabotage.
Seems suspect can you or anyone else link me the article

Solo Probably one of the best DLCs of F3, together with Point Lookout. Wish you could explore more, have more areas, instead of rather linear scenery.. x). Love fighting hillbillies in the swamp of PL.. x)
I think Mothership Zeta is one of the best also...
I actually think Mothership Zeta is the worst, it's very lore breaking and was very linear and got boring after a while, the weapons were cool but it just felt really flat compared to the others
how is zeta lore breaking? aliens have been part of the lore since the first fallout game.
Thats interesting I never thought of that either. Seems like a pretty big plot hole
@@shawnwolf5961 Mabye they tried to use Garys or used Vault 106 victims for slaves.

Oli_bagan yeah they had an educated charismatic psychopath organizing them basically... The Pitt has Most in common with Ceasers Legion
Electrical Gaming yeah I've been in the disciples area but at the port they force them to do dangerous work whereas at nuka world they just own shops

@@josephmatthews7698 agreed, im usually not that interested in politics (or at least not the 2 party quarrel crap they do now), more so i try to look back and understand the dynamic of how democracy and free trade capitialism was intended and supposed to work when structured, then apply it to today while questioning whether somethings broken and need to be fixed, or just needs to be updated to fit a modern situation of cirumstances, and as far as i can tell its both lol, theres some stuff that just needs to be evaluated again and addressed, but the bigger issue is democracy and capitialism are just pretty much broken now, so business is becoming more restrictive and limited and now companies are having personal opinions you have to agree with or your ousted, and democracy is broken cuz nobody can choose anyone other than the Republicrats
yes im intentionally grouping them together cuz even tho they pretend like they are divided on 2 sides they really work together and agree as 1 unit, the rest is a show to divide the public / the people along only 2 sides so they fight and argue between each other about the 2 sides, instead of the people questioning "why the govt isnt doing their job of finding the reasonable middle ground to compromise for the majority of the country?"
which is cuz they dont have to, the competition aspect of democracy has been broken since they reduced it to a 2 party system which it wasnt supposed to be, and now no matter what they do they all still get to keep the same jobs, make the same money as part of the system etc. which is broken lol

The lesson of Tom McMullin is that, when man is replaced with machine for the sake of greed, ultimately man will Die.
yep, his little speech pissed me off.
totally agree with you. I love Ox content but cant bear his ideals. they are totally sick
The answer is simple: completely rework the world economy from the ground up. \o/

The Pit: part 3
But every time Ashur says 'work'
You take a shot of tequila.
Good luck
Rebly able Can you do it instead? With cyanide?

love the way you can totally greass up Wild Bills death and not even lose Karma.
Fuck that hahaha
Shit, I need to go buy some tequila!
The way he says "work" wants you to drink a shot of tequila 😳😂🥃
This video was aired on my birthday, it was a good present to hear about his, Your voice is soothing Oxhorn, I like to listen to your commentary when I need a breather from life and your voice never fails
I really don't know why, but the Trogs scared the shit out of me when i were younger xD
Faint? she helicopters!
These multiple part lore videos are like movies but actually good
It's easy to say that when you've never been replaced buy a machine and the job that you work is your only way to make a living
Heres a note: The wild bills side arm is also a weapon available in fallout shelter. You could possibly include this in your "all the loot" video
So early it doesnt even show up on his channel lmao
One of the things I like about your videos is that you verbally react to the NPCs dialog. Of course, you only need to do that in F3 and FNV, and I really enjoy when you explore all the dialog options as well as give us explanations and lore. Can't wait for Mothership Zeta.
It's not about robots replacing men, it's about "how"! Lies by the management made it worse.
That's true, the lies made it much worse.
“I lost a lot of limbs trying to kill these guys” the radiation must’ve turned oxhorn part lizard
Never got to play any FO3 DLCs.. which makes this an awesome experience
R. King me too! I just downloaded Broken steel today (on my ps3, 10 euros) but dont know why but The dlc "dont wants to activate".
Tomorrow I'm calling Sony to... Well It was 10 euros... Or i get those back... Or they give me a free-working Broken steel
+Awkward Chameleon Ever get the problem fixed?
Appreciate the work you do oxhorn.
Cant wait for Old World Blues, these videos are the only thing keeping me fresh with Fallout Lore
Oxhorn I love your videos! I'm recovering from surgery and there's nothing like Fallout lore to keep me going!
Keep up the good work friend :)
Lora Elstad thank you so much!
Kawaii Birb How are you doing? You recover well?
Yassir El Badr recovery has been a bit slower than expected but I'm pushing through!
"work will set us all free". Ashur might as well rename the Pitt Auschwitz-Birkenau. At the entrance of that camp, it says in German "work will set you free"
OH NO NOT THE IGUANA BITS 🤢
Fallout 4 Vudeos mmm, 'iguana' bits~
Yeah 'iguana' bits some people's favourite

Your profile picture makes me think that I just started a new Fallout 4 game and started creating a character
So despite him mocking you by telling you he's going to loot your corpse once you are dead, it's very obvious that he never ventures into the steelyard since there's a decent condition assault rifle just laying around right in front of his door... =p
11:09 did your gun jam
The workers should've burnt the plant down and visited the homes of the higher-ups after that 😈
I love how you do these videos as well! You know, it'd be so freaking cool if you did a whole Let's Play like this!
i love how this master slaver dude keeps talking like "we are going to work together to make this place good" and "we will build the city with hard labour" well the only ones i see working are the slaves. neither he nor his raiders seem to do any work at all.
the lesson is not "why" not to replace humans with machines. rather, it is "how" not to replace humans with machines. if you do it like the management of this factory, replacing all workers at once, there will be a lot of anger, destroyed machines and innocent blood spilled. if you do it a bit smarter and less easily noticable than just firing everyone at the same time, it might work out well enough.
the thing with adapting is a bit of a false equation. let's say the factory starts out with 100 workers. now management decides that it is time to replace all of them with robots. now, suddenly the factory only needs maybe 5 or 10 technicians to perform occasional maintenance. where are the other 90 workers going to go? and that is under the assumption that each and every worker has the neccessary skill and money to immediately start paying for a course on how to become a robot maintenance technician, which very likely isn't the case. but even if that is the case, you still have 100 former workers fight over 10 technician jobs and the others end up unemployed. of course a very good situation for the factory - robots are cheaper and faster than workers and by having many people fight over very few technician jobs they can get away with very low wages for the technicians, so a lot of money is saved on wages meaning more profit for the company - but for the workers it is pretty bad.
Benny tops they will create new industry's that humans work

I'm surprised he didn't mention that Wild Bill's body and the steel ingots around his body can glitch through the wall and floor. Which can make them both inaccessible to the player unless you glitch through the wall.
Also, it's worth mentioning that when you're on the quest to collect the ingots they have no wait. But after turning in the quest the ingots will have weight. So it's best to collect all 100 ingots while on the quest, unless you want to end up making multiple trips if you left too many behind.
The White Wolf
Yeah that happened to me. My game won't glitch me to where Wild Bill & the ingots are. Tried several times.
Also:
PPG Place
The Still Building
And Pittsburgh used to be that smoggy irl.
This is probably a reference to the Nazi Holocaust, where plaques were put up around the camps saying "work sets you free" (in German of course).
lmao I love the lines when being evil. Freaking hilarious!
Drinking game: take a shot every time Asher says "work."
U think drinking is a game?
@@bv3365 you think it isn't?
I don‘t think that‘s the meaning of Tom‘s story at all. It‘s meant to make us draw parallels between the Pitt of the past and present; different eras of downtrodden workers and management who see labourers as expendable and replaceable.
Monday is my least favorite day...
no oxhorn
11:50 literally breath taking
Hi you are the best fallout UA-camr, hi from england
England! Wow, that's my favorite city!
Admiral Jackson Not again..
DAZ PERSON well, finally someone from England!
One problem with replacing humans with robots: robots don't consume goods. The end game of replacing all 'inefficient" workers with automation is no customers.

Quick Recap: Former Enclave doctor, Dr. John Dee was freed from the Brotherhood's grasp. The Legion is taking him back to their Fort in University Point. The NCR is resting in the swamps, in the southern area of the Commonwealth. They now have their sights on Diamond City...but so does the Legion.
Episode Twenty:
(The Castle)
Knight: He's gone!
Paladin: Who? What's going on, Knight?
Knight: The! The! He! I! Saw!
Paladin: (Slaps the Knight) Bring it together, Knight! What happened?!
Knight: The Doctor, John...j-j-ohn...D-D-D-Dee!
Paladin: I knew it. That rat was up to something. It was a mistake for Lancer Captain Kells to have imprisoned him. Get some search parties and investigations.
Knight: We found a dead Minuteman.
Paladin: You...what?
Knight: He was stabbed to death.
(Abandoned Cellar Room)
Nick: (Picks up notes that are signed by mysterious names along with John Dee) Interesting.
(General's Quarters)
Preston: General. We now have the Railroad with us as well. I've called my raider gangs. They'll be here as soon as possible.
General: Right. Ronnie, any word on the Legion's location?
Preston: (Almost touches a very expensive old world artifact)
General: Please! Do...not...touch that, Preston. (Whispers to Ronnie Shaw) *_This is why I don't miss Preston._*
Ronnie: Haha!
That's it for this episode. Don't forget that contest! I'm really excited to see everyone's creations! Make them valid and legit characters also. PLEASE.

The radio broadcast, it's not really Orwellian.. this is more soviet style "lower classes unite" kind of stuff.
It's practically the same thing
frostmagemarii reminds me of bioscock

No.. no it's not.
The two types of propaganda relied on sending out different messages to it's people.

I wish there was more to the Pitt. I love Pittsburgh and it's history. I was born and live in Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh is my favorite city. It's just a huge pain to get to! So many streets. We got detoured from the squirrel tunnels because of some sort of race and construction going on, oh boy, not even my cousins native born Pittsburgh boyfriend knew the area we were in that well. :)
if someone redose fallout 3 with all DLCs in fallout, I would definitely add more to to the Pitt! I wish we had an entire Fallout game in Pennsylvania. Lots of history. There could be "Amish" communities or factions, lol.
I live in Pittsburgh and this is weird to watch because I know where all of these places are😂😂😂
The problem with your "adapt to change" idea is that even if you study to repair robots, a company will need far more of that position than the ones the robots replaced.
GoreGutztheImpaler Ashur probably knew of the NCR as he was one the paladins to go on the east coast expedition from the west coast.
NCR is a LOT better off than the East Coast overall, especially the Pitt.
At the time, I guess they weren't as big as they are now. They were likely just a small community doing things different.
You just gotta love these The Pitt videos/series!!!
In Portuguese brazil slaves deaths put paced births....they just bought more, same situation.
How do they get the caps to buy more slaves , no one is buying any steel products at all and they scavenge food from the city area but it's meager and terriblely inefficient to do , If I was the lone wonderer I would build a big healthy colony at point lookout it has potential lol
"Took every shot of my pistol" was stupidly funny.
