I just got that album today and listened it, thinking it would resemble EPICA, but then i had to turn around to check if my walls are still standing. Holy moly that thing is brutal and fast, you get run over with drums, guitars, bass keyboards and the vocalists and Orchestra. Surely a well produced masterpiece of modern Symphonic Death Metal and the most powerful album i have heard in some time \m/

Álvaro Gorefest Orchestrations are pretty basic too, they just sound massive. Speaking about massive-sounding things, guitars sound so compressed and weak. One of my biggest pet peeves with Mark Jansen's projects is the horrible sound mix, especially with the guitars.
Jan well, his solos sounded too "happy" to me.

DeaAd I don't know much about orchestrations, that's why I didn't say they're basic (even though I thought they were a bit basic). Yeah, it's a pretty flat guitar tone, sounds kinda plastic

Mark had an interview where he says they're focused on finishing a book, and then will do studio stuff end of 2019. I hope sooner, but I also would want them to be freshly charged. Whatever they wanna do.
I guess taking the break was another factor too..

That is definitely not some black metal. It has some progressive, symphonic, power and neo-death elements but not black in my opinion. I don't hear some Mgla or Emperor or Early Dimmu Borgir in it to give some examples.
I felt very disappointed with Antagonise, but this make quite hyped for the new album. Lots more of personality e energy.

Not sure which one you mean mate? MaYaN use a few singers, aggressive vocals will either be Mark Jansen (Epica) or George Oosthoek, clean male vocals Henning Basse (Firewind), operatic vocals Laura Macri, other operatic and non-operatic female vocals are Marcela Bovio (ex Stream Of Passion). All of them are really good at what they do, you won't find any weak links in MaYaN...

I think this is more of a motivational song. Sometimes you sing about what you are going to do, other times you say "Go out and do it!" I get the sense they have a cause, but I am not sure what it is.

Stop comparing Mayan to Dimmu Borgir, please. Dimmu Borgir stomps for about 25 years now, released 10 super-good albums, some of which redefined symphonic black metal, having one of the best guitarists ever in the genre, Galder. They're extremely stable in their sound. Mayan are still pretty young to get compared with those Legends and you're insulting them by doing that. They are a pretty good band though and i am a fan of them.
