This isnt well established in dub but Goku cnat stand public displays of affection, its his saiyan genetics... you will see at the end of this saga a scene where he completely freaks out. He is fine with it in private, but not in public.

In the Japanese canon, flight as understood by Earthlings has an actual name: Bukuujutsu (meaning "Dancing Sky Arts", metaphorically referring to how it lets the user move freely in the air). That's why Roshi calls it by such a weird name in this episode.
Also, important reminder that in the manga both the Dragon Team and the readers really hadn't seen Chi-Chi at all past her debut mini-arc, so her coming back for this tournament was a big surprise.
Chi Chi's faith in Goku has never wavered. So when she has Gohan studying during the end of the world, that is because she fully believes Goku will take care of things.
Kind of a dumb move still tbh. Goku won’t live forever, but the threats just seem to keep coming. Eventually, someone else is going to have to pick up the mantle.
Besides, just think of all of the money that Gohan could’ve made if he kept training and took Mr. Satan’s championship titles away. The man could’ve been wealthier than some random researcher could.

How would you react if after your husband left go see his fighter friends, he was killed and your kid kidnapped at 4 years old. Kidnapped to fight some evil aliens that came after. Then after your husband victory he s hugely hurt and your son you didn t see in months scream at you to go to namek.

Literally she thinks that studies are more important than your own life.

@@unlimited971 No one is disputing that Chi-Chi has good reason at times to be strict with Goku and Gohan, but it would be nice to get some moments where she isn’t being an angry wife/mom stereotype.
Chi-Chi is angry throughout this fight and really lets Goku have it, but she still shows some vulnerability and kindness. These are the kinds of moments that she is missing as the series progresses.

The Krillin fight in this tournament is probably his best fight in the entire series and my second favourite fight in this tournament. The chorography is top notch.

And now I'm remembering how ChiChi got all nostalgic telling this story to Videl. 😅 ChiChi's problem is she doesn't know she's in a shonen manga married to the MC.
That's where Piccolo gets that technique from. In a lot of future fights, Piccolo usually uses a ki blast to distract and move closer for a hit. It's his bread and butter.

Goku and ChiChi's engagement is so cute! I love ChiChi during this portion of Dragon Ball. I hope you watch the following "arc" that ends this series.
And Krillin's fight with Piccolo is awesome. We see that even when outmatched, the short monk can still surprise his stronger foes.
Yeah, this and the the last arc are a side of ChiChi we never sadly see again.
4:42 Yeah, he did, but seemingly alsmot every translation never gets that. Being a country bumpkin, like Goku, she's got a country accent in the original manga and anime and that's what Oolong picks up on. But then everyone else doesn't notice that and she just speaks "proper". The manga I have does give her a distinct speech pattern.
As much as I love the dub cast of Dragon Ball, I do wish the ADR directors had the foresight to direct Goku and Chi-Chi's dub actors with the country dialect in mind. It is hard to listen to and pick up if you aren't familiar with Japanese, but once you notice the differences in performances (particularly with how Masako Nozawa portrays Goku versus how she portrays either Gohan or Goten), you can hear the nuances in the vocal delivery.

Chi Chi is the perfect representation of the Japanese woman. Sweet and gentle while she is in the dating stage, upset after she gets married and a real shrew after she has her first child. That thing in DBZ where Chi Chi cares more about Goham than Goku is based on real Japanese life. Some Japanese women completely forget about their husbands and dedicate themselves completely to their children, to the point that husband and wife sleep in separate rooms. This, unfortunately, is one of the causes of depression and even suicide among Japanese men. And also one of the reasons why they no longer want to get married and start a family.

The flying technique is called bukujutsu, literally sky dancing technique. The dubbers probably wanted to keep the rhythm but also probably felt the name wasn't manly enough. They had no way to know that, by the next arc, every fighter in the main cast would be proficient in bukujutsu.
Krillin does put up a surprisingly good fight against Piccolo.
"The Hovering Space Trick? Isn't it just flying?"
It is flying, but the ability to fly is called the Sky Dance Technique. I dunno why they call it "Hovering Space Trick" here, but it's a technique that's taught by the Crane School.
I believe when goku proposed in this episode, he hadn't fallen in love with chichi yet(after all, he questions what she means when she says love), but he was attracted to her. After all, it was explained in Super that saiyans are attracted to strong women

It was light hearted in the beginning of the episode With Chi Chi fighting Goku but then he got real Serious In the End With Krillin facing Piccolo

People forget Goku and Chi Chi actually love each other. Z kinda did her dirty but realistically who would want their only child fighting dangerous planet busters? Abridged kinda set her character straight especially in the Cell Saga.

I think it’s easy to not like chi chi growing up cuz you want to see the fighting but when you remember that her only kid is 4-11 years old fighting beings that can destroy the world and can kill him her character makes a lot of sense
WIth Chichi not wanting going out to fight even with world ending scenarios, that's still her only child. She barely ever tripped about Goku going out unless it was life or death but I'd think something was wrong with her if she didn't protest Gohan going out fighing demons before middle school lol

The only clue the Japanese fan has was Chi Chi accent. Just like Goku they both had a deep farm southern folk accent. We haven't seen Chi Chi in years! Also many (girls) fan were outage with Goku getting married!

It's funny, because Goku only asked Chichi to marry him because he promised when he was a kid even though he doesn't understand anything about love and romance. 😅 Also Bulma probably thought Yamcha was pedo confessing love to Chichi as a kid.

Vegeta is honestly a pretty good dad in a way, to trunks he was hard on him but honestly probably treating him like a saiyan to make him stronger and he didn’t break his promise to him, and he’s been great either way his daughter. Krillin and 18 are also pretty good for their daughter

And Chichi knows exactly that and thats why she teased him in this episode, guy is extremely shy actually.

I understand you might not like it but no form of Dragon ball anime has ever went under 6.5/10 so you saying it deserves a 3/10 is too much of a reach for any continuity (even GT isn't that low and it was the worst rating in all continuities with 6.5/10). If you don't personally like it,okay cool but a 3/10 is a literal disrespect to Dragon ball franchise by saying it's close to Dragon ball evolution(which was given 2.5/10)

Db super is too awful a series for me and lot of people thats why there are so many videos hating on super on youtube and tik tok; I could list so many things wrong with super.
This is easily my favorite version of Chi-chi. Although I know she’s technically supposed to be a sweet and loving wife and mother, I hate that we mainly would see her angry and yelling in Z - an unbecoming trait for anyone.

The quality of body movement in the fights will never be as good as they were in this tournament. You can see every part of the body moving and making contact with the other fighter. These fights are so good! They are not just spamming punches and kicks

Looking back, oolong was surprisingly observant. Granted, it's usually for the wrong reasons.
I have some problem with Japan. Apparently many Japanese are not happy. And I could think, that's how Toriyama wrote Chi-Chi. Not that she's not happy, but very strict (traditional(ly Japanese)? ), and somewhat putting quite a strain on their family dynamics. It seems, Japan(ese) do(es) that quite not seldom. (In the work environment, ..., probably practically every aspect of Japanese social life.)
