@@alexjenkins1079 The S-Bahn/RER analogy comes close but doesn't quite fit. No S-Bahn or RER can run at BART frequencies. BART runs at 4-minute frequencies right now and is upgrading to 2-minute frequencies in the near future. 80% of the system never sees frequencies under 7.5 minutes outside of late nights and weekends. That would make BART by far the best S-bahn/RER system in the world. I think BART WMATA and a few other similar systems deserve their own category. If you put them in the S-bahn/RER box they destroy the competition too convincingly. Furthermore, while BART was envisioned as super-commuter rail, it's basically turning into a more normal subway/metro with the current upgrades. The new the 3-door trains and frequencies have sealed the deal. Now they just need enough money to run frequent service at all times after the fiscal cliff in 2025.

BART really is such a curious system. It's like commuter rail masquerading as a rapid transit system.
Yeah, perhaps I’d call it an S-Train (in my estimation it works like the Munich S-Bahn or the Paris RER (especially Lines A and B)

Is it just me or do these trains acceleration sounds very similar to some of the NYC subways accelerating?
The older trains were built in the 1970s
@@richrenwick3123 yeah but all of them sound very similar to the newer NYC subway trains. I guess they use the same motors?
They are most likely built from the same corporation, like WMATA Trains in DC.
@@NortheastRailroadFanner true. Siemens for example built some trains used by LA Metro and others and despite looking different, they sound the same
