It's almost like not implementing every single protocol gives the developers time to concentrate on polishing the desktop. But I know, unpopular opinion.
I like how Android widgets work, organizing them in grids and pages, but I wouldn't implement this directly on the desktop because the open application windows would be at the front, it would be more interesting to be a top-level window separate from the desktop
@ they were getting onto something with the windows tiles, but in the end, they judged them a dead end and abandoned them 😔. but you're right, mobile os' widgets have always been more polished
It would make sense to say you have extensions if they were stable from one release to the next. But this is gnome we are talking about. Fantasy-land-driven development.
I just use KDE plasma, It can behave like GNOME easily or do whatever he heck I want and it's a community project. GNOME is a very tone deaf piece of software that is going to be redundant the moment we get a full COSMIC release.
for example, it would be super useful on Mii Play im doing; speaking of which, another Wayland limitation is that clicking through doesnt work either!!
@ If it were just that... Gnome was an interface ahead of its time, but the arrogance of the maintainers has driven the community apart and other more inclusive options, like PopOS, have shown themselves to be more promising
Shell on GTK
Seeing stuff like this always baffles me, gnome devs and their infinity wisdom
UA-cam isn't big enough for two linux nerds to share the same avatar
@@PandaMoniumHUN well well well looks like this comment section isn't big enough for the two of us
When someone asks "how can I write a shell in a slower language than Javascript"
I keep wondering why I still use gnome ;_; and when I switch to some other DE, I realize why.

a.k.a. windows 8 start menu?
@@frog-zies The Windows 8 menu is very different, the way widgets were implemented on Android is better
Like the dashboard overlay on old macs

Time for KNOME!

writing an extension and writing an actual Gtk widget, is a quite different t hing, and it is irrelevant if there was an API; that i think!!
Holy hell i have been waiting so long gor something like this!
tfw even gnome shills can't understand gnome devs 😂
Cinnamon is the real deal here btw (I'm happy with my customization)
And thats why my application need to use x11 to work, even on wayland
Im disappointed in Gnome Team.
In many many time ignore users :(
I hope Cosmic or Hyprland will be a stable usable desktop environment.
Is this your actual voice or an AI?
As a Martian (Hungarian) I feel very excluded by the intro.
why? just install another DE, like XFCE4 with hyprland as its window manager, works.

Why do you need widgets on GNOME anyway?

The shell layer protocol is the prefered way to launch an app launcher. And everything that pop up like that should use the shell layer protocol
@@Ross96D can you link to that?
@@mii_beta you can search in the wofi code that the default way of launching the application is through wrl layer shell protocol if supported.
UA-cam is deleting my comments :)
what font do you use in firefox?
it's called "Playtime with Hot Toddies"
@@mii_beta Thank you! ♥
AGS/Astal seems better.
woah! didnt know that! quickly checked it on Github, definitely gonna try it, perhaps upload a demo too! thanks for sharing!!
Yep, and it has multiple language bindings as well. Including python.
Why do you keep promoting gnome though?
Cuz 'he' is GNOME fun'boy'
because that's what I'm using, also, never to Qt!!!!😅
@@mii_beta Wen flutter?😂
hi
R u like kinda tomboy personality, it's sounds basically never mind 😁
Gnome is dying slowly
in yer dreams son.
it's not that GNOME dies, is that GTK actually becomes nice, and we are stacked to the stupid Shell Toolkit!!
cope
