Wow, the depiction of Ravana as a saviour makes a lot of sense. We are living in an era where people kill others roaring Jai sri ram.
Sri Lankans (Lankan Tamils & Sinhalese) considering Ravana as their ancestor and saviour is not a new thing. It's in their culture for many centuries.

Good that the story was not based on the Sinhala - Tamil ethnic conflict.
No one has made a proper film on this subject so far. The Tamil uprise was wrongly portrayed by Maniratnam in “Kannathhil muthhamitaal” many years ago;
Recently a film called “Veerathhin magan “( son of courage) was produced in Kerala about Tiger leader Prabaharans 10 yr old son Balachadran who was captured and killed by the Lankan army -- , the story was fully changed , narrated in favour of the Lankan forces.
