- In this HVAC Training Video, I Show How this Version of an Electric Expansion Valve EEV Works and What's Under the Top Shell. This EEV Type is also Known as an LEV Linear Expansion Valve commonly found in VRF, Mini-VRF, and some Mini Spilt Units. LEV Metering Devices are also Commonly Found in Mitsubishi Units. I Show its Operation and Troubleshooting! Here is our other EEV Training Video: "Electric Expansion Valve (EEV) Operation and Testing! HVAC Metering Device Training!" • Electric Expansion Val...

Once again. Best A/C channel on the platform on my opinion. Thanks for the master lesson
I am so glad that you are enjoying the videos!!
@@acservicetechchannel hope you do a video about carrier infinity system. Feel lost every time I have to work in one of them.
What you are describing is a stepper motor. This HVAC trade is becoming a very complex trade many thanks for doing this video.
Yes, it is very similar to an AC stepper motor! Thanks!
Great lesson as always Craig. We really appreciate the time and effort you take to make these presentations.
Thank you so much for your support Tom! I appreciate you!
I greatly appreciate you Craig I'm not really familiar with the EEV/LEV and you are just introducing me to it's purpose gracias sir for giving me a rundown on these devices and how they really work 👍👏
Glad to help!
This lady’s nd gents is why you need to subscribe to Mr. Miggs channel.
Only testing resistance can you determine if the EEV ,LEV is operational.
What a excellent explanation, demonstration nd visually satisfying post.
Thankyou so much Craig for all your posts , editing nd much needed content for us guys in the field ..
@acservicetechchannel great video, I hope you don't mind a couple of minor clarifications to make it even better. At 1:30 -1:40 the gasket is not the pressure seal it just helps lock the acuator in position on the body of the valve. The "spring" at 2:00 in the body of the valve is a bellows assembly the same as an old fashoined mechanical TXV and is the pressure seal / barrier for the refrigerant. Also part of the reason these valves have more pulses is because the coarser thread on the actuator pin is acting against the bellows and refrigerant pressure so the reduction gearbox in the actuator head is used to inrease the torque and still get good control resolution. The other type with the stainless head has no real pressure to work against as the internals are all at system pressure and there is a much finer thread on the needle valve assembly. Swings and roundabouts in a lot of cases :)
Crude but effective cut-away. Thanks!
Thanks a lot!
There are also different styles of stepper motors as well.....bipolar and unipolar motors.
Yes 4 wire EEVs are bipolar!
@acservicetechchannel always appreciate your freely shared knowledge....you are a good man, Craig.
Thanks so much Jason!
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice weekend.
I always appreciate your comments, thanks!
I’m going to start HVAC school this summer. Your channel has helped me so much already. I’m ready to feel proud about learning all of this. Thank you for teaching sir!
PS: any book for Rookies you could recommend me?
Thanks so much for your encouragement! Actually our first book "Refrigerant Charging and Service Procedures for Air Conditioning" is a great book to start out with. We have over 2,000 reviews on amazon and its available at acservicetech.com/store thanks!
Great info. Thanks, Craig.
Brian, thanks a lot brother!!
Great Video Craig..Hoping I could have also the book for my reference.
Awesome, thanks!
It’s well worth the cost
Great vid, Craig.
Pretty darn cool !
General question about EEV/LEV. Do six wire EEV/LEVs always have 2 commons and 5 wire ones just one common?
That is correct!
Thanks
Informative video. On your site under quiz section the " Inverter Mini Split Quiz" question #10 asks " 10. How many thermistors are typically installed on a single zone system? above 0psi, the refrigerant...". what up with the " above 0psi, the refrigerant.." at the end... Thank You...
Hi Craig, Would a malfunctioning EEV cause mini split compressor to go to a high amp condition based on high liquid pressure while in heat mode?
4000 pulses, that's wild!
yeah absolutely!
Hello Ac service🤗! I have a Tesla multisplit system. I want to recovery refrigerant but the EEV are normal close. How may i open the EEV manual?
Hi craig please can l ask if you could explain the air source heat pump install for a hot water system thanks from uk.
Thanks
Excuse me, I need a book on refrigeration, air conditioning and tender repair.
How did you cut open so cleanly ? Ty for video !
Thank you for watching!!
What are the symptoms of eev which remains open partially and liquid refrigerant flowing in stopped indoor unit in VRF system
if there is refrigerant flowing and no airflow, the coil will be very low in temperature and there woukd be frost.
Why EEV doesnt fully gets closed in stopped indoor unit in vrf system. Is it gear problem or mechanical needle. As most common answer due to impure foreign particles preventing the needle to close completely
Can you tell me valve where the gets ground power for move the motor
its just positive and negative dc ends from the circuit board, thanks!
Great video! Thank you.
Ty.
🤘⚡️🤘✨✨✨✨
Thanks so much Dave! You are awesome brother!!!
Are they problematic?
They just look so tedious and junky looking
Compared to a piston that will never fail
Any feedback?
I usually install residential TXV equipment
never really messed with EEV yet
What are the symptoms of the bad EEV ?
if its stck closed, it would be hogh superheat and the majority of the coil would be higher in temp then it should be, thanks!
Is there any reasoning (besides price) for one over the other? The LEV looks like a Carrier product to me "look what we made, just like an eev, but more expensive and wont last as long".
There are more steps of control and more strength for closing the pin position due to the gearing.
@@acservicetechchannel I dont see much of this stuff as Im fairly rural and have a set amount of hvac equipment in my area but the LEV guts looks like the inside of my 5 y/o's toy cars. Everything Ive ever heard was EEV's are 100x better control than a TXV, now LEV's give more control than EEV's. I really want manufacturers to focus with a laser on reliability, enough with gizmos for a bit, who cares how efficient it is when the coil leaks after 3 years?
@@Adam-ul2pxthe gubmint wants it efficient. The mfgs love that they can charge out the wazoo AND you have to buy it from them, no universal or aftermarket.
@@realSamAndrewUntil the lack of training for service techs means good parts get sent back under warranty.
I am in the uk how can buy your books

Plastic gears , not good , will certainly break , I repaired VCRs for many years , plastic gears break .
