  • Only around half will get through this selection process. By the end, they will have completed countless tests, including an over 70-kilometre march - carrying a lot of equipment, sleep deprived and in considerable #pain.
    In order to meet the strict time constraints, the 33 men must not only prove their #strength, skill and endurance, they must also show team spirit and mental resilience. These volunteers are from the 31st and 26th #Paratrooper Regiments. At the end they will be offered the opportunity to become soldiers in the Special Armed Forces with Special Operations Capabilities.

    It is so nice to see those videos in English and I hope it will continue in that way. Most of the videos of this channel is in German language with German substitles which is understandable due to the fact that this is the official YoTube channel of German Armed Forces but I just hope you will consider to add English subtitles for us Non-German speakers. I like German Army and especially it's Special Units. Great job!

      It does help for non native German speakers indeed. Having said that, I find it fair to have all the videos in German and only see them in English later on, as they get time to translate original German videos for foreigners to watch and understand better. It isn't just that this is the German army but that these videos are usually made in Germany rather than abroad. A very dear friend of mine is in the Bundeswehr, and most of the time deployed to places where due to international missions German is hardly ever spoken between them. Coming home and having to speak English again for a video makes it feel like they are not back home yet. Having worked with many troops from around the world, I have noticed that the little things are what makes it easy or difficult for soldiers to feel home or not after deployment. And not being able to speak your mother tongue within your own army when home is one of them. Thus, I find it better they do these in German and them translate or subtitle them into English,
      I'd happily translate these videos for free into English when they do not include some more local German dialects but I am not certain that the Bundeswehr is allowed to take in unpaid translators for their videos.
      Talking about the KSK videos though, two of them have been heavily commented on UA-cam by real or fake soldiers in the UK and the US, if that is of any help to you. Their vague to non-existing German made them unable to get some of the comments made by the applicants but on the whole, the ones who indeed were former special forces themselves did manage to get almost everything right between their understanding/respect of the skills and tasks demanded of the men and the machine translation of the German subtitles..

    EGB Kräfte (Forces) are no special forces but rather specialised infantry, calling themselves a „ranger-type“ unit while filling the gap between conventional/special forces. The selection program for SF is understandably more demanding. Just telling for our fellow foreign viewers.

    • @auChevalierRed
      @auChevalierRed 3 роки тому +4

      A fair point, thanks. I had been wondering what had happened to the KSK's "Hell week" until I realized they were in fact talking about the paratroopers.
      Still a more demanding area of the armed forces although not normally labelled under "special forces". Having said that, I suppose that the Germans have to do the same as the French these days, and with more and more demand for more specialized troops as well as extremely fit soldiers (although they weaken their entry standards in terms of fitness for main troops), they have to call in the paratroopers to cope with some of the operations which otherwise would go to Special Forces units. We have too many nasty spots around the world to expect Special Units in their current numbers to fill in for all the missions. On some missions both are combined in the French army. Maybe that is why they used "Special Forces in the title" rather than as a click bait, for paratroopers would be just as good as a click bait.

      Army Ranger are SF and EGB are SF too. Not tier one like KSK/ KSM but the have their own special operations without any KSK/KSM operator. There is a reason why EGB soldiers don´t show their faces or you don´t see their names. And the Army Ranger Regimental Recon Company are tier 1 SF.

      @saph5061 3 роки тому +3

      SgtLfk you are confusing SF with SOF units. Neither EGB nor the US RRC are labelled SF units. Doesn’t mean they’re less special, but it’s not the same terminology

    Just for the record, mental resiliance is what kicks in after a break down. So, if these men stop feeling pain, it would be their mental resistance that kicks in. The mental resiliance is needed after e.g. their mession failed, they lost any of their comrads, they recover from being captured by terrorists and the torture during captivity or any other mentaly devestating impact during what they do.

    I suppose whilst testing paratroopers for there running skills, they would be better had more speed run marching contests than only one for just 5 km, as far as I know it’s minimum of 10 km for effective marches operating in real conditions, what to say about other contests presented in this video - they are all perfectly fitted for that kind of testing! I would recommend on doing also long swimming distances too , but as optional.

      How the Bundeswehr treats its soldiers is very different from the U.S. armed forces. When I see videos of the boot camps, I have the impression that the people there are completely broken and then rebuilt. Even the question of why the men became Marines is answered, "I want to kill the bad guys!". This seems partly very unreflective and robotic to me. In Germany, the focus is on the "citizen in uniform," a self-determined citizen who is willing to serve the state with weapons within the framework of the law and human dignity. Accordingly, the tone is generally calmer (except when on combat duty or when you've screwed up).

    • @auChevalierRed

      @@RoninTF2011 Exactly! Besides, on missions the selected few will have to use something else than their shouting to encourage one another when the enemy is roaming around and they do not want to get spotted from a mile.
      The German army is renown for its way of training soldiers to be self-efficient, self-motivated and for small units to be able to think in terms of a task to fulfill rather than in terms of commands to obey to. No need for screaming out one basic command after another as a result. You show appreciation of the task carried out correctly.
