descending is the period at the end of the point they have been making all these years
When you the UA-cam money starts coming in you'll have to get a R1 S.
You got the voice for radio, not sure if anyone has brought that up. You should start a podcast or something as well.
Try a Mike Patton rabbit hole. He’s got 10+ bands, Faith no more, mr bungle, etc.
Hey man, love your channel. Just a heads up, scammers are hitting your commenters hard.
'doing more with less' sums up Adam's guitar style completely, and really is a mantra for all great art.
That reminds me of black belt comedians talking about an economy of words….to where if 2 people are conveying the same point, the person using less words is normally felt more
Hard to believe this song is 30 years old, amazing.
Yep Undertow made me love Tool back in the 90's this is where it all started for me.
hear hear.. same for me. back when the cds were locked in little boxes with headphones attached and I was like, whats this wicked 3D art cover?? instantly blown away and never looked back!
Same here, and I have bevis and butthead to thank
Songs from Undertow always sound great on a good car stereo. I think it’s Paul’s bass guitar with Danny’s drums that sound so good because you can feel the bass in it.
What they said
It's that Rickenbacker Bass. It has a distinct raw sound that fits well with the grittier feel of Undertow.
Underrated Tool song. You need to do Undertow next.
I love that you've been digging deeper into their older stuff. These are the tracks that made me a fan almost 30 years ago.
Digging Deeper? I see what you did there!
One of their best songs that never really got the play time or credit it deserved. Even Tool fans don't talk about it as much as they should.
My favourite song off the album, and I couldn't agree more.
yeah same with Jimmy. Probably my favorite Tool Song honestly.
Ay we probably played this daily if not multiple times a day in college about 17 years ago and even I forgot about this one haha
This brings us closer than than dying and cancer and crying
Yes. This. ❤❤❤
This one is from the Undertow album. This was my introduction to Tool. I went to see them play in a bar called Bessy's Boat House. They blew me away. This album is really raw. Tool didn't come into their own until the next album. Thanks for the reaction.
"It brings us closer than dying and cancer and crying" Nobody else writes like this!!! What else has a relationship closer than those three things? Nothing! Maynard is incredible!
pushit: take care not to make me enter,
'cause if i do we "both" may disa- ..........ppear.
@soth1sol Right in Two: "Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
The song is about butt sex
I hit your comment just as Maynard sang those lines! Thanks for the set-up!
In the late 90's I worked in a ski and snowboard shop here in Idaho. Tool was always in the music rotation. One day, this song was just starting, volume low, and as I walked out from the back I was singing the opening lines "free yourself from yourself". An older woman was waiting at the counter for help and as I walked up to her she noted the beautiful lyrics and wanted to know more. I gave her all the pertinent info on the song and the artist and she was excited to go listen to the rest of their work. Never did hear from her, but I am guessing she was surprised.
Sounds like underneath the skin and jewelry hidden in her words and eyes is wall that’s cold and ugly😂. Was it McCue Sports?
@@itsayswithoutgoing9571 Nope. The Alpine Shop at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
There’s a reason why even after listening to everything by tool I still hold undertow as my favorite album
It's never out of my running for their best.
Yes, I agree…LOVE their new stuff but Undertow is Metal.
Danny himself said that they're an album band. They make sure every song is a banger and that the album is worth it. The video in question was during the lateralus tour, sitting with Justin
4* is Tool’s most slept on & undervalued song. It’s one of the best tracks in their entire catalog. If you like the musical ambiance of this one, go check out “Flood”, it’s mostly instrumental, but well worth the journey. 😉
Ahh... another love song by Tool. my favorite on this album. if you were lucky to see them live on this album in the 90's you were hypnotized in two ways. first Maynard was always front and center back then. his stage presence was amazing. the way he could sing and his (trance dancing) would just leave your jaw on the floor. second was the music of Danny, Adam and Paul. while your jaw was on the floor their music just kicked your teeth in. you didn't have a chance. all you could do was just exist and witness and be blown away. also Paul the bassist back then was amazing. not just the sound but seeing him live. I have never seen a bassist physically hit the bass as hard as he did. you almost felt sorry for the bass. that's one moment in life i wish i could go back to. Tool live in the 90's
The first 3 projects including Opiate is the Tool that I connect with most. Every week in the 90s there was quality music of all genres being released. Good times.
Great music for sure, but I've never actually heard someone say that. To me, the album 'Lateralus" changed music forever, so I can't quite relate, but I appreciate that everyone has an opinion.
One of my ABSOLUTE favorites 🔥👍
This was the album that introduced me to Tool and made me a lifelong fan
If you haven't already, I highly recommend the song "Crawl Away" from the same album.
Prepare to have your mind blown by Paul D'ʻAmour bass playing
Thanks man! I love watching you reactions. Descending is my favorite Tool song too. I am 49 and have been a Tool fan since the beginning. Thank you again.
Polo, I think the one Tool song you weren't crazy about was "Flood" which immediately follows this song on the album. Once you get through the whole catalog and start listening to full albums, I think Flood will grow on you, with the build up to it from this song.. I think you still need to react to "Crawl Away" though.. I don't remember you doing that one yet 🙂
Probably my favorite TooL song…
Good news is that they(Tool) are recording a new album now
Tool , Pantera, Boston, Pink Floyd, slayer, Meshuggah, Deftones, candle box, toad the wet sprocket , def Leppard , starship, TOTO, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, Pebo Bryson,James Ingram, thrice, gin blossoms. Thank you POLO for everything
As I’ve said before, Undertow is a personal favorite album. Still in regular rotation with me to this day. There is just a raw feeling to this album. Pure aggression. I would recommend “Crawl Away” as your next track from this album. It is a taste of the pure energy that permeates their music.
Hey I know you have finished most of tools diskography but I would I think a lot of us would still watch full album reviews. Its a experience listening to a whole album, they are a work of art.
best song on Undertow...tied with the others of course
This song is so fire!!. Just typical of tool. There’s still actually a good amount of songs you have left. I would suggest listening to opiate2 next. Great reaction polo!
I own the Blu-Ray release of Opiate2. It was such a nice surprise, after years of hearing them do various versions of an extended Opiate (live), to see them release a studio version. Absolute banger. Polo should definitely have this on his list.
Made me laugh when you paused the video and said "that was nasty..." For a split second I thought you figured out what the song was written about hahaha!
@Polo we weren't lying when we told you there are no bad tool songs
Yeah, Tool kinda got stuck on great, sometimes drifting into the mind-blowing category, but I don't think they ever got past just life-changing. I'm not sure, maybe if they actually sat down and seriously tried to make a bad song... maybe, just maybe.
I'm the only person I know that suggests this tune ever also the Descending is my favorite Tool jam
Great unique older song. One of the best of the classics
Hey thanks Polo, enjoy the coffee, cheers. Song starts slow but draws you in. Those lyrics are Maynard going double meaning, kind of like Stinkfist or is it as direct as Prison sex.
There is still some Tool tracks that you need to listen 👂 to, some of undertow and some of Opiate. Bottom, intolerance, Swamp Song, undertow, Hush, Opiate and Opiate 2, there are a few left but you are getting closer to the end 😢
Been suggesting this one for a while, knew you'd love it. If you haven't seen the live drum cam video for pneuma its mind blowing. Danny is by far the most talented drummer ever
Thanks for doing this. I wont go into how much i love tool but this is my favorite song off my favorite album and it doesnt get enough attention
Thanks for the reaction.. I’ve always loved this song!
Track is straight filth. Enjoying your videos dude !
It's like the other side of 46+2. whereas in that song you were instigating a change in yourself, in this you are pushing a change in another, it's when you know somebody's potential, and you know that they deserve and need the change, but they just don't know it yet. it might have to be violent, "Knock me down I'll come back running, knock you down, it won't be long now," but if that's the case then so be it. the end justifies the means, because you're doing it through care for them, and not your own interests.
4 degrees is a military term for initiation. The lyrics seem to indicate a change and a desire to bring someone else's will to your way of thinking. Maynard sounds like he has lost the will to resist and is just giving in, but he realizes in giving in he can experience and decide a better way. Also the song mentions returning to what you are used to, i think this represents the fear of stepping forward in either direction. Lyrics below:
Get up, get up now [4x]
Free yourself from yourself [2x]
Locked up inside you
Like the calm beneath castles
A cavern of treasures that
No one has been to
Let's go digging
Let's go digging
Bring it out and take it back in
You won't do what you'd like to do
Lay back and let me show you another way
Kill what you want to
Take what's left and eat it
Take all or nothing
Just too short to push it away
Take it all
Take it all in
All the way in
All the way in
Let it go
Let it go in
You won't feel what you'd like to feel
Lay back and let me show you another way
Kill what you want to
Take what's left and eat it
Take all or nothing
Just too short to push it away
Knock me down
I'll just come back running
Knock you down
It won't be long now
All the way in
All the way in
All the way
All the way
Way in!
Kill what you want to
Take what's left and eat it
Take all or nothing
Just too short to push it away
Take it up, take it up higher
4 degrees now, 4 degrees warmer
Give in now
Give in now
Let me in!
You'll like this in
This brings us out
You'll like this
It brings us closer than
Dying and cancer and crying
Let's take it, take it...
Kill what you want to
Take what's left and eat it
Take all or nothing
Just too short to push it
Just like that
Just like that
Just like...
Yeah....the song is about anal sex.
All this talk about tool being deep but they are really just trolling lol. This song is about anal sex... The temperature is 4 degrees warmer there vs. the vagina. Read those lyrics again
One of my absolute favorite cuts from TOOL!
You still haven’t reacted to Disgustipated. They shot a piano with a shotgun and inserted it into the song. You gotta check it out, man.
^ This. Is. Necessary.
Haven't seen you react to any Clutch. I really think you'd dig some of their stuff too, like Ghost, The Face, Oh Isabella, The Regulator, I could go on forever
Yes. Clutch is surprisingly underrated.
I think this song, more than any other on Undertow, has the nascent qualities of where Tool landed with the Lateralus album. Its still very much the raw and grungy sound with a more traditional song structure of Undertow, but there are a number of sounds and decisions made that point fairly directly to that future sound.
My thoughts exactly!
Well said, and totally agree
now you need to try " Bottom " from same album............tool army est.1993...............tool army est.1993............
oh heck yes im here for it! One of the 1st TOOL tracks I ever heard... and still one of the best!
I love this song. I think it’s underrated.
i will be listening to this song in the gym today, which is no surprise because Tool is the only thing i listen to at the gym lol. Getting my physical work out with my spiritual work in lol.
Been waiting on this one!! Will always be one of my favs!
Adam is like David Gilmour, in that he can, but he chooses not to. The greatest guitarists practice restraint to better serve the music.
Exactly. I've put Adam in the same category as Gilmour for a long time now. Different timbre and sound, but the same approach to how they play.
I used to blast this in my 68' Nova in High School. No one cared in the 90's, just the crazies.
One of my favorites in the UnderTow album
I would definitely watch any revisit of any Tool song.
If you like progressive rock that goes from soft to metal and hits everything in between, you might want to check out a band called Floater. They're from Oregon, not hugely well known, but heavily influenced by Pink Floyd, and there are definitely moments in their catalog when I can't help but think about Tool.
A good first song to check out might be "All The Stories But One." Even if you don't end up doing any reaction videos, I would highly recommend checking them out for your own personal enjoyment, as their music tends to take you on a journey. Be well, and thanks for continuing to make awesome content!
One of their Best!
Tools no quarter cover is really good!
The anal cavity has 8 more working muscles and is generally about 4 degrees warmer than the vagina is how Maynard described the song when asked about its meaning.
What's Crazy is that this was 30 years ago......They came out of the gate ready to crush it!!!! Fucking TooL!!!!!
Crawl Away is another Great Gem that Polo must absolutely hear!
I'm definitely here for the revisits!!
Embrace the hurt my friend. We become one through shared pain.😢👐
This entire album is great
What I've enjoyed over my 25 years of experiencing tool,
After you memorized their songs then listen to their demo versions. It gives a different feeling altogether, realizing how their finished product sounded when they first created it. You can do this with many artists many bands releases their demos, like the song blind from korn almost turned out differently then initially
Do what you want
Take what’s left is given.
Locked up inside you a cavern of treasure
First time hearing ANYONE react to this song. Absolute treasure of a song, even my friends that like Tool never mention it. Just started the video, very curious to see what you think of it.
I'm on the freeway right now!!! Yeah its amazing
I still get chills from this song after 30 years.
this is their "whole lotta love"
Yes you got to 4degrees !! It’s a great old undertow track . I’ll let you figure out on your own what the multiple meanings to this song is !!! Keep tool coming !!
Can't wait for you to react to Hush by Tool. The lyrics are so great.
Bro, I just wanna tell you you have a beautiful background you make great UA-cam videos. You really have a great channel going. I wish you all the luck and success.
Bout timeee been asking for this
Some times I think that is the whole point of Tool, is to be lost in the music and let the world fade away.
I've probably heard this song over a hundred times, but I never knew the name of the song. I just throw on one of their albums & dig out on the whole experience!!
Yes, do the entire catalogue again. “1’more ‘gain”
I’ll watch every single one. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
you should continue Tool tuesday but now with lyrics for all the songs starting from the beginning...
first song Sweat .....the lyrics take their music to another level...and then knowing them and actually singing /playing along and knowing whats coming is even another level...
A perfect circle
I think you should start from the OPIATE EP and do the full albums in order!!
Keep in mind, Justin doesn't enter the band until Aenima. Very different vibes on the Undertow album.
Not underrated in book by any means love this song all tool hold a special place in my heart
Give some love to Danny Carey! His drumming is otherworldly!! And Justin makes that bass line sing it’s own song!!
I love the sound of this record. I think the producer was Sylvia Masy.
There is a short documentary somewhere on here showing the making of this where they bust up a piano with sludge hammers.
Crawl Away is another good one.
4°🔥
I remember you not being a huge fan of Rosetta Stoned when you did your reaction video for it. It's one of their songs that take a long time to grow on you until you get it. If you do some videos where you revisit them again after more listens, I recommend trying to listen to Rosetta Stoned a few times over a month or so and learning the lyrics, it's one of their best and worth not giving up on.
ever been at a tool show and they're at that part in "stinkfist" where you're thinking they'll play what's on the cd but it's actually the extended live version bc it's live and you're there and it's happening and just as you'd think all indicators suggest arena-wide audience participation bc you've seen this before like doing the wave while bruins flake out early after historically dominate season like hellll yeah we're all gonna yell "WELL I'LL! KEEP! DIGGING!" and even as you're not totally certain why things feel "off" you stop singing immediately to hear what the fuck's up sonically speaking but realize lesser fans that only listen to radio edits of tool and only know those specific lyrics for that specific song (their real moment to shine, y'all) keep yelling "'TIL I! FEEL! SOMETHING!"? haha, what asssses.
Would LOVE to see you re-react to songs you now know well....start with Vicarious!
classic jam, one of my faves, it just rips
This song is about seat heaters
Adam Jones is one of the greatest guitarist that has ever lived. Danny Cary is an amazing drummer and Maynard is an amazing singer. But Adam
Jones talent is just staggering.
Dude, I’m a Toolnut since ‘96, know every song, every riff, beat, etc… _Fear Innoculum,_ the one with Descending on it, was their most recent and divisive album; less vocals, longer songs, less songs, no Phoenix Maynard…I put _FI_ up with the rest. It’s freaking amazing. And i also put Descending up there as a real contender for a favorite, and you know how gut-wrenching that is to pick for a Tooljob.
POLO,,POLO,, 😂😂 can you hear me dude!! You’ve been playing most of the UNDERTOW LP ,, where’s BOTTOM,, the only TOOL song with a featured guest singer on it! Henry Rollins of iconic punk legends, Black Flag 🏴
Love me some Toolsday. One of the next songs you have to do is Undertow
I was waiting for your comment after the Maynard yell, "Pretty sweet" works for me 👍🤣
So much more TOOL yet to come. You aren't near the end yet. I might be wrong, but I think you still have these yet to do: Schism, Jambi, H , The Patient, Crawl Away, Swamp Song, Pushit, Undertow.
I think you're about halfway through the discography. Keep it up!
if you haven’t heard you should listen to him singing ‘Know Your Enemy’ live with Rage Against the Machine
You have reacted to Opiate, now its Opiate^2 (squared) time!
I would love to see you go over the catalog again and discuss the lyrics and music 😊
Hell yeah! Love it 👊 Polo
Im sure everyone feels special about their first experience with Tool, Descending was teased before Fear Inoculum released and as for new Tool thats my favorite. "Og" Tool my favorite is Lateralus, twas my first
I swear to god sometimes you are the king of worst pause timing 😂
First song I listened to last night when going to bed.
