What do you think of Alpecin-Deceuninck new double denim kit? 👖
Want one
I remember seeing a feature in Cycle Sport magazine on Carrera in 1993 when they had their double denim kit. And in the article was a picture 'at home' of Claudio Chiappucci wearing actual double denim clothes. Put me off double denim for life.
@@cilliankelly1 but we've seen your sporting it around the office many times...
@@gcn NOSTALGIA GALORE
I have a vintage Carrera Jeans kit which is also denim style, looks great
It seems like Cillian is quite the hit!
He's is the MAN!!! I say more more more 😂
@@BIANCHI1984 Cillian is cool calm and collected . and honest in responses to questions. in relating to his cycling .
Yeah. But Daniel Lloyd is awesome.
Yes, more please.
Cillian is fun!
Cillian is a natural. Please can we get a cycling stats show every now and then. Would love to watch him and Ollie analyze numbers.
Get Killian on the presenter roster, so good to have him on. He was a legend on the 30 in 30 rides he lead, loads of banter and created a chilled atmosphere.
We'll let him know!
@@gcn I bet he reads the comments! Should be lots of warm fuzzies emanating for Cillian
Yes replace Alex with him
@@Maxpower88888 there's room at GCN for Alex and Cillian. Alex is still a briliiant athlete; Cillian is getting there 🙂 (he's beating me on some segments)
@@Maxpower88888good god no.
For the cycling nerds among us, I think a periodic video or segment therein discussing remarkable, unusual, or interesting statistics by Cillian would be well received and viewed.
I used to do exactly that on the World of Cycling show on GCN+
Did you ever see it?
@@cilliankelly1 All these references to GCN+ but my heart is still broken. At least bring back the Stats Attack here on UA-cam.
I truly appreciated Cillian relating his power output to the pros. His numbers are not terribly different from mine, so it really brought home what the difference is between the pros and the rest of us mere mortal. Thanks Cillian.
73mph in something with the safety characteristics of underwear is mental
I don't even see how it's possible to go this fast unless you're skydiving with a bike! 😂 The fastest I've ever been was 55mph down a 10% descent and these guys would have passed me like I was standing still! 🤯
Yea, crashing at that speed would be like doing a slip n slide on a cheese grater.
Hope Killian will be presenting more often☕️ smashed it 🎉
Thanks so much! What a relief to learn that I was not terrible 🙌🏼
Mr. Kelly is awesome as the so-called "non-presenter, presenter". Great show and his caption for caption competition was hilarious! Thanks as always for the great work GCN!
.
He was brilliant!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent to have some Stat Attack from Cillian on the GCN show. Deserves a regular spot. i miss GCN+ too 😢
Cillian did amazing
It`s called Dope boys.
Exactly
‘Dope’…Is that something they take? Like heroin? Please explain. Seems like you have the inside….dope?
I don’t think the current peloton is clean but it’s not like the early 90’s when it was a free for all. What is different now imo is riders coming from a wider talent pool, more places where kids have access to bikes, more talent
Double denim = Canadian Tuxedo
would you wear it?
And or Redneck Bridal gown
🇨🇦 … have done before, will do again
Only in Alberta..
Ha just posted this before seeing your comment. Well done, brother.
We need a regular GCN Stats show with Cillian!
In re Si's dislike of bells, I can assert that I've had many pedestrians and cyclists thank me for ringing a bell before overtaking them on bike paths and sometimes the road. I will yell HALLLLLO ON YOUR LEFT, but if the circumstances permit, I go with the bell first.
Same here. I use a Spurcycle bell. It’s very pleasant sounding, but bright enough that people can hear it even while they have earbuds in place. If I was to shout at them loud enough to be heard, most folks would be offended.
Absolutely. I did say in my message that it was a massive bodge, so not surprised they agreed 😂. Around where I am there's literally 100s of tourists and dog walkers every ride and the reaction since using the horn as been brilliant, I'm no longer into hammering my way along and love the interactions I now have at the more leisurely pace I ride at😊
On the other hand, I've had an 'old dear' hurl abuse because I rang my bell 😵💫
@@GuanajuatoUK Then she most likely would have done the same had you not rung the bell.
As far as bell use on bicycles, I resisted putting a bell on my bikes for more than ten years, all the while complaining that most trail users don't hear or don't know what to do with "On your left!" Often, they move TO THE LEFT. I was at the LBS last year complaining about this, and one of the employees told me that, for whatever reason, bells work better. He was right. I had a bell on my last two rides of 2023, and the bell worked EVERY TIME. I'm sold.
Ah you see I would never shout "on the left", I always go for, "hello" and then allow the person to move whichever way they want. Makes life way nicer. Cheers, Si
@@gcn A single ping on a bell is much better, particularly since you usually want to be giving warning when you are still at least 50 yards away. A ping of eth bell can be hgeard mre easily than a shout at that distance.
The EliteWheels partnership was a pleasant surprise! I have a set of their rim brake SLTs, they are their second-from-entry level carbon wheels in a 55mm depth, and for sub-£350 they are extremely impressive value for money. I've raced them in TTs and even won a local hill climb on them.
we have been very impressed with them!
I have the same and they are notably better than my Winspace 60+mm carbon spoked wheelset I had. The Elite's handle literally way better in heavy winds, and I take them out on nearly every training ride... They really are that good!
I have a set of Drive 50v’s on my Allez build. At the time I bought them they were one of the only affordable rim brake carbon wheels wide enough to be seamless when running 28’s. They run Cadillac smooth with GP5k’s tubeless. I got black logos on mine which look vastly better IMO. I contacted them before I bought and they can also ship logo-free or custom colors with a +1 month lead time.
If the pros are using Shimano Dura-Ace Power Meters they are probably reading high… it’s probably not their true watts. Well documented 🙂
You gotta love that the Director of IT’s computer has the asset tag in plain site.
No hiding!
Caption competition: Chris's shout definitely wins the no-bell prize for shared cycle paths
Glad to see Killian. I'm also a stats nerds, so maybe the pool of cycling's stats nerds is not THAT thin afterall 🙂
Serious power means serious doping I'd say.
Great show again. Killian smashed it, like he'd done it all his life.👍
Absolutely INSANE power numbers by Lazkano! I have never ever seen anything like that!
Love seeing more Cillian! Loved his GCN 30 in 30 rides.
I think the increase in carb intake, combined with smarter training (zone 2, shorter sessions) also plays into riders being stronger
Great to have a relatable presenter… Killian all the way + instant inside tech info
Could be a new tactic. Overpromise features publicly on the GCN Show so then the team HAVE to get it done
Great episode! I listened to it on the podcast and enjoyed it immensely, so thought I'd watch it here!
Killian needs to BRING back the App and just tell Warner to stuff it!
Wait! Killian has a Real Job?! 🤯 love seeing him presenting the show today!
"real job" never heard it called that before! But yeah, he does, and he is ace at it!
Cillian = brilliant! What a great addition!
More Cillian please!
is that you Cillian?
Wow you guys, out here giving very powerful advice re: humanizing other riders/drivers and reframing our perspective to try to be a little more grateful
Cheers, fellas
Killian adds another weapon to his arsenal: ace presenter! And he works very well with Sid!
#captioncompetition. “Aaah! Who put that 62 tooth ring on my bike!?!”
nice one Killian, good work
Thanks so much Edmund. Hope you didn’t miss Lloydy too much
Caption: Hamilton - "I'm Thor! I'm Thor!" (Hushovd); Rider behind: "I'm not thurprised thilly, you forgot your thaddle!"
this is really clever!!!
Lazkano definitely isn't 74kg, just cause the internet says it doesn't mean it's true. Heard someone say they watched some Movistar content somewhere and saw that he was down as 83kg.
I introduced Killian’s ‘I get too….’ at work last week. Now on posters in offices. Genius Irishman. Thank you.
Caption competition- ooOOOO where half way there... OOOOOOOO LIVING ON A PRAYER!!
caption: Chris Hamilton lining up for the feed zone.
Great show guys. Here's a thing I have discovered for myself. If you take a watt count - say 300Watts, and divide it by 10 = 30 - that is approximately the weight in kilograms you are applying to the pedals with each leg, for every pedal stroke to achieve that wattage. Easy enough for a few pedal strokes, but 20 or 30 minutes, or an hour !! Now we're talking. However, that doesn't necessarily equate to monster leg power and massive legs like Mr. Forster the track cyclist. Dave Bedford, the distance runner from the eighties was famed for having the same cadence and stride length when running regardless of the surface underfoot - mud, rivers, woodland, grass or road. He had enormously strong legs without huge muscle mass- but it's that kind of strength endurance that I think cyclists aspire to - myself included.
Haha how was Cillian immediately better at the caption competition than Si and Dan have ever been. Quality stuff Cillian, we want more from you!
Yayyy! I won last week's caption comp!! 😃 Thanks guys! I've hopefully contacted you through the website...
Cillian is a brilliant presenter! A natural! I also didn’t know he is in charge of the website tech. Good work, mate!
Glad you enjoyed! He's a man of many talents 👍
Thanks a lot Chris! Plenty of improvements and new things in the pipeline 👍
Hands down best presenter. Thanks for the cameo pal
I wish one of these days you guys would give some back stories of the framed photos on your set. Thanks for the videos 👍
That's quite a coincidence. We actually spoke about two of them when we were recording this show but it didn't make the cut!
@@cilliankelly1 maybe during a slow news week maybe it will make the cut 😀. Who is the guy in the yellow jersey?
@@jbratt That's Si!
In 1991 Greg Lemond complained that he simply couldnt keep up anymore that "the whole Peloton had gotten so insanely faster". At first he tought it was the result of lead poisening from pellets he still had in his body. History has tought however that it was a new drug EPO. When will we ever learn!
You really think Greg didn’t juice? 😆😆😆
@@durianriders lol Well I cant be sure but with means motive opportunity I am stuck with the motive since he stopped... So as Lt Colombo would say Hes not our man,,,
You guys are all amazing, but I do love it when Cillian makes an appearance. The docs about him and videos are always so wonderful, more Cillian please. And also, any chance you're going to upload the GCN+ docs to UA-cam? Or will there be another spot to watch Cillian's Etape du Tour again?
Hello GCN show…I would like to say your content has greatly improved over the last few months. I stopped watching for a while, but something seems different and I like it.
Also, this isn’t a comment on the absence of Lloydy…which I normally take a jab at him when he’s not on the show.
The two most natural presenters in the whole of GCN.
🤗
As someone who lives and works as a bicycle mechanic in Portland, OR I agree that PART of the decrease in pre-pandemic ridership is due to an increase in remote work. Another large factor is a topic you’ve been covering with some frequency lately; cars. Since the pandemic, there has seemed to be a meteoric rise in reckless driving and hit and runs that have left many cyclists feeling unsafe on city streets. I wonder if other cities have had the same experience. More protected bike infrastructure!
I've used EliteWheels D50s for past year and they're pretty darn good, and easy on the wallet.
Just yesterday I've returned from a 6 week / 7.000 km stomp around SE Asia and the wheels held up really well. Thumb Up
To use the old advert from Pirelli "Power is nothing without control".......could apply to some of the current peloton.....
Especially crashendish
yay Cillian! I just took a look at Strava: I've started following Cillian recently, along with the rest of the GCN presenters. He's beating me on most Zwift segments I've looked at!
21:00 What would work to keep water out of the valve hole - an inner tube! 🙂
Haha, not true!
@@gcn Have you tested it? The inflated tube will fit snugly against the rim, making a water-tight seal. It works for me!
Trust a software engineer to know his forwards slashes from his back slashes.
Ha! I made sure I practiced beforehand!
One of the most insightful things I've heard in awhile is Cillian's remark about using "get to" instead of "have to" in regards a task to or activity at hand. It does help the mindset somewhat.
It's genuinely been life-changing since I started using that. Not in any grand, overwhelming kind of way. But if you use it consistently, it just makes enough of a difference to make you stop and check yourself, have a breath when you might be a bit stressed and make you realise that things could be a lot worse.
Not the one trick pony the Killian! Very enjoyable : )
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well, if we can't have Dan, it's okay for Si to be joined by Phil Collins. 😀
😂
Nice slam as not everyone watched Trailer Park Boys :D
He reminds me of the cartoon character Charlie Brown. And everybody loves Charlie Brown!
Si hates bells, and feels that they're rude. It's all about technique. A good bell makes people aware of your presence at a far greater distance than one's voice will carry without shouting (which is VERY rude.) I ring at about 50 meters away, then say "Hello" or "Good Morning" at about 5-10 meters. It's pleasant and works.
Chris Hamilton: CAR BACK!!!
I converted my old Falcon (c.1981) into a fixie. Forgot that I couldn't freewheel and propelled myself over the handlebars. I never forgot again. Killian is a natural BTW.
I love Cav's interviews
It’s going to be sad seeing his total demise this season. The old boxer attitude is sad to see.
26:48: Yes! This! Said this myself for years.
Much rather watch races covered by your team. production was well done, thank you (from CAN)!
Are there actual data on the power of today's pros vs the pros of 10 or 20 years ago?
Love the denim look. 😉👍🏻
What a lovely and wise man Cillian is, great advice and insight for cycling and indeed life. Great job standing in for Dan the man. Ps. 73 mph downhill on a bike is insane
Thanks so much Craig. So glad to hear you enjoyed the show
Cillian is a star! Such a nice speaking voice, a real pleasure to listen to..
I respect your opinion towards a dinging bell as you walk Simon, but in this day and age were everybody has on AirPods of some sort, ringing the bell is inevitable for safety.
Cillian did awesome!! After our Flanders Tour Challenge - Come to the USA and participate in Gravel Worlds in Nebraska! It would be an excellent next step challenge in your cycling development!!
Ooof, not sure about gravel. I like lovely roads.
Caption Competition: Chris Hamilton getting ready to catch Javier Ernesto’s beer
I think high visibility should apply to cars too. As a driver/cyclist, sometimes it's hard to notice grey cars coming from behind on a rainy day
I watch lazkano winning the Spanish championship (on gcn+ 😢). He was superb and put a nice show, I would expect to see him on the podium more often 😊
Cillian, you did great! 😊
Anyone thinking world class athletes (of any sport) don't do illegal substances is completely oblivious.
Si. A lot of people don't know the proper meaning of the use of the car horn (or bike bell come to that). It gives a warning of your presence and should not be used as a rebuke or 'get out of my way'. The Highway Code says, "Rule 112 The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively."
18:35 totally agree
A little juice goes a long way😂
68-52 front with an 11-32 cassette still gives easier gears than a classic 52-42 touring chainset with a 14-24 freewheel. Go for it Cillian! 😅
Thanks Si for reminding me to replace my bell, as the spring has mostly given up after 7 years.
🔔
+1 for all the positive comments about Killian, smashed it! Let’s have more of him!
Big chainring just lets you ride in a bigger cog on the cassette which is a little more efficient. If you don't need a climbing gear, its a smart choice.
nice and smooth after all!
I was looking forward to a host of "comments of the week" about the conspicuity of Si's ankles, and there were none. Sad times.
I don't believe "Hold my Beer" is the best attitude for a bike mechanic #Hack&Bodges
Thanks Si , Cillian , and crew...Si doesn't like bells rung at him , he'd rather be yelled at ?
I like a polite "hello" actually, which is exactly what I dish out. Someone shouting "on your left" is every bit as irritating as ringing a bell at me!
@@gcn Really?? . I feel badly for you
@@gcn I’m sorry Si.
I agree with Simon regards bells etc and I always shout out to pedestrians on a shared path "bike behind" etc but often get comments like why don't you have a bell. Can't win sometimes...
#captioncompetition This is Maritimaaaaaa
@Cilliankellygcn is THE MAN! More Cillian on camera please.
We need Killian on a regular basis - such a natural! Great stuff!
Was ready to buy Ekar until I found out you can't upshift more than one gear at a time... and that the ergonomics of the lever require you to release a fair amount of grip from the hood.
18:15 in the manly part of cycling - mountainbiking that is - we use cowbells for signaling and nobody gets or feels offended by them :)
Caption competition - You should see the size of the exit vents!
There’s a lot of talk about shorter cranks assisting in holding higher watts for longer periods, these days which makes wonder what size cranks the average is now.
Love Kenny's sweet accent now rock at the Flanders Sportif
Suicide black is a great phrase. Cyclists all in black on dull or rainy days with dark backgrounds can be really tricky to spot, especially when they not using lights on their bikes.
Again, pros are using huge chainrings is to improve (reduce) friction in the chain by reducing articulation and chain deflection (they *want* to be using middle-side cogs because it keeps the chain straight).
Caption Contest: "I said tuck in behind!!"
Caption competition - ahhhh We put up with Lloydy all this time when we could have had Cillian!
It is great to see Killian in the show. It would be great if he did a video about what kind of training he is doing for his challenge. It would be really useful for some of us normal riders who are not and have never been pro athletes.
