those trucks are like the subaru impreza STI and the mitsubishi EVOLUTION, theres a lot of hate from the owners because they are probably sold for their brand but those trucks are really comparable. Yes i know one is solid axle and the other IFS, but for my opinion its the best Independant front suspension for offroading, yah you don't drive it the same manner as an SAS and a lot of factors like experience can affect the performance. I owned a 84 4runner SAS and now i got a recent IFS 4runner that as the exactly same suspension as the FJs and i love it as i loved my SAS yota. But what a Nice relationship. I am a toyota guy but how i can hate jeeps, we are always having fun with jeep guys.
All i have to say is 20 years from now, my Fj will still work, THE SAME, while jeeps will have had millions of issues with them. Compare what really matters people, we dont drive in crazy tundra all the time, therefore, the road is what matters, thank you toyota for making an all-around great car
TAIMOOR T I didnt know you were a god and could determine the future? 6.4 million hmmm...and tell me, how many jeeps are still on the road since 1980's...then tell me how many toyota's are...
I've watched this video so many times and it still gets me pumped up every single time. Im100% a jeep guy. I've owned two CJ7's, a TJ, I'm on Cherokee number 4 and i also have a YJ and not one of them has ever given me any problems.
Mike Hawk Yes the FJ cruiser was based off of the Toyota FJ 40's , Jeeps (short for general purpose) were not allways made by Chrysler. actually the first Jeep ever made was a Ford. The J in FJ stands for Jeep.
Us govt needed vehicle during Korean War. (Toyota) Therefore it was licensed to built jeeps for war 51-53. Something that would operate in mountainous terrain and supply line close to war.
I'm a Jeep guy who offroads a lot. And I'll tell ya the Toyota does pretty dang good for being IFS front end. I like wheeling with them, a mix of rigs makes it more interesting.
I know there is a rivalry between Jeep owners and FJ owners but after watching this clip I'm convinced they are equally capable vehicles that can take you anywhere you want to go. Amazing machines!
I don't understand people comparing a JK to an FJ... They are apples and oranges. Stock from the factory any FJ cant touch the Rubicon. The Rubicons are made for off-road, Dana 44s solid axles front and rear with electric lockers. In the US, Jeep makes the most capable off-road vehicle period, really is no debate. Now worldwide, Toyota vs Jeep is a whole different story.
O and if you do your research you will also find out that they are not true dana 44 axles they are in fact half 33 and half 44. Only as strong as the weakest part. And I am sure you know. The fj has a locker too. With atrac and crawl control it will go anywhere the mini van powered jeep can go, and in more comfort. I come from a family that has both jeep and fj, going all the way back to fj 40 and willies.
doug waugh What is a Dana 33? I know of Dana 30s and 35s... And your wrong, they are true 44s look it up. I also don't understand why your even comparing them, the JK has a front solid axle, FJ doesn't. The Rubi has a locker up front, FJ doesn't, a rear locker will only get you so far. Not to mention the IFS up front has zero flex. Now throw a solid axle and locker in front of the FJ then there will be a discussion. I like Toyotas' but throw the capable driver in both vehicles and it wouldn't even be a comparison.
Sory bro. Typo and I work for a jeep dealership. Lol! Why dont you look for yourself. Dana 30 tubes dana 30 knuckles, dana 30 axles. O wait it does have a dana 44 ring and pinion. So I guess that makes them dana 44s. Cant fix stupid now the j8 variant for the stupid people in this world that is the military version. It has a true dana 44.
Agreed, I've got a GMC Sierra crew cab and it gets around just fine. I have to watch out for high centering but haven't had any problems yet and it's not even lifted at the moment.
Absolutely awesome!!! Just got my Rubicon would love to do what you guys are doing. I'm in New England so I've got snow instead. Great music too!! Rock on guys!!
@Ranger5250 no. they don't clear Hells Revenge multiple times. they don't run the BAJA 1000 almost entirely stock, and they CERTAINLY aren't based on the legendary FJ40s, which are unrivaled when it comes to off road.
Rubicon is definitely the most capable stock off-road vehicle you can get. Once you start tricking them out they're pretty comparable though. It comes down to equipment, and more often than not driver error. They're both pretty kick-ass trucks though. I have an Fj, but love the Wrangler too.
Being the owner of both a TJ and an FJ can tell you the biggest issue with the FJ is the turning ratio and wheel well clearance for bigger tires. The Jeep is more fun to drive offroad since it makes you feel closer to the environment but I'll pick the Fj for the peace of mind of getting home everytime. I miss my FJ40 dearly.
It's good to see guys taking Their shiny new 4x4's off road. I can't help asking, wouldn't independent front and rear suspension work a lot better over the rough stuff? Just curious.
i was given a jeep wrangler unlimited from my grandfather just before he passed away and its one of the best offroaders that i know of.besides our two FJ40's.i have passed fj cruisers and landrovers in both of them and left them in my dust.
I've driven my JK with 4" of lift and 35's 750 plus miles in one trip, with the wife and kids, no problems. Then at our destination went through some crazy snow and rocks and drove back....I love my JK!
I don't care what you say, the articulation on those jeeps is straight sexy. The FJ is a little more domesticated, with a full roof and all, but I've driven both and they're excellent vehicles.
Great video! Has two of my favorite off-road vehicles. Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. I enjoy watching this video, and Hawaii is the best to off-road in! No complaints on the music from me, I think this song is great!
Ya, I kinda wish I could make it through some of the tight places but i love having a truck and it never lets me down. I broke my power stearing pump shaft yesterday while I was out mudding. Took a while to replace but I had replaced it this year and I got the new one free. Kinda soar but I went out mudding today and I'm going tomorrow with some buddies.
Ive always wanted a jeep but i love the FJ too. I was wondring back in the day no one ran a auto trans in their jeeps but do they now? I mean it seems it would be eaiser to do this in a auto. Ive never owned a auto and wonder what my left calve would feel like of a day of clutching
looking at some of the tags and lack of front tags makes me wonder how close you are to a military base. It would be the only way i will even get my rides across the pond to wheel with the doors off.
I never would have imagined that they had trails in Hawaii and then I went last year to visit my wife's uncle and two doors down the guy had an early 90's yota with a sas. I would love to get my truck over there and hit a couple of trails. Sweet video.
i would suggest getting an FJ. i own one myself and hands down it is a very good vehicle on and off road. i offroad alot and the FJ has never gotten me stuck. Never had a problem with it and its clocking 100k miles. Its a toyota, you wont have any reliability issues.
@FreedomRiding I can't wait to see Maui in September, it will be my first time in Hawaii. The wife has been twice though. Super pumped, now I wish I could bring my FJ.
If we are talking stock...what company produces the best off road system available? Obviously if u buy a wrangler or Rubicon etc....u sacrifice road handle and comfort. But drivers, tires, etc being equal what system stock is the best?
@uncleflaco the only thing that fj needs to be a serious contenter on the dipps and mounds is some front lockers.all isaw was lost traction from the 3 wheel peels. I almost bought the FJ but the deciding factor was no solid front axles and no front locks.Though it is still very capable, the rubicon is more rugged for that type of terrain.FJ definetly rules the Wrangler X and Sahara. Rubicon is in a class of its own
@superdooperbuuooy, oh. i thought the fj was built off an awd highlander or rav4. looked like a crossover to me. that would explane why it can off road. thanks
Awesome video...thanks for sharing...makes you wanna go down to the Jeep dealer and get myself another one :) Hey, I see you mentioned the song is done by your boyz...can you tell me their name and the name of the song...it ROCKS!!!
sweeeet video. looks like most of these have lockers, that first siver fj maybe didnt. and that red jeep that gassed it up over the little hill, that was awesome
My grandfather has a completely customized jeep and his does this stuff all the time and he just bought me and FH trails team and it is wwwaaayyyy smoother stock that his jeep. The FJ is amazing but so is a nice jeep that is set up right.
Well done !!! I enjoyed the music and video !! Thanks !! I also have a 2009 Brickstone FJ and used to own 2005 Jeep wrangler Golden eagle !! I prefer the FJ in so many ways !
Cool vid and interesting music at the beginning brah!! sounds like PCC drummers near the end. I wonder how well a Lada Niva would have done on those trails? Alas, you can't get a Niva imported to the USA. KW
Very well made vid jeeps and FJ's are awesome i would love an FJ bit i think i will go with a jeep cause its cheaper and i will have some money for upgrades can anyone recommend a good model to start with? I was thinking a black wrangler X like the one in the vid!
@NuggaStan i didnt see any stock FJ's in this video...just a side note...and whats the use of having a good old fashioned jeep and not lifting it...they can go just about anywhere stock...but jeep guys wanna go further than anywhere
Being from NY i never thought I would like off roading that much... which is why I only got a colorado z71. I figured I would probably only go everyonce in a while... man was I wrong its hella addicting! I should have gotten a FJ or a JEEP
Great video, looks like a really good time. I love to go muddin but my rig isn't as nice as the ones in this vid. I generaly don't take anything offroad if I'm still making payments on it.
@fluffykittynoodles the only real dissadvantage the fj has is that its heavy and the axles cant release. But it can control the speed of each tire and send power to the ones that arnt spinning. Very smart and also has locking diffs like any offroader needs. But for me end of the day you can still spray the plastic floor but drive home comfortable and have lots of cargo space. The jeeps are really rough commuters
@gumwap1 and where did you get that stat?...i used to work at a junkyard and the odometer reading was never taken for a scrap or parts car and put on the title...cause once a vehicle hits the yard...the titles are destroyed along with the car...and ive had 2 jeeps that had far over 200,000 when i got rid of them...and by getting rid of them...i dont mean for scrap...sold my 87 and dude is still driving it...and my brother has my other one
Awesome vid, sick trails, good music. I like Rubi's and FJ's both equally but it sure looks nice to be able to wheel with the doors off ;) I need to get out to Hawaii to hit up some trails...
@OneFabFisher yea, its got the same indie wheel ability. its also pretty good in low end torque. i got a feeling that they were using auto shift tho. mine is auto shft, and the low torque ability is limited some what. its a great car though.
@ 1:58 thats some crazy articulation for a wrangler not a bad vid, and if you guys know more ppl with other types of brands of trucks, you should convince them to take it off road and do a vid with it, this vid needs some land rovers, hummers, land cruisers, & mercades g wagons, thumbs up. and wut is the song at the begining of the vid, it sounds a lil like reggae and i like it.
What island and how many of the jeeps were rentals before you bought them I know the rental co's rent alot of jeeps. I was just there last month and the folks I went with did not let me pick the car I ended up with a minni van. well ALOHA
Having owned a jeep and now own an FJ, I can tell you that the FJ is a lot smoother. My jeep would run hot and make all sorts of squeaky sounds. The jeeps transmission was really rough and when putting in gear it would slam into the gear with a jerking thud. The jeep seemed to lack a lot of quality control while the FJ is built to last.
@SebastianLong How many jeeps do you know of with 200,000 plus miles on them? The jeep is truly a capable vehicle but they simply don't offer the comfort and reliability of a toyota. It's all about compromise. I think a jeep would be a lot of fun to own but it just isn't as practical as my 4Runner for everyday driving and it can still get my into a lot of places that most vehicles cant. Cheers.
The jeep and FJ are fairly matched. I'm a Toyota guy myself and truth be told, in situations like that, I would rather have the jeep because of the articulation (and the price difference). But if i had to choose between a jeep or an FJ40. I would take the FJ40 every time. The new FJ's are good, and they have many creature comforts, but the wider stance and longer wheel base put it more in line with a hummer. Great video although the music was a little different.
@Mark Batarina, what's your point? I cannot change where things are made but I can make sure I choose American made products and that includes T-shirts. I support my country because I love it. And now I'm off for a drive in my American made jeep.
@JackKangaroo1 my wrangler has plenty of room, my rear seat moves down and I can hall anything. I also use it on my farm, Cutting down trees, I use the jeep to move large logs with tow straps, I works like a farm vehicle, or a highway runner. I love my wrangler. I can also go out the the mud pits or the trails and have fun. It's a matter of opinion. But, I love my Jeep. I've had many 4x4's and this is my favorite.
everyone has there choice on what works for them, my 1999 4 runner has a factory rear diff lock.... this maybe common knowledge to everyone else, but the only time in my history i heard of rear diff lock was when my friends that loved this stuff would talk about getting it, i just bought the 4runner for fuel and haul stuff, @ 285 000 km the thing runs like near new, my 97 ford f250 4x4 had an electrical ghost that fried something major cost to much to fix, its @ 265 000 and it will never move again
@koolkona1, Most of the problems these guys ran into was bottoming out. Yes it was packed dirt & rock but they were really articulated. Flex was vital.
@kcam04 I'm a Jeep owner myself, but not the Wrangler. Mines a 1996 JGC. Not as fashionable as the Wrangler but a good old workhorse of a vehicle that gets me through winter storms and anything else that gets in my way. Plus it's got lots of cargo room and a convenient rack on the roof. Last thing I hauled inside was a 200 lb generator that fit neatly in the cargo area and there was a bed frame strapped to the roof.
I've never driven an FJ, but my friend has one and it preforms pretty well. i wouldn't trade my '98 TJ for anything though. not even if you set in on fire and drove it off a cliff. but i don't think there is such think as a "better off road vehicle." it depends on the driver, the modifications, how the driver uses the modifications, ect. my jeep is customised to fit me, i don't think someone else would be able to drive mine as well. i don't think i could drive someone else's as well as them.
Sorry but I'm looking for the name of the song that starts at 5:13... the one mentioned in the description is the music from the beginning but not the end.
those trucks are like the subaru impreza STI and the mitsubishi EVOLUTION, theres a lot of hate from the owners because they are probably sold for their brand but those trucks are really comparable. Yes i know one is solid axle and the other IFS, but for my opinion its the best Independant front suspension for offroading, yah you don't drive it the same manner as an SAS and a lot of factors like experience can affect the performance. By far one of the best FJ and Jeep videos on the internet. Nicely done!!
All i have to say is 20 years from now, my Fj will still work, THE SAME, while jeeps will have had millions of issues with them. Compare what really matters people, we dont drive in crazy tundra all the time, therefore, the road is what matters, thank you toyota for making an all-around great car
well if u feel like spending the money, u can mod an Fj to do that.
toyota is going to have millions of recalls in next 20 years. 6.4million recalled on april 10 2014.
TAIMOOR T
I didnt know you were a god and could determine the future? 6.4 million hmmm...and tell me, how many jeeps are still on the road since 1980's...then tell me how many toyota's are...
but then on the other hand they also have 1976 to 1982 landcruisers and FJ 'S in mint condition and diesel
Thomas Wallace Toyota all the way
I've watched this video so many times and it still gets me pumped up every single time. Im100% a jeep guy. I've owned two CJ7's, a TJ, I'm on Cherokee number 4 and i also have a YJ and not one of them has ever given me any problems.
Stoked thanks for sharing Chris!
Bro, I’m on the same exact count, and every single one of my jeeps has performed flawlessly as well
am i the only one who digs the music? its perfect
Me too man me too haha.... 👍👍👍👍
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video. Uploaded over 3 years ago but still one of my favorite videos on UA-cam.
Toyota always made great jeeps
That's like saying Chevy always made great Fords. 😂
Mike Hawk Yes the FJ cruiser was based off of the Toyota FJ 40's , Jeeps (short for general purpose) were not allways made by Chrysler. actually the first Jeep ever made was a Ford.
The J in FJ stands for Jeep.
no first jeep ever made was bantum
Us govt needed vehicle during Korean War. (Toyota) Therefore it was licensed to built jeeps for war 51-53. Something that would operate in mountainous terrain and supply line close to war.
I'm a Jeep guy who offroads a lot. And I'll tell ya the Toyota does pretty dang good for being IFS front end. I like wheeling with them, a mix of rigs makes it more interesting.
JK all the way, Jeep been kicking ass since 1941 ;D
I know there is a rivalry between Jeep owners and FJ owners but after watching this clip I'm convinced they are equally capable vehicles that can take you anywhere you want to go. Amazing machines!
Everyone is talking like they know their vehicles... well look up the suzuki samurai, the BEST offroader
I agree, TJ owner here, those JK's are really set up well. Good job by both makes, looked like a blast.
Funny. 08 jeeps had mini van engines. Just a fact.
doug waugh I don't understand your point... they still walked up obstacles better then anything else from the factory.
I never get tired of watching this video, way too good commend from Venezuela my greetings
Absolutely awesome!!! Just got my Rubicon would love to do what you guys are doing. I'm in New England so I've got snow instead. Great music too!! Rock on guys!!
@Dwill811
No, all the FJ's had 3" lifts. None had 6" lifts
@Ranger5250 no. they don't clear Hells Revenge multiple times. they don't run the BAJA 1000 almost entirely stock, and they CERTAINLY aren't based on the legendary FJ40s, which are unrivaled when it comes to off road.
you are the only person i have ever seen that is not biased props to you :)
@CSmith4545,
That lifted silver Unlimited Jeep has 35x13.5. The following silver Rubicon was all stock.
Excellent video. Thinking of getting a Rubicon, but have not decided between the 2 or 4 doors.
great video, two incredible off road platforms with great history. Hawaii looks like an incredible place to go wheelin.
Easily one of my favorite UA-cam videos of all time.
Great video! Great filming and I love your sound track. The scenery was beautiful. I wish I could have been there.
@reg428 the fj cruiser was modeled after the 40 series landcruiser not a wrangler
I don't care what you say, the articulation on those jeeps is straight sexy. The FJ is a little more domesticated, with a full roof and all, but I've driven both and they're excellent vehicles.
Yes!!! I've seen the legendary proper spelling of they're on the internet. Thank you sir for not using their or there.
Osvaldo Salgado I regularly make fun of others for making that mistake, of course I can't get caught making one myself!
Great video! Has two of my favorite off-road vehicles. Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. I enjoy watching this video, and Hawaii is the best to off-road in! No complaints on the music from me, I think this song is great!
Great vid! nice to see some folks working these trucks the right way! Love the jeeps and the cruisers.
Ya, I kinda wish I could make it through some of the tight places but i love having a truck and it never lets me down. I broke my power stearing pump shaft yesterday while I was out mudding. I can't wait to see Maui in September, it will be my first time in Hawaii. The wife has been twice though. Super pumped, now I wish I could bring my FJ.
@FreedomRiding but the jeep has more off road options built in or easily added
whats the name of all the songs in this video!? they are all amazing! i enjoyed your video alot :D i wish i was in hawaii
Totally sick video brah. Do they have guided tours like these for visitors to the island or are all of these folks kamaaina?
Nice video. Some sick Jeeps on there. I wish I knew about these trails when I was there, I would have taken my rental Wrangler up!
this is my favorite offroad video ever i love seeing these vehicles put to use
Two thubs up! Such display of power and skill combined isnt found so easy!
If we are talking stock...what company produces the best off road system available? Obviously if u buy a wrangler or Rubicon etc....u sacrifice road handle and comfort. But drivers, tires, etc being equal what system stock is the best?
Great video! What is the name of the o-shen song, and what is the 2nd track with the drum beats...SIC!
Excellent video, but don't you have stock Jeeps or Toyota around? with mods, even a Renault 4 can crowl wherever they like,........
Nice jeeps, I plan on getting a jeep to go offroading like you BAMFS any suggestions?

that looked like a lot of fun. jeep + yota owners cruisin' together for fun = a good time
Being from NY i never thought I would like off roading that much... which is why I only got a colorado z71. I figured I would probably only go everyonce in a while... man was I wrong its hella addicting! I should have gotten a FJ or a JEEP
A very good video showing the difference between jeep lockers and toyota limited slip traction system.
@Zinizzle because it has nothing to do with the locally available toyotas being far cheaper right?
Great video, looks like a really good time. I love to go muddin but my rig isn't as nice as the ones in this vid. I generaly don't take anything offroad if I'm still making payments on it.

well done freedom riding, and what a great place for offroading!
@ 1:58 thats some crazy articulation for a wrangler
not a bad vid, and if you guys know more ppl with other types of brands of trucks, you should convince them to take it off road and do a vid with it, this vid needs some land rovers, hummers, land cruisers, & mercades g wagons, thumbs up. and wut is the song at the begining of the vid, it sounds a lil like reggae and i like it.
Looks like fun. Nice Jeeps. Im a jeep guy but those FJs are sick looking. Thanks for the vid.
Right on Bradah Hilo boy living in El Paso TX own a jeep wrangler keep up the vids like seeing the island views and ocean. Plus miss the ohno food.
Great video although the music was a little different.
great spot, great jeeps/fj's, great friends great day... that looks like a good time
The FJ fared better than I would have thought an urban assault vehicle would…I like the FJ quirk style for town I bet it great!
@dh4life100 thats why the really old jeeps are still on the trails?
@Einhander49 it drives and handles "better" because it has a car based ifs setup
nice song whats the name of the song and thatnks for the video love the jeep
Do a video going into Diamondhead tunnel. That would be so cool as most people don’t know how they get inside crater.
The song is "Pedestrian" by O-Shen.
@koolkona1,
Most of the problems these guys ran into was bottoming out.
Last thing I hauled inside was a 200 lb generator that fit neatly in the cargo area and there was a bed frame strapped to the roof.
looks like a dam good time! lookin into gettin a '95 wrangler myself!
are the half metal doors after market or can you still get them stock
GM Cars/trucks??? What video were you watching. There were Jeeps a Chrysler product and FJ's, didn't see a GM product in the bunch.
you guys from hawaii or do you just bring your jeeps there cause if thats the case you guys are RICH! sick video by da way!!
Finally someone on youtube with a little respect!
Nice.!!! Thanks!!!!
I just recommended your video to a friend that is looking for a Rubicon. He already have Tundra 4x4.
Great vid! What is the name of this song? It's driving me crazy...
Sorry but I'm looking for the name of the song that starts at 5:13... the one mentioned in the description is the music from the beginning but not the end.
