My biggest complaint was just the lets go catching mechanics. If they just make it an option like switching between set or switching battle in the options menu. Also the gate keeping for taking on the gyms was extremely restrictive. The go items sucked as well. I do think the partner pokemon using abilities replacing the HM's should be the new norm. 🎃 Honestly let's go was the only main series game I did not play, I didn't like they remove battling encounters, the limited Pokedex, catching the starters in the wild, and the simplicity of the game itself. although, I do like the riding mechanics and the fact that for legendary pokemon you have to defeat them before start throwing Pokeballs at them
Absolutely love that you covered the art direction in these games. I truly TRULY believe the Let's Go series is the best that we've ever seen in terms of Character Design, Textures, Backgrounds, Cinematics, and overall stylization. I can understand if people want to argue for 2D Sprite entries (myself super partial to Crystal version) but in terms of 3D entries to me Let's Go should be the standard that is expanded upon. It's cutesy, fantastical, vibrant, and full of appeal at a level that I think every future entry should strive to hit. I'd love to hear an interview with Ken Sugimori's take on this one.
I actually have a lot more respect for Let's Go Pikachu then I did when it first came out, in spite of the fact that I bought it, of course. In some ways it's better than Pokemon Yellow that it's based from because you don't have to go all over to get the HMs or weaken Pokemon to catch them, even though that's more or less a good thing depending on their level. I gotta say that I love wearing shorts, but if I had to travel in an icy cave or fall into a mass amount of water while in them, I'd be up to my knees in hypothermia.
I've been skeptical of these games since they came out, but I borrowed a copy of Lets Go Eevee from someone just last week and have been really charmed by it :3 That being said, you forgot to mention that you can send pokemon you catch to Professor Oak in exchange for candies that can increase your pokemons stats which adds more incentive to catch a whole bunch of pokemon :3c
the biggest issue lets go has is that it literally provides *less* content than FRLG, games that came out 14 years before it people can bash sevii islands all they want, but it was something, better than literally nothing
The sevii islands was nothing? I remember them being useless really besides gen 2 mons and that's about it, and no it doesn't provide less content it just doesn't provide the same content
My biggest celebration for Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, was how nice it was seeing Pokemon on the big screen for the first time since I was a little kid. Back then - I used my N64 expansion pack which let me play Pokemon Red on my big monitor via Pokémon Stadium. Now the Switch was allowing us to enjoy either handheld or big screen. It was a nice selling point for the hybridity of Nintendo’s latest console, bringing their handheld and their main console together. It was an exciting concept. Idk whether LGP was just that one playthrough too many for me with Gen 1? But I know the narrative inside-out, and the impressive graphics and presentation, the remaster of nostalgic content, it didn’t sugarcoat the repetition for me. So I felt like I had to force myself to complete LGP, rather than enjoying myself and finishing the game out of desire. I don’t necessarily take this to be a reflection on the game though. In theory Pokemon LGP ticks every box and does everything it’s supposed to do. And I think it was done excellently. And hands down from a marketing POV it was a good decision to remaster Gen 1 to ring in the newest generation and boast its progress. I think my lack of enjoyment for LGP is something more of an inward problem for myself. Maybe it’s franchise fatigue… no longer getting satisfaction out of that Gen 1 narrative / playthrough anymore. I must say Stan… I know these reviews are a time consuming process, and I respect how much love and effort you put into them. I’d love to hear your opinions on Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and especially Arceus some day. If you’re unlikely to deliver those any time soon, or at all, then that’s okay! But the appetite is here 😊
its both an achievement and a tragedy that you almost have covered all games now and until new games release there is no pokemon game to review. This has been a great journey. Thanks Stan!
Just be glad Raichu is even in games. I swear GF/TPC seem to forget it even exists most of the time xD. At least, until Raichu-A came along. I think the overall summery for Let's Go is "fun game, but harmful company practices". Restricting features behind paywalls, or forcing players to play in fewer ways should not be how a company progresses.
Completely understand where your coming from and certainly don’t need/want to defend GF’s actions as of late, but personally I think one day we’ll look back at this period as a sort of evolutionary period for them, with all the growing pains that come along with that. Again, it’s not a real excuse for some of their decisions as it’s been multiple years now, but I do think the shift from sprites + the not as great sales of Gen 5 + the insane money Pokemon Go generated them so suddenly all contributed to their recent shortcomings. But of course the real issue is that due to their production schedule seemingly requiring a brand new main series game every year, I feel like they’ve never been able to actually address any of the things I mentioned and create a real plan for the future, instead just constantly being pulled to multiple projects all in immediate succession, only keeping up on pure adrenaline and momentum. Personally, I’m hoping that with the announcement of a different dev team working on the gen 4 remakes, this will start a positive trend in which they create more time to reflect on the past few gens and keep pushing the series towards the future, while retaining the best aspects of the modern era. Of course I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
I’m a big fan of these games, but they do have some pretty glaring flaws and are far from perfect. But it was great to see your take on them. And once again, Thanks for the great review! 🎃
The best part of Let's Go was boxing the starter and leaving it in the box then treating it as a bigger HM mule than Bibarel. I wish I could turn it into candy though. The games somewhat hard after too!
I absolutely loved lets go because it's such a great introduction to new players, played aside with my little brother and the gen 1 appeal is still there while introducing newer stuff like Megas.
The thing is: the Gym guide's entry requirements only need to be followed to enter the Gym. They don't need to be followed in order to actually battle the Gym Leader. And in some Gyms, like Celadon, Cinnabar, and Viridian, the requirement is effectively the same as in Yellow. So I don't see it as a problem. Also, I think you're exaggerating the issue with Fuchsia. Like you yourself said, catching Pokémon is the whole point of the game, so catching 50 species by the time of Fuchsia shouldn't be unrealistic at all, even for less experienced players.
If the catch system was just a battle system like it used to be I would’ve been pretty happy. They could’ve done a safari zone with the let’s go mechanics but I still liked it
The art in Pokémon Lets Go looked very great, but fuck man, after seeing the new leveling and catching mechanics has made me not want to even touch this game.
What I don't get is how sword and shield look so bad when this game looked so gorgeous. I didn't play it because I hate motion controls, the gameplay switch does Nothing for me, but every time I see the game I'm struck by how beautiful it looks
I actually think these games are better Kanto remakes than FR/LG, as the graphics are naturally better, the characters are more fleshed out, there's some interesting worldbuilding the previous remakes didn't include, and much more.
i know ppl complain about the catching in these games but ..i HATE catching pokemon in mainline games and yet the way lets go makes you catch pokemon actually made me want to do it.. just having to press a button a few times instead of having to go through a whole frustrating battle is so much more fun to me lol
as much as i love LGPE, i think this is the most fair anyone's ever been to the game. first video of yours i'm watching and all i can say is - very good one! maybe even more than 'very', but i'm sure you get the point.
I don't mind most of the changes but once I found out that you had to keep catching Pokémon over and over to gain experience points, I left and never looked back.
I don't have the Switch yet, but once I do, I'll get the Eevee as soon as possible. I'm a veteran since the original Red and Yellow, and I am a major fan of Eevee. The games themselves seem quite fun and a good late remix of Yellow, though I think the GO mechanics do mess up some parts of the gameplay.
I'll never understand why everyone calls Charizard "the golden child", when we all know Pikachu has that role. Ash's Pikachu in particular should have gotten a thunder stone shoved up its... it was particularly annoying in the Sun&Moon anime, because Alolan Raichu is the bestest and cutest of all time, but they kept it at the same stage we know and are fed up with for years.
If anything Lucario is the second or third (if you count evee) mascot of Pokemon. He’s in smash, very high love in fan base in survey’s, a lot of support in anime and connections with Ash. He even has his own mega lucario now (years after Kalos and first and only mega)
A wonderful emoji selection this time, for a wonderful review. I enjoyed Let’s Go as an easy “chill” game to relax with after a stressful day. I played it primarily in handheld as well. Was a nice and cute one-time visit for me. I won’t lie, the nostalgia trip hit me hard for sure 🎃.
Lol with Kogas gym I actually forgot about Erika and went straight there and was like wow there was a curve here but it’s ok I’m close enough to their levels 🤷♀️ For me this game is about catching them all so I really am enjoying it but god I hate battles half the time. Just let me explore!
My team for Let's Go Pikachu is: Angus the Venusaur Rodan the Aerodactyl Sasha the Arcanine Bruce the Hitmonlee Nessie the Lapras Zap the Jolteon I didn't use Pikachu because I didn't want to, I only used it until I caught my own Bulbasaur in Viridian Forest.
I mean you dont have a battle tower but you got gym leaders rematches. Where I become sour its why include alolan forms and doesnt include an alola post game of sorts. Would have hurt to put cross gen evolutions ? Like the other eeveelutions, steelix, scizor , etc
I loved Let’s Go. It was really easy, yes, and I hated the exp share thing, but the world was really well made. The post game was disappointing, I agree with that, but I enjoyed playing through it. But that might be because I was growing up with Kanto. Still, I hope there will be a Johto version.
I‘m a potential casual for this title and tbh… games which have easy gameplay, extreme simplifications, grinds, no challenges are pretty much a very hard waste of time for me. I checked UA-cam, the demo and I‘m everything but convinced. Additionally: i lack the connection to past Pokemom experiences, that’s why I don’t seem to see any value in here. Or maybe I miss features or misinterpreted the videos… Is it at least challenging and a got title to start diving in? Sword & Shield (opinions from UA-cam etc) seem to be a boring open world game…. What Pokemon game delivers some challenges, thought input etc?
Just got a switch finally for my bday and it's a shame that none of the pokemon games look like a full experience. I come in and out of the game series but have loved all the ones I played (red, blue, yellow, silver, fire red, sapphire, platinum) and thought on a more modern system, pokemon would ... be more modern... with a full pokedex that doesn't require any outside features, battle mechanics that were fun and not redundant, voice acting and open world. I don't think Pokemon fans ask for much but like most other games being made, less than the bare minimum is released and everything is behind a pay wall. Been looking at this one, S&S and Remake D&P. They have elements in each that are really great but fail miserably in other ways...
Every time I try to get a good nights sleep he’s always rolling around like a Donphan knocking all my stuff onto the ground and screaming about how great Hoenn is!
I know, trust me, it’s insane. Literally me, my entire family, main group of friends, fiancée and fiancées family are all using Apple devices (aside from my editing PC). At some point I need to pick up a c-type charger just to have one, but I swear I couldn’t find a single one in our home, no matter how many wires and cables we own lmao. Somebody actually showed me a way to use the switch charger in these comments though so hopefully my Mew will finally be free!
These more authentic to the "Catch'em all spirit" of the series than Sword and Shield? I can't say I agree, honestly; they both changed the overall availability of Pokémon for the games, but LGPE's cuts were even more drastic, it's only the framing of the games and their coverage, as well as their "spin-off nature" that made it appear less so. (🎃)
Right. Excluding mythicals, every Pokémon in LGPE and SwSh can at least be caught in the games, unlike previous games where you had to have old versions and transfer.
@@UltraBall23 Oh, from that perspective, sure, they're technically the most complete because you don't really need transferring. I interpreted it as a reference to Dexit, which is why I was referring to the whole roster and why I'm saying LGPE's cuts were technically much more drastic and its "spin-off-y" nature is what caused a different reaction to its cuts compared to SS's.
My TLDR review is basically I hope GameFreak doesn’t try to make this into a series. We really don’t need a series of remakes of older generations with simplified gameplay
I definitely understand this line of thinking 100%. I’m actually curious if now knowing that they’ve given development to a different studio for the Gen 4 remakes, if they’ll maybe give this series to them or even another dev in the future. That being said, if we never get sequels or other games in this series, I think these are pretty solid one-offs that I’m glad exist !
He earned each one in a trial by combat with their previous owners. Once upon a time he was a grey joycon user with a dream. But He's the big dog now and all the little switch lite fighters are gonna try and claim what he's earned. Such is life.
🎃 Honestly after my first playthrough of these games I left them alone for sooo long and only recently decided to replay them when I was bored of all my other games. The games do give me a nice bit of nostalgia but I get frustrated with the throwing on docked mode. I know we've got new pokemon games coming up but down the road I wouldn't mind a let's go featuring another region.
It's a spin off, a lite re imagining of the core franchise is always a remake regardless of what big company says It's mid but more put together than the other games still, which is just sad The QoL isn't really just casual-ising the design so no challenge exist, the kids in the past could get past the old Game this dumbing down isn't needed
I don't get how you make an issue of the partner pokemon not being able to evolve when that was the idea especially since they have perfect stats and signature moves to boot. Also some gym restrictions were kinda weird and unnecessary but the one based on not having 50 species of pokemon was normal given that the game is a let's go game, the core mechanic is to catch pokemon so to mark it negatively for not catching enough pokemon to meet a requirement that is apart of a game that focuses on the catching mechanic is kinda weird.
This is why I try and stay away from going too deep into the music sections in my in-depth reviews lol. I literally am the worst at music theory, knowledge and discourse so to you and anyone else much better at this stuff, I genuinely apologize for my critiques of this section and I’ll try and either be better or more transparent about this particular blind spot for me in the future!
@@RandomTens Thanks for clarification. Truthfully I'm not so upset at you as I am at how common "soundfont" gets misused in regards to VGM and chiptune. For future reference, sound palette is usually the safer general term if you're not sure which one to use.

I'm both excited & nervous to see RandomTens's take on SWSH
I think I would like this game more if the catching mechanic wasn't trying to emulate Pokemon GO and breeding was allowed.
Lol with Kogas gym I actually forgot about Erika and went straight there and was like wow there was a curve here but it’s ok I’m close enough to their levels 🤷♀️ For me this game is about catching them all so I really am enjoying it but god I hate battles half the time. Just let me explore!
My team for Let's Go Pikachu is:
Angus the Venusaur
Rodan the Aerodactyl
Sasha the Arcanine
Bruce the Hitmonlee
Nessie the Lapras
Zap the Jolteon
I didn't use Pikachu because I didn't want to, I only used it until I caught my own Bulbasaur in Viridian Forest.
Wooooooooo. Been waiting for this. You go Stan!
Or maybe I miss features or misinterpreted the videos…
Is it at least challenging and a got title to start diving in? Sword & Shield (opinions from UA-cam etc) seem to be a boring open world game….
What Pokemon game delivers some challenges, thought input etc?
If they ever remake these games again, voice acting will be a necessity. Pokemon games need it
Just got a switch finally for my bday and it's a shame that none of the pokemon games look like a full experience.
Yha I only catch Pokémon for my main team. Forcing people to catch sucks.
Honestly Lets Go should have been a switch port of US/UM or at least skipped to give SW/SH a longer development time
I love pokemon but I was never able to finish this game I'm slowly going through it with my friend but we started when the game came out
Roy is just a gengar lurking in Stan's room tbh
Every time I try to get a good nights sleep he’s always rolling around like a Donphan knocking all my stuff onto the ground and screaming about how great Hoenn is!
sword and shield review coming soon ?
Are you ever going to talk about gen 8
That was fast 👀👀
Can't wait to watch!!!!
I will say, the pokeball plus is an excellent controller for the game. I find it much easier to use than the joy con.
You can use a switch dock charger for the poke ball plus
Dude, that pokeball controller takes a c-type charger. Most galaxy phones have that now.
@@RandomTens oh I've been there. But with the mini that the ps3 uses. Good luck on freeing the mew.
U can charge your pokeball controller with your switches charger
The time has finally reached................
Love the review ❤️
You’re the best Jassim! Thanks for watching and all that you do for the community!🙌🏻
I would love lets go johto i love the lets go games
My TLDR review is basically I hope GameFreak doesn’t try to make this into a series. We really don’t need a series of remakes of older generations with simplified gameplay
I definitely understand this line of thinking 100%.
I’m actually curious if now knowing that they’ve given development to a different studio for the Gen 4 remakes, if they’ll maybe give this series to them or even another dev in the future.
That being said, if we never get sequels or other games in this series, I think these are pretty solid one-offs that I’m glad exist !
@@RandomTens I feel like GameFreak should just let more companies in general make Pokémon games.
This games controls are pure cancer, that alone was reason for nintendo to not get my $60.
Let alone the Pokemon Go stuff
How did you earned enough Money to buy all those Switches in the background?
He earned each one in a trial by combat with their previous owners. Once upon a time he was a grey joycon user with a dream. But He's the big dog now and all the little switch lite fighters are gonna try and claim what he's earned. Such is life.
🎃 Honestly after my first playthrough of these games I left them alone for sooo long and only recently decided to replay them when I was bored of all my other games. The games do give me a nice bit of nostalgia but I get frustrated with the throwing on docked mode. I know we've got new pokemon games coming up but down the road I wouldn't mind a let's go featuring another region.
Sounds like we had similar experiences with them haha
I would love a Let's Go Johto.
Me too but I don't want a Pichu or Marill forced onto me, I would prefer to pick out of the starters and I would immediately choose Cyndaquil
I Haven't touched this one in ages I'm in the middle as far as my enjoyment of the Let's Go games I still prefer Fire Red & Leaf Green.
The character white bright hair and eyes looks just like you haha'
i don't mind if you can catch Pokemon in let's go Pikachu
It's a spin off, a lite re imagining of the core franchise is always a remake regardless of what big company says
It's mid but more put together than the other games still, which is just sad
The QoL isn't really just casual-ising the design so no challenge exist, the kids in the past could get past the old Game this dumbing down isn't needed
Dude, you can't tell me you don't have an usb-c cable to charge your pokeball plus...
Great game. Very polished.
*Modern visual style" *compares it to a game from 2002*
I can see why people didn’t like it but I enjoyed it even as long pokemon fan. I just wish their was pro controller support lol
Extremely disappointed to hear Stan call original Gameboy music a "soundfont."
it was really unpleasant to hear him say :(
This is why I try and stay away from going too deep into the music sections in my in-depth reviews lol.
