Love this scene It embodies the true difference between Drago and Rocky. Drago was built in a lab with the skills to kill but the one thing he didn’t have was the WILL and sheer determination that Rocky did.
Mickey would’ve been proud that Rocky was able to obtain “the eye of the tiger” again and win the rematch. He’d be amazed with Rocky in this movie because of how far he pushed himself opposed to Drago just cheating his way through training with steroids.
Pretty much burpees, push ups, doing pacers, jumping jacks, putting rocks in boxes or potato sacks and using them as wieghts, cold showers, putting a good sized ball inside a bag and hanging it to use it as a punching bag etc. I'm all set
I remember going to see this movie as a young girl on Christmas Eve in the theater. I was mesmerized! I am now a 2 time Breast Cancer Thriver! When I was in pain from chemo and weak the Lord brought this scene back to my remembrance! I used it to motivate me to get back in shape after treatment. When Rocky gets to the top of the mountain and screams his opponents name I imagine myself doing the same! Cancer!!! Cancer!!!! I'm now healed cancer free, healthy! I workout 5 days a weak and lift heavy weights! I'm so grateful to Jesus for HIS strength! Halleluiah!
State doping is a thing in the USSR/Russia, and there's a reason you no longer see Russia at the Olympics or other major sports events anymore. They are desperate.
This scene symbolizes how Rocky fought from his heart, naturally. While Drago did it unnatural he used steroids and all the hi tech training. It shows that the natural human fighting spirit has no limits. You are your limit you can push yourself beyond the limits of technology and drugs.
nah in reality, roids beat natty. Take Michael Bisping vs Vitor Belfort for example. Bisping achieved incredible cardio and had the lowest resting heart rate in the UFC by pure hardwork. He is definitely fighting with heart. While Vitor was on TRT. He headkicked Bisping, and Bisping lost his eye because of it.
I also noticed that in this movie Rocky Was very dedicated with his training and put in a lot of effort but in part 3 he took everything as a joke when it was time to train for Clubber

Rocky put his all into training. His soul, his heart, and family. He fought for a change when Drago only put his own strength to the test. I love how Rocky climbs the mountain and never gave up as opposed to Drago who got tired and quit. Rocky pushed it to the limits!
You can climb the mountain all the way to top and call it success, but how are you supposed to beat treadmill? Run until electricity dies? He didn't quit, he kept going until his body gave up.
@@gamesps9562, not everyone can climb a mountain of 10,000 ft or more. treadmills can only go like 40% incline. Rocky was in knee deep of snow climbing over 10,000 ft on the mountain. This is more challenging than running in place on a treadmill. Rocky could've given up when his body was tired but he didn't. He pushed himself to the limits unlike Drago who got tired and wanted to quit running.
@@Blue_Neptune13 Like I said, he could only run until either electric power is gone or machine broke. There was no obvious end goal on a treadmill. It's stupid. They also showed tree and men falling in side by side comparison which makes no sense, because chopping down trees and sparing a men is not the same/parallel thing. Not the same training. I'm sure Rocky wasn't punching the tree until it collapsed.
When Rocky is running up the snowy mountain I’m imagining running up that mountain too and thinking of my Mother and Dog watching over me who are no longer with us sadly.
Dolph had to train just as much as Stallone to get in that shape for Rocky IV, especially the fact that he's taller, meaning you have to train even HARDER to get that kind of body with that size
This is balls on a filmmaker, this is perfectly chesy, perfectly epic, perfectly acted, perfectly directed, perfectly scored, perfectly edited. Everything about this scene is flawless, every film student needs to study why this scene works and continues to motivate millions around the world till this very day
What makes this even better is that the first part of the montage alone is excellent then you think that’s it but along comes the second half with Hearts on Fire and it just blows you away. Just gives you pure motivation to achieve anything after watching this.
I have to agree wholeheartedly to your comment. When I was bedbound (around 2008) and unable to move for days due to a lower back injury, the call of nature was finally too much. I managed somehow to get myself into a crawling position and used the furniture to get to the foot of the stairs. When I got there, I asked my sister to put this montage on. I sat and listened and at the point where Hearts on Fire began, I stood up and walked up the stairs like there was no problem, made it to the bathroom and sat down. I was absolutely inspired by this soundtrack as a kid when I would exercise to try and rid me of the depressive thoughts. I was simply astounded how it enabled me to climb the stairs when I was literally unable to walk. I always turn to this montage in moments of crisis. Nothing else inspires me the same way. So yes, it "Just gives you pure motivation to achieve anything". I couldn't have put it better myself.
The difference at the end of all of the training : Drago stopped running when it got inconvenient steep, Rocky didn't stop till he reached the very top and couldn't go further.
@@greatest599 yeah exactly that’s the point of training outside vs inside, it’s easier to push yourself to the limit outside because you can set tangible goals like getting the the top of a hill whereas it’s possible but not as easy to do that on a treadmill really
That's a good point. Psychologically Rocky climbing the mountain all the way to the top would release the higher dopamine and reinforce the winning mindset whereas Drago failing on the treadmill incline no matter how hard only reinforces the negative mindset of you couldn't do it which is not a winning mentality going into a fight. Often its the psychologically stronger person that will win in the end given a roughly equal physical strength and skill level
yeah part of it is that Rocky is climbing a mountain (doing something tangible and wonderful of his own desire) whereas Drago's training is like a kind of endless torture imposed upon him by others
I watch this everyday before working out and just to have some inspiration to get through the day. I'm dealing with depression, the end of a relationship and a change of residence, and this scene has been quite an inspiration and I know I'll lift myself up. Rocky is about getting hit and getting up regardless. This montage has given me inspiration and hope better days will come. The Rocky series have been that friend that gives me comfort and hope during bad times
I just realized. Everything Drago does, Rocky does better. He chops the wood faster than Drago is able to workout. He chops the tree down faster than Drago can knock out an opponent. Rocky is built on the idea that it’s all about the fighting spirit in a man, and how much he is willing to give with what he is given. Drago stands for personal achievement, with every machine at his disposal. It’s crazy how much detail went into both characters.
Kind of like Nature vs Technology. Would you like to train in the harsh weather of Russia or would you like to use machines to build yourself up, with no view of the external world (also Steroids)?
Stallone was 38 years old when Rocky IV was filmed, a fews after the peak physicality ags that is normally associated with a human male being 16-35 years.
@@bustercherry6969 Usually a healthy males testosterone starts to drop off after the age of 35 from a peak of ages 16-35. So Stallone was arguably at the tail.end of his peak physicality by the time Rocky IV was filmed.
Just the beauty of us, as humans, facing the harsh elements of natures worst environments and conditions and allowing it to strengthen us physically and characteristically is just highly motivating to see. Just reminds me of how indigenous tribes thrived in nature and also had to come to terms with it is just beautiful and something we don’t key into anymore.
agree, Back to Basics - we know trying to carry a bag full of rocks is going to cause nearly every muscle in your body to burn, chopping logs is back breaking and wadding thru thick snow kills ur legs - your body's way of telling you "get stronger" not have some dodgy 80's machine tell you on a screen - and that ladies and gentleman is why Rocky won
5:44 both men are pushing themselves beyond their limits, but Drago is near tears due to the effort he needs to put in, but Rocky is simply asking for more because he has emotional investment, aka his heart is in it.
Back to 2012: I suffered from overweight and acne and was terribly bullied at mid school, almost with not friends and always alone. My life changed when I saw Rocky movies that inspired me to transform and overcome myself. I began running through my neighborhood exactly like Rocky. Hope to graduate soon and have a good job as a CGI animator and practice karate or judo again on my free time.
Rocky IV is my favorite of the first four movies because of this scene here. He has been pushed and motivated by Mickey and Apollo in the past, but now both are gone, and he had to do this on his own. This is the full product of all the work he put in, facing his greatest challenge out of his environment.
I am recoveing from a bad sports injury, which takes a lot of time. Revisiting this clip, which I watched a million times as a kid, induced so many emotions in me, and surely motivated me. You’re the best, Stallone.

Yes!

So when was he supposed to stop?
@@greatest599 yeah exactly that’s the point of training outside vs inside, it’s easier to push yourself to the limit outside because you can set tangible goals like getting the the top of a hill whereas it’s possible but not as easy to do that on a treadmill really
@@shushhhhh2674 its called setting timers lmao
