Beautiful design and color❣ The cross stitch hand dyed fabric is gorgeous! Just began dying my own last month!

Hi Jan! I'm new to your channel. Have watched a few of your newest videos and decided to go back and watch them all. Look forward to seeing all of your projects and hope to learn what I can from you. I mostly cross stitch, some crochet, but the hands can't hold up to much of that. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Vicki! Welcome! There’s certainly a lot to see and learn about in my past videos, as well as a move to Hawaii! Have fun and let me know if you have any questions!
Feel a bit late joining your subscribers! I've only recently found out about Flosstubers from a facebook group I have joined, and from the few I have watched you are my favourite! I can't wait to see more of your WIPs and more of you! I also have a cat, who loves to sleep on my patterns, threads and WIP!
Thank you so much, Shannie! What a sweet thing to say! Considering how many people there are doing Flosstube videos, I am very honored!! I certainly have enough videos out there to keep you occupied for a while! Lol. Let me know if you have any questions! And say hello to your kitty! ❤️
Thankyou for the video. Your knitting and stitching is beautiful, just love the lace and beaded shawl. The Harbour Haven project I'd going to look fantastic. I love the sheep pattern, so sweet. I look forward to seeing your progress in your next videos.
What a great first video. My daughter was watching your video with me. She laughed at the yarn snob comment. She then said, she is just like you! Other than you don't even like superwash. LOL I love all your projects so I will be watching how hem progress.
Jan, I really enjoyed your floss tube. And I'm really interested in seeing how you store & use your stitching patterns. Love the projects that you shared. I'm just starting to stitch again after a long break. Lots to learn.
Hi Debbie and welcome! Thanks so much for stopping by. You have reminded me that I need to do a video on my storage set-up. I need to get things a little cleaned up before I can do that, but soon!
Great video Jan! Love your projects and FFOs. We are from the same vintage. I still have a lot of scrapbooking stuff and am starting to whittle down my craft stuff in general. Looking forward to your next video. Lisa, Kindred Stitcher
Kindred Stitcher Thanks so much, Lisa! It feels so good to get rid of the clutter. Can’t recommend it enough! I’m loving being part of the Flosstube family. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Hi Jan! I enjoyed watching your first video, and I look forward to getting caught up on all of your videos. I live in Tarpon Springs which is in northern Pinellas County. Sarasota is a beautiful area.
Great video, Jan! You have some really nice stitched pieces and cute finishing. The By the Bay piece is really nice. OMG, those joyful fence-jumping sheep! Can't wait to watch your progress on CEC December. I have had KnitCompanion for years, but never took the time to delve into it to learn how to take advantage of it for charting.
Misty Pursel Thanks for watching, Misty. It’s so neat to connect over our hobbies! If you have any questions about knitCompanion, just ask. I use it constantly for knitting and now cross stitch and have been teaching it for years at the yarn store I worked at and now here at a new one in Annapolis. I’m happy to help and spread the knitCompanion love!
Very good first video. Your going to be very good at this. Your knitting is gorgeous, I never learned lace but I love it. Learned to knit when we were stationed in England. Made sweaters for my children and quit. I do crochet, still enjoy that. Cross stitch of course , your stitching is very nice. If frufru is not your thing it's ok. I do like the wooden things you found to use, very nice. Will be happy to see you again. Hugs Lana
Till the last stitch Thank you very much, Lana! So happy you liked everything! Can I be nosy and asked where you were stationed in England? My husband just applied for a position at Harrogate. I am sooooo hoping he gets it!!!!
I am so upset, I wrote a long reply and wiped it out somehow. We were stationed at South Ruislip. My EMail is lanafinch93@yahoo.com, I'd love to hear from you. Maybe you can spark my memory. When Pop is awake I can ask him some questions. Sometimes he can remember things back that far. We were there from 1963-1966. Hugs Lana
Hi Jan, great first video! I made my first Flosstube video last week and am so happy to see others debuting in the same month. And another linguist! Love your WIPs, you have chosen such nice SALs. I should really follow your example in having less “stuff” because my apartment is way smaller than yours but I don’t handle electric charts very well. See you again very soon! Saho
saho_dreamstitch Hi Saho! Thanks for watching! Getting rid of stuff is definitely the way to go to relieve some of the stress! Going to check out your Flosstube today!
Hey Jan! Several people keep talking about this crocheted Afghan by you. I have to see this! I’m binge watching your channel today. I thought I was all caught up but somehow I missed it. I’m like you...hate the cold! It was interesting about the research Laura did on the different lace throughout the world. I have a lace museum here that I haven’t gone to yet but when I do I’ll definitely take pictures. Have a good day! 💕Tifa
Xpresslifetifa And I’m editing one right now to go up today! NEVER CAUGHT UP is my new name for Flosstube! But anyway, the afghan is not crocheted, but knit. It’s called Persian Dream and I show what I have done of it in Flosstube #5. I would love to see pictures of the Lace Museum! Where are you located again?
Jan Hicks I shall hop over to number 5 then. Thanks Jan 😀 I live in Michigan near Detroit. I don’t say my city for privacy reasons. I could tell you in a private message. I’ve had stalkers issues in the past. The lace museum is in Northville, MI. They have a website: www.thelacemuseumllc.com/about-us There are great pictures on there. A friend of mine in my quilt group told me about it.
I looked the books up on Amazon. Wow he has a lot of books.. congratulations on his sucess and yours as well. your projects are gorgeous. love the wooden thingie
You are so natural, I really enjoyed your first video and can’t wait to see more! I’m going to learn knitting in 2018! I bought some cheap acrylic yarn for “learning” and then will move on to the good stuff! I bought a hank of gorgeous wool at A Stitchin Den in Estes Park and that is my motivation to get to learning so I can one day use my fancy stuff! I’ll show it in my next video but it has me really excited!
Kansas City Girl in a Colorado World Oh nice! I didn’t make it to A Stitchin Den when we visited Estes Park a couple of years ago. I did make it to Loopy Ewe in Ft. Collins though, and did enough damage there for all of the stores in CO. LOL. Oh, I also was able to get to Fancy Tiger in Denver on that trip! Anyway, I’m excited to see what you have and do! Can’t have enough creative endeavors!
I'm just now watching your videos! I also have two sons, named Ben and Sam! Lol. But Ben is my older (10) and Sam is my younger (8). I also used to scrapbook and stamp, and sold for a stamping/scrapbooking company for ten years. Though I'm not nearly as accomplished as you! But I did enjoy it. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. You have beautiful projects! I'll go catch up on your other videos soon! So glad you joined the Flosstube community!
Hi!! Fellow yarn snob😍I knit, quilt and cross stitch- used to cross stitch many years ago and am back in a BIG way!! I was told a long time ago if you are going to spend your time creating something use good materials - I live in Oregon and my house is over run with crafty stuff but otherwise we could be long lost sisters🥰
jonnie miller Thankis Jonnie! You’re going to love History of Sheep! Such a fun stitch. Unfortunately, mine has gotten buried under so many other WIPs, as you’ll see in the rest of the videos. Lol. I have to get back to it! Hope you’re having a great week!
Artsy Marcy Hee hee! Yes, I’m the wooden thingy lady. Gotta keep the terms professional, doncha know! Glad you found me! Thanks for watching! I am going to get another video up soon. Excited and making lots of notes! Just hope I can read them! Lol
Good morning! I’m watching your video & yes Stitches by the Heart does wonderful framing. I get my projects framed by them. Try it. Make it a great day.
Enjoyed your video very much. Your finishes and Wip's in cross-stitching I really liked. I am not a knitter but the hat was very nice and the pink piece was gorgeous. See you next time.
OMG. I did not Know You did videos. Your work is beautiful. That hat is amazing. I hate the cold to. Like you, I also Like color. I hate to say, you have the most beautiful hair color. When mine turns white or grey, I hope it looks as good as yours. A new follower spring is coming..🌻🌻🌻
Cindys cross stitch Thanks so much, Cindy! Yeah, my hair started turning grey when I was 17, so I’ve either been salt and pepper or silver my entire adult life. I have never colored it. Most of my stylists through my life have threatened to boycott me if I ever mentioned coloring it. Lol. I do get a lot of compliments on it, though, so no worries. Thanks for watching! Hope you’re having a beautiful week!
Hi Jan. I enjoyed your video so very much. I'm very thankful to have found you. I love cross stitch, crochet and knitting. Looking forward to your next video. Blessings...Renee@nostalgicneedlework
Jan, to help in stitching on 40 ct, you might also consider getting some reader glasses from Target, Walmart, Walgreens, any of those stores. I used to be ok to stitch on 40 ct with just my regular glasses until about a year ago. So I got some readers and put them on over my regular glasses and they really do help. I do have a magnifier as well, but sometimes the glasses are just easier!
Debby Brandenburger Thanks Debby! I’ve actually been wearing readers for a number of years now, and the ones I have don’t really help. But maybe I need to go up to a stronger level. Can’t hurt to try!
That would be worth a try. I think you mentioned getting the kind of magnifier that goes around your neck. I've used on of those and didn't mind it, but it could sometimes be hard to position and would often start to have my neck hurt, either from the weight or the way I sat due to the "adjustment" of position to see through the lense. I think with any tool/gadget we use in stitching, we sometimes have to experiment to find the best one. Good luck!
Debby Brandenburger The positioning of my neck magnifier in conjunction with my light is exactly the problem I’m having. It is getting rather annoying. I think I’m going to take my cross stitch to the store with me when I try on other glasses to see if that works. Thanks for the advice! I’ll report in! Lol
Thank you sooo much for sharing!! This is so great and helpful! Do you know where we can purchase the Cricket Months collection you’re working on? Lovely 💞
Hi am a part time rv person to I started sticking in grammar school and left it until I found floss tube , I have been knitting for along time my grandmother knit clothes for me for fashion shows back in the day . Any way were I am in ca I have 2 shops one is a hour and half away one is close by however no one likes to get together and stitch so I find my self knitting or stitching alone. Which is ok. I guess. But now that I found floss tube it won’t be so lonely. Love your videos
Hi Kathleen! Sounds like we have a lot of the same interests! I’m glad you found you way to me! And who knows, maybe you will find other stitchers near you through Flosstube that you can get together with. It’s an amazing community! Thanks so much for being here! Have a great week!
Marjo DeForest Hi Marjo! I have my stash in bins. One of those hanging file folder bins for my charts, and another bin of about that size for my fabric. I store my floss in little ziplock bags called Tux Bags. These I hang in a hanging file folder bin, too. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I show it in one of my videos here. It’s not totally ideal, but it works and it’s compact. Hope that helps!
Lisa Linguistic Stitcher Hi Lisa! Thanks so much! Wow, it’s not often one meets another linguist, not that I’m a linguist any more, but I still have my love for languages!
Holy whatever!!! UA-cam threw this at me tonight... and you went to the stitching post??? I think I have some stuff from them. They used to go to the Spirit weekends. Of course it’s the middle of the night so I’ll have to grab the rest tomorrow.
Virpi R A few days before I learned about the SAL, I had actually seen a palette of colors on Pinterest that really struck me. So when this SAL came along, I knew immediately that I wanted to use that color palette.
OMG what an awesome job. I hope I become as good as you. Where are you in Maryland? What agency does your hubby work for? I retired from DOI. I love the sheep pattern you have to tell me where you got it.
Polly - Old Dominion Stitcher Thanks so much, Polly! Maybe it’s because I have taught so much that I did feel fairly comfortable! And of course, I love talking about my stuff! LOL. We are living in Odenton now, by Ft. Meade. It’s about half way between DC and Baltimore. My husband is back with NSA, so right here on Ft. Meade. Very convenient. The sheep pattern is from Jardin Prive and the only place I actually found it was on the Jardin Prive website. Thanks again!
We need to be best friends. I'm a Knitter (BetsK on ravelry). I was born in Baltimore went to college n Westminster and grad school in Baltimore. Been in Colorado since 1994
I rarely comment on videos because I am a terrible typist and it takes me forever to "say" anything. Also, I am long winded and the two don't go together well LOL. The reason I am commenting is that business of downsizing - you have appeared to have mastered the talent - I am trying, but I have had very little progress. I wonder if you could do a tutorial?? Really, just joking, but I seem to need help!
Spend weeks out in an RV and you’ll understand quickly how easy it is to get along without all of that stuff! LOL. Not an option? Well, I also read a book not too long ago about going through your stuff and asking yourself if something still brings you joy. Now, this author took it to an extreme, saying you should hold the item, even down to your socks, and decide if they bring you joy, but you get the idea. LOL. I am to the point now that I almost look forward to seeing what all I can get rid of.

I used to be ok to stitch on 40 ct with just my regular glasses until about a year ago. So I got some readers and put them on over my regular glasses and they really do help.
Lovely 💞
Great first video! Loving those samplers!
Homesteading on the Homefront Thank you!
I enjoyed your first video and plan to subscribe. Happy stitching....................
Pam Lacey Thanks so much, Pam! Happy stitching to you, too!
Enjoyed your video very much. I do hope you show how you use knit companion for cross stitch. Thanks.
Sheila Salazar Thanks Sheila! I will work on that. I’ll find a free pattern and use that to show it. Hopefully some time in the next few weeks. ☺️
Thank you Jan❤️
Great video...thanks for sharing
Thank you! And welcome!
We are downsizing too and I am curious how you store your WIP’s and stash? We have family in Sarasota and I love visiting there.
Great intro! More more more! Prom Queen Stitcher
Karen Korn Hee hee! Thank you!!
Great pieces! Greetings from a current linguist! ;)
Lisa Linguistic Stitcher Hi Lisa! Thanks so much! Wow, it’s not often one meets another linguist, not that I’m a linguist any more, but I still have my love for languages!
Love your videos.
Sandra Ketchem Thanks Sandra! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Holy whatever!!! UA-cam threw this at me tonight... and you went to the stitching post??? I think I have some stuff from them. They used to go to the Spirit weekends.
Of course it’s the middle of the night so I’ll have to grab the rest tomorrow.
Ok... I stayed up. You did foot first shot. A natural. I’m sure they are going to give me #2 etc...
How do you decide with what colour you are going to stitch that Modern folk emboidery sal pattern?
Virpi R A few days before I learned about the SAL, I had actually seen a palette of colors on Pinterest that really struck me. So when this SAL came along, I knew immediately that I wanted to use that color palette.
JAAAAAANNN!
Celia Marie Ceeelliiiiaaaaaa!!!! LOL
Thanks again!
you didn't include a link to your ravelry! I love prowling though peoples projects.
Kay's Cross Stitch Good point! I’ll add that in, but to make it easier for you, you can find me here! www.ravelry.com/projects/JanHicks
Yay! Time to go find some projects for my darling mother.
I loved your video! The spring finish is so cute. Really love the Harbour WIP, and your hat is amazing! Also, I absolutely love your hair! 😍
Stitch ALL The Things Just saw this comment! ACK! So sorry I missed it! But thanks! 😘
Jan 16/18 first video.
Thank you
I'm egaption
You’re very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
You and hubby are opposed to clutter, but there's only so much room to hide stuff under the bed, right??? lolol
Well, actually, we have never stored anything under the bed, because we don’t have that much clutter! 😂
@@JanHicksCreates LOL I have......................to hide my purchases from my then husband!!
