The monastery was built mainly due to appeal issued by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to his supporters in Taiwan to help late Dzongsar Khensur Rinpoche to raise funds
Shedra is a education institute of higher Study of Buddhism and not a monastery . This university is located in Himachal Pradesh in India.
