I think half of those hugs are him just trying to annoy Nick because he knows Nick doesn't like them. And the other half is just because he is being affectionate and is a naturally light-hearted and affectionate person. He does tend to be closer with Nick than he is with Kevin. Which isn't unusual in a family with multiple siblings.
