I really hope you enjoy this project! It has been a huge one for me, so if you do enjoy it please leave a like and share, it really helps! I also written a long description with more details about this restoration, all the products used and also some of the relevant operations. Be sure to check that if you want to know more! Finally if you like what I do consider supporting me so I can keep on making. Join as channel member or check my Patreon for early access and voice-over edit of my videos. Thank you!

Yes, that's the reason, no three phase here... I am looking at rotary phase converter! I already have some of the stuff needed to make one, but I have to study a bit more... Be sure there will be a video if I make one! Thank you
The Trapani Rosa is certainly a joy to use. A couple of years back I found one advertised and picked it up because I knew what a great piece of precision equipment this is. We had several at the university where I used to work. I believe mine is more recent than yours, but it sure was messier. I have restored a few machines but none as “dirty” as this one. It was covered in chips and dried threading oil. It had obviously not been used in a tool room but abused in a production setting. I had to remove the bulk of the caked oil/chip mixture with hammer and chisel! Dismantled it, changed all bearings, primed it, spayed it with filler, sanded it smooth and painted it in the original shade of gray. It is a gem. The original handle that you lack is a smooth double cone shaped black piece plastic, approx. Ø20 x 60mm.
This is remarkable. I have a 'Rosa' drill press in pristine condition which I got for very little from an acquaintance of mine who was moving and decided he had no space for it anymore. I was reluctant to get it because I already have a heavy Infratirea G16 (Romanian) machine, which does all the work I need to get done, as well as a small Solid TB6 for the really fine work (there is a max. 8 mm chuck on it). But the Rosa looked so nice and well built I took it off his hands. I've never even plugged it in, it's still just sitting there (eating up a bit of valuable space) but seeing this video made me realize all the more it's something special. Cheers on the restoration, a very fine job! And thanks for putting this up.
This is my kind of restoration. The machine still has character with some dings in the metal. If I'm using a 70 year old machine, I like seeing it's a well loved 70 year old machine.
my father had one in his shop back home.....this brought back precious memories... thank you for sharing this. great machines built like a tank.... all these new ones don't compare
Cette machine est vraiment magnifique !!! D'une conception mécanique géniale ! Belle restauration ! This machine is really beautiful !!! From a great mechanical design ! Beautiful restoration ! Questa macchina è veramente bella !!! Da un grande design meccanico ! Bellissimo restauro !
Awesome job! One small thing, I may be wrong, but your depth gauge has 2 adjustments, one is supposed to go above and one below. That way you can prevent it from fully retracting and use the other from going too deep.
Hi Meganut, I think you may be mistaken. The knurled nuts lock onto each other and are not generally used as you suggest. If you had one each side of the stop they would work loose with the vibration and the adjustment would change. Usually only the depth of hole is what is important. Yes, having one below would prevent the drill from retracting too much but usually one sets the table to the right height so the retraction wouldn't matter. I've never seen the nuts used as you suggest but there's no law against it. So If that's what you like, go for it. Either way, it's a really nice drill, isn't it? Italian engineering is first rate.
the pure raw quality of old stuff, mixed with the love and care of new components.. This thing is gonna be smoother than butter next to the microwave!!!!
Thank you for the video. Up to the end I could not understand why to leave the old pulleys, but when I saw the frequency converter, everything fell into place. I haven’t seen precision drill chucks for a long time ... nostalgia. Thanks again.
Great video! I have one exactly like Yours in my shop for 25 years now. One of my absolute favorite machines, it´s a joy to use. Over the years I have bought 3 more of these for for friends and shops i worked in at rather low prices. Clearly undervalued on the market. I have been told that they were very expensive new, over 5000 euros. The original handle is a 60mm by dia 20mm bakelite handle. The lid for the switch is thick cast aluminum, switch looks the same as Yours. Motor is not ideal for vfd, it tends to run hot even if You hook it up right. At least ours did, we replaced it. I also scraped the table to make it a little nicer to work with. Also the ones I have seen have Albrecht chucks, probably original issue.
Nicely done, that is a beautiful drill press. For a small bench top unit it looks exceptionally made and I love the adjustment features. Your restoration was spot on, you made it useful replaced only the necessary parts and didn't remanufacture the whole thing. It should provide good service for a long time.
Company made and your restoration work...! very nice. I like it this bench drill. Most beautiful 👍
Disassembleing is quit easy, but I would never ever get all this bits and pieces back into their right places. I love good old quality machines and I'm a very lucky owner of an Made in Germany nearly 180lbs. havy in Weight REMA HB 13 industrial quality Tabletop Drillpress. So it is pure enjoyment for me to watch your high quality work and bringing back good old stuff to its former glory! 👍
That was fantastic, 20 minutes of my time and countless hours on yours! Thanks for the fantastic restoration, hope you get the heat problem sorted out without replacing that motor too!
Wonderful - the machine and the restoration. Precise and to the point work on bringing the parts as close to the original. I was watching many restoration channels here on YT and was disappointed by the fact that almost every one of them focused on polishing the parts to a mirror finish, obviously to attract eyeballs and words of praise. You did nothing of that and I am impressed. A more practical approach to restoration than the 'improvisation' for eyeball work. That being said, I would have appreciated you taking the effort to dial in the drill axis to the base and ensure they are perpendicular to each other. A nice precision machine as this deserves to be accurate too.
The addition of an inverter to a machine like this is so simple and so useful I am amazed it's not more common and that I've never thought of it before.
Very nice restoration. Thank you for restoring this beautiful drill press. It now has many years more as a useful shop tool. Best regards from the USA.
Very nice job and that's a fantastic drill press. I was jealous you had it. Here's a suggestion on the hammered paint next time you use it: Use a "self-etching" primer with high build. This will provide a good base for the hammered paint as well as good adhesion of your paint. When I've used hammered and done this during my boat, motor and trailer restoration, I got great results and was very happy with the final product. Also, if they have two part body filler in your area, it helps to smooth out banged up and mildly damaged surfaces when you're preparing to paint. Works great and is inexpensive. The popular brand here in the States is called Bondo.
Wonderful work. 👌I love these old machines. They were built to last forever. They take them apart giving them love and care and they walk like new. And they are just beautiful too.
Eccellente restauro e video!!
wow the pinion gear hand wheel assy is on ball bearings! its there so that there is no fiction causing you to get a false sense of pressure on the work piece as you drill. amazing
Excellent job!! First, with 1.3 million subs, you can afford new gloves. If not, let me know and I'll send you a box of them, lol. Isn't amazing how well-built machines were from the 1920s-1960s. I drive a 1946, maroon, 2 door Mercury and I also have a 1941 GMC pickup in a dark navy blue with grey interior. Boy, when you close the doors on those vehicles you don't hear plastic or aluminum, its steel on steel- very sturdy. The Mercury was my grandparents and they left it to me because of my life long love of everything old and from that time period. While the other grandkids were outside playing, I was inside listening to stories of how it was for them growing up in the Depression. When they left Italy it was for a better life, never thought of our economy tanking. Grandma always said girl, you are an old soul and born in the wrong time period. When I bought the GMC some 12 years ago, my baby only had 18,000 miles on her odometer. In my woodworking shop, you can guess, yup lots of old power tools as well as hand tools. My band saw is a monster with a huge top wheel that has pulleys attached to abeam above it and the pulleys have a long "Leather" belt turning them. It fits well with the 1778 post and beam workshop, lol. Well, that turned out to be all about me, lol. Seriously though, this drill press is like a piece of art. Well done sir!! PS- use fingernail polish on the height gauge to make the numbers pop. Do wait a few minutes for the polish to dry. Model paint works well to being enamel paint.
Holy crap. This thing is just GORGEOUS. There are no owners for things like that, only custodians. This tool will last for 200 years minimum. E - Envy.
Fantastic job love seeing these old machines getting a new lease of life I enjoyed the bigger drill press you did as well I did my apprenticeship on machines like these I do miss them things are very different these days
Just a few days ago I've seen a half dozen of these still doing their job in a modern factory near Brescia. They use lots of CNC machines, but still have many of these where they need precision drilling done by hand.
What a beautiful piece of machinery. I'm quite jealous. And it's a true restoration - not a reconstruction with garish paint and covered in stickers. Excellent work!
150€? What a magnificent tool! There's a reason why tools like this one last hundreds of years, you can see how well built it is.

Why 100 times dude?
Nice touch using the drill press to drill the holes for its own scale retainer plate! :D

I adore that kind of restoration level. So that the "old" is still there when you finish. Looks really sturdy machine. Good luck with working on this!

Muy buena restauración. Exelente trabajo. Ese taladro se lo merecía. Ya no se fabrican con tanta calidad. Un saludo desde Argentina
One of the best looking machines I’ve ever seen. Beautiful.
What a gorgeous peice of industrial design, Italians know how to put style into everything! Great job

A very satisfying video of the restoration of a beautiful machine - clear and concise, no irritating music. That's a lovely drill press!

from this point of view, Italy does not beat anyone for do-it-yourself but also professional equipment such as beta tools is the best in the world
Chapeau

Making the last part of the drill with the drill itself was really poetic. Nice!
Oh! A "Trapano a Colonna". I work many years with one of this. Greath Job!
Wow, what a beautiful machine! Nice work.
It's impressive how you restored every part. Loved the restoration of the bolts.
I've seen drill press restoration videos before but this is the first one I watched twice. Im guessing this was a high dollar drill press in its day.
Excellent addition to the workshop. Love the old equipment, made from quality materials by people that gave a crap.
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers

Awesome restoration! The video thumbnail doesn’t even come close to showing just how nice it turned out!
Great, great work, great, great video. Thank you!
Quality engineering and a first rate restoration. Thanks..
I noticed that you straightened the tabs on the motor impeller, these were bent over porposeley for balancing.
Bien vu pour l'équilibrage.
Ooops! 😲
The dude who spent time balancing it 55 years ago is rolling over in his grave.
I was wondering how it could get bent and now I know.
Cheers
is this a troll comment? if not could you explain if you have a free moment? Is this done during manufacturing or post production line? thanks
these types of musicless restoration videos are quality ASMR, I'm so hooked😲
And ready for next 100 years 😁👍🏻
Good job
Just a few days ago I've seen a half dozen of these still doing their job in a modern factory near Brescia. They use lots of CNC machines, but still have many of these where they need precision drilling done by hand.
lost for words, as usual ...excellent... no super chroming, just nicely functional
GET A SANDBLASTER AMIGO... YOUR RESTORATIONS ARE TOO GOOD FOR YOU TO NOT HAVE ONE! :-)
EXCELLENT work! Truly.
Fantastic just fantastic thanks for sharing your time and skill 👍👍👍👍👍
Que baita furadeira! Parabéns pelo seu trabalho, perfeito!
Beautiful machine. Seemed like it was in pretty good shape to start with. Enjoyable restoration.
What a beautifully designed piece of machinery. I’m deeply envious.
Very entertaining restoration. You’re gonna need new bearings sooner than you think though.
Fastest restore ever! I want the cafe you’re drinking! Lol As expected, another perfect job well done! Thanks for sharing😉
besides that awesome restoration, the best thing is to see the beautiful piece of machinery. Seems like whatever you do it gives a precise result.
What a beautiful piece of machinery. I'm quite jealous. And it's a true restoration - not a reconstruction with garish paint and covered in stickers. Excellent work!
Another piece of awesome machinery restored to its former beauty, well done
the paint came out SO nice
vintage paint had that pearly reflectiveness to it, without a clear coat

Great work! "Made in Milano"... Greetings from Milano!
Great job! If you kept the old bearings, throw them into a canister and weld them into a billet to make a knife.
Another excellent project and looks fantastic thank you 👌👌👌👌
Finalmente ! 44 ore di attesa sono tante !
I recently discovered this channel and I'm now an official BBP addict! 😂 👍
Très belle machine, et belle restauration
I would have ended up with extra parts . Beautiful work and what a great drill press
Molto bene! I do love the design of old Italian engineering. Everything just fits so perfectly.
Love the videos! Could you have a digital stopwatch in the shot so we can see how long these restorations take from start to finish?
Wow it was in such good condition. Thanks for giving new life to this awesome piece of machinery.
