I mean, if Vergil used a better choice of words like we’ll be their ‘protectors’, ‘guardians’, or ‘observers’, then he might have had a chance of convincing them tbh. Once he used the word ‘rule’, he just can’t distinguish himself from Mundus which was why they wouldn’t let him.
I disagree. If Vergil had used that language and kept Dante appeased, it would not have been truthful. Dante actually earned the respect of his brother by this point, so Vergil was pretty up front. In this scene, he wasn't even addressing Kat like she was there. To Vergil, Nephilim don't take a passive role.
I think he was always a liar and wanted to just kill them and rule alone, that’s why he was standing around for nothing instead of turning off the gate. Waiting for mundus to hopefully eat Dante.
@AutomaticWriting Personally I still think that a sequel should happen. Not with the previous intention of replacing the originals but instead to be released along side them. like for example: between DMC 5 and 6 we get DmC 2. I just think the way it took everything we knew about Devil May Cry and flipped it into a new take was very interesting. There was something to what the reboot was trying to depict and as you mentioned some of it has very clearly bled over into DMC 5. I love the og DMC series, I've played through all of them and im looking forward to the next entry but I think DmC had something worth revisiting and I would want to see it given another shot.

I never understood where Vergil was wrong here.. he wanted to start a society, that was it.. a society where the world can finally live in peace instead of being enslaved & in fear by the ruling of demons. The only thing I can think of is Dante believing Vergil isn’t fit to president the entire country
maybe it was the way he was saying it he wanted to rule over the humans he shouldve just said it in a different way it just comes off as "fuck humans im in charge now"
I believe that Vergil wanted to rule over the humans because of the line "The path is clear for us to rule". Dante wanted humans to be ruled by humans. Not with angels, demons, or even nephilims. A total freedom from other beings.
Why would Vergil BE the great ruler? He's an ordinary youngster with power to control people. Literally like Mundus. The petty man does petty things with power. The problem with making such conflicts (like alien race saying humans are inferior, or demons, or any) look plausible is fictional conscious beings are all based off humans, just with cooler abilities. So it makes no sense here that Vergil is thinking of himself as of better ruler than humans. He literally is a human with cool powers. Nothing else. But the game wants us to think it's somewhat complicated there and demons are different.
If only they did this DMC differently. Make their names different (not Dante, Vergil, Sparda, Eva or Mundus), making a whole different conflict yet the same outcome, which is demons invasion, make them work with the actual Devil Hunters we know. That way, we'll have more playable characters in DMC franchise. That's just my opinion, tho.
