The best rock single ever. It's not about love and soft nights in each other's arms: it's about lust and wild passion. It's got a pounding bass line with power cords, has a screaming guitar lead over them, and finishes with a primal scream. Lust, passion and sex,----you know, rock n roll.
I'm from Donnies hometown, and loved this song so much that Leah became my daughters middle name. Donnie has another song about another woman Named Agnes. Also a great tune.
"His taste in synths was great" Yep, use of the Moog at the end was pretty epic back then. Donnie Iris had a lot of other great songs, not just this one.
I live an hour east of Pittsburgh and Donnie is considered local talent. He reminds me a bit of the Tubes. I have a niece named Leah. Maybe it’s because of this song. I hadn’t thought of that before. Hmmm.
LOVE this one, have since it was new. He also sings the 1970 hit by the Jaggerz called The Rapper , check it out. It's not Rap in the dialogue music genre sense, was before that.

Ellwood City! I’m in New Castle. I spent a huge part of my childhood in Ellwood. Church, a girlfriend, and at Ewing Park!
I grew up in Pittsburgh and loved all his music and got to see him a few times. His vocal range at the end is astonishing!
This is the first song I ever played on the air as a radio DJ.
He was all over MTV in the very beginning. This song and Love is Like a Rock saw rotation and he was also on the live concerts late at night.
I remember
Great tune, loved the screaming vocals at the end!!!
Funny thing...Donnie Iris's biggest hit (3 top 40 hits) was a song called "My girl" which made it to #25 on the hot 100.
I was in 8th grade when this came out, and I bought it on a 45. Still a catchy song!
A lifelong favorite!
A banger in the early 80s i was 13!!+

Try "Love Is Like A Rock" from Donnie Iris. Also, "Go For Soda" from Kim Mitchell.
Check out "The Rapper" by The Jaggerz. Donnie's first band, Back then, rap meant to talk. 😀
One of Pittsburgh’s finest!

When Rock was Rock
He got financially screwed over and didn't recover in time to take advantage of the hit, I believe.
