- I was out driving when I spotted this injured blue jay sitting in a tree. after looking it over it turns out it had a broken wing and unfortunately it had to be put down.

Can't tell you how many times I've played this video loud to attract blue Jay's in my yard. They go crazy looking for it lol. New Orleans here
They are quite loud, almost as much noisy as their Eurasian siblings which also scream a lot. I once moved juvenile eurasian jay from parking lot back to its nest and the screaming was audible across whole neighborhood 📣

I have a same situation at hand. This one hops, can't fly. It's in my garage now
Well...I am way too late, but that is what the vets are for and they can take x rays and make an educated decision. In my area, there is a hotline and they can even find a person that will pick them up and take them to the vet.
Awwww man. I'm sure someone would have loved to take care of it and possibly use it for educational purposes since it couldn't fly. I know they can't be kept as pets due to a bird protection law, but if the other option is to put it down... Ehhhhhh.

There is one in my yard that hops on the ground with one wing half way open. He seems slow but eating all the peanuts I put outside. Tried to catch it and it ran away
So glad you took it to a rehabber. I was wondering if you put it down until 1:09 when you said rehabber. Damn! Why kill it? Couldn't it be an ambassador bird? I'm trying to learn myself. If it could still walk and eat, I would adopt him/her as long as it would want to live. But then again, people might get the crazy idea that they would want a blue jay too. I took a squirrel to a rehabber and I know they killed it, but they didn't admit it. I was just so upset because my neighbor's cat crippled it, and I know that the vet didn't want to be seen as anti-cat. So for public relations, they didn't admit to it. I'm glad you cared enough to take the time to do what you thought was right. I also sent a pigeon to a rehabber this May for a broken wing. I've been where you were. BTW, I'm friends with at least 3 blue jays and I love them so much...they are the highlight of my day when they visit.
Euthanizing it is such a shame, I'm sure it could have found a new life with someone else. Heartbreaking video.

no, the bird was already hurt before since it got stuck. The birds also making that sounds cuz hes scared and a warning call to other birds.
As bittersweet as the ending was, you made the best decision you could’ve. That Blue Jay is no longer in any pain, nor was its suffering prolonged. It didn’t deserve to suffer with a permanent injury until it starved to death or was mercilessly killed by a predator.

You could just lied. Hell I wouldve taken the bird. Heck why not it could still eat, I don't get it. maybe clip the other wing too or something I don't know. I don't know anything about that kind of stuff but it could be like a duck or chicken and just hang out they're smart as ef
