Hey Bob & Brad! Love you guys! Thanks for exposing me to the Knees Over Toes Guy. I initially thought he was completely insane, but I started taking him seriously after you interviewed him. I've been following his program for 1 month now and I have experienced a BIG decrease in my knee pain. This is literally changing my life and my fitness. Thank you!

I check into Bob & Brad's channel now & again out of interest. I am 79 years into my prime & try to maintain physicality as much as possible. I have followed these guys for years out of curiosity & their humor & delivery is great. However after a lifetime of body destroying activity & re-education I have never received much real help from any of the many PTs I have ever dealt with. I have great respect for Bob & Brad because they help the average Joe with good advice. A short while ago I came across Ben & his opposite take to any advice I was ever given & have had amazing results in very short time span. My reason for writing this is to show respect for Bob & Brad who, like me, formerly believed in the myth of never putting knees over toes & were willing to explore new ideas & change their minds - respect!

Well they had this study from the 1960's or 70's showing more "shear force" at the knee, with knee beyond toe which is true and just said avoid it or that's what most took away from the paper which didn't exactly say that.
It does put a lot of force on the knee but carefully built up to and applied that might be okay is the idea put forward here.
Be careful, the progressions exist for a reason even the advocates of this say!
It's still controversial so consider that.
Don't just jump into it and attempt sissy squats, for example and if something hurts don't do it.
Experts currently disagree so I'm just expressing the rationale not endorsing any school of thought per se.
      You get this a lot.
If you do good mornings you could injure your lower back but some carefully use it to strengthen their lower back...some say start with a broomstick and some say just don't do it, period!
Different people including experts hold to different schools of thought and the consensus isn't always right.
I describe the way it is I don't advocate anything for everyone
      I am not an expert.

Looks like I'm late to the party on this topic but with my bad knees, I was willing to try anything. Orthopedics told me I still have too much cartilage for a replacement. I watched and tried the backward walking with sled, and the result in 48 hrs is nothing short of amazing. I'm encouraged and will see if it works long term.

This cements Bob and Brad in my mind as the best in the business that you can take advice from. Because they can marry their degrees with their clinical knowledge with the ongoing evolution of physical therapy/strengthening happening outside brick and mortar clinics. Kudos to everyone here.

Searched for this because my left knee has been hurting every day. Had surgery years ago for miniscus tear. Airrosti recently showed me what was going on, and gave me great stuff to make it feel better. However, the pain kept creeping back up, because I didn’t have anything preventive to strengthen my knees, so I did these exercises just now and it already feels better. I’m really really shocked right now. Thank you for posting this!!

Just wanted to share my experience. In January got reared ended like 60-70 mph at a red light and part of my cartilage ripped since my knee twisted. Went countless times to PT and Chiro, when I stumbled around this knees over toes program. Doctor had said surgery. With a combination of PT exercises that I still do, along with Chiro appointments sometimes, and the program; my knee has felt way better and starting to do run again. Walking backwards helps too, do at least ten min every other day at the track. Great video as always! Going the conservative way and hoping able to avoid surgery going this route

However nothing like before. I will move on to the next excercise program once the one I’m doing feels 100% pain free. Which feels like a 1 or 2 out a 10 point scale. So almost moving on to the next one. Walking backwards helps too, for like ten min every other day

so cool you also agree with the kneesovertoesguy! i have been doing his exercises to protect my knees as a runner and have to say they work... just got the roman chair/hyperextension machine for strengthening my posterior chain, too, seeing that he is recommending it. and the wall anchored elastic bands. all i need to supplement my running. (also, i would advise your viewers to check how he explains the ATG split squats as i am not sure you have explained them well here. f.e. the knee never touches the floor. the front foot can be on different heights of blocks, chairs, etc. in the zero program as it is much easier and allows for full range of motion. the front heel can be on the floor as well as elevated- 2 different versions). excelent video!!! thank you!!!

Hi, I work in physical therapy, and what Ben is talking about is using a light enough weight that you OWN the movement through the entire range. Problems occur with overloading, and then jerking to complete the movement. The stretch occurs with the eccentric (lowering) movement through the entire posterior chain.

The first step is to realize that our modern sedentary lifestyles and postures cause our joints to weaken, shrink and lose capability - the "sitting disease." The second step is to start correcting that in a very measured, careful, progressive way. Ben Patrick's stuff does that. It is amazing how fast it comes back when you take your time and gradually increase strength and range of motion. I'm 59, had meniscus repair two years ago, and conventional PT never restored full ROM in that knee. The ATG program has been amazing. ATG Knee Zero - simple stuff, bodyweight only, using assistance wherever needed, never working through pain - is where you want to start.

a great way to regress with the split squat is to put your front foot up higher. you can also hang a band from a pull up bar and use that to help slowly lower yourself. one thing to remember is to try to straighten the back leg if you can. always work in pain free function. best wishes

Ultimately the body is a machine with the ability to heal itself to some degree. I think it would be interesting to interview a mechanical engineer explaining the destructive force put on the knee when it is bent at an acute angle. When they design structures and machinery, they have to keep that wear and tear in mind. Seems like there is a formula using the weight of the structure and angle of the joint to determine pressure on the joint. Maybe I'm wrong but seems like it puts a sheering force on the cartilage. Once the cartilage is worn away the joint experiences pain. While the knee can bend at an acute angle it comes with an orthopedic cost. The cost is unnoticeable at first but excruciating by the time you realize you've worn out the cartilage.

Nobody has ever gotten stronger at something by avoiding it, and it always results in getting weaker at that motion which makes you even more prone to injury. The fitness profession has too many "never do this exercise or motion" rules. In stead they should tell people that doing a particular exercise works a particular set of muscles and that some people need to be aware of the risks of overdoing something, and that they need to progressively work to improve it rather than avoid it.

It is not clear from this video whether these exercises are suitable for people with moderate knee OA. I am assuming yes, **IF** it feels comfortable. My best guess is that it's not intended to overwork. So try doing the various exercises and when it starts to feel uncomfortable make a note and ever couple weeks increase from that minimum point. A good multiplier is always 3. So 3 sets of 8 or 10 etc. You should see incremental increases in muscle durability as well as strength. Then change the multiplier to 4 and 5 to increase the value and gain of each workout. Happy knees, Happy life. Best of luck.

I am so excited that my two most famous physical therapists on the internet have found and are teaching the "knee over toes" guy. I have four joints that have needed to be replaced for the last 10 years (I am in my mid 60s) due to osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and stickler syndrome (which affects all the collagen in the body), I cannot do the surgeries, (nor do I want to). These PTs and people like knee over toes guy, are keeping me healthy regardless. Thank you so much. I love you all. You give people like me hope. God Bless.

I have been to a physio about my knees. I'm in extreme pain. She said I need to knees replacements. L) knee only 90° and R) worst and can't straighten them. I been doing my own exercise in a heat pool nearly 7 Day a week. I have more movement and can get off a chair easier, but pain so bad I can't sleep. I going try these exercises in the pool. I'm only 52. I was taxi driver for over 20 years driving 12 to 16 hours a night 6 nights a week. I studied to be registered nurse finish in 2018 and list a lot of weight. But it was the real start in my knee pain. I had pain b4, but not like this.
