I don’t have any ideas for other interfaces but I would love to see a Song... i mean a Song that mirrors this Complete Robot Build (Deadmau5) Sometimes things get Complicated: m.ua-cam.com/video/z4Yq83vIfqE/v-deo.html there Are the Visuals, different Slow and Smoth movements, and also a god Song to interact with people... (I really would like to see that) but I know that this song would have some Copyright issues 😣
OSC, MIDI and DMX! You're a glutton for protocol punishment! Love it! I'm more comfortable with Reaper especially for the price and its integration with OSC but I hear good things about Ableton.
All children would enjoy a BIG red button that does something big happen. It could make all the lights turn red (including the robot eyes) and make the robot wave it's arms all over the place or something. Although it would need to be restricted so that it didn't get pushed all the time. Maby every 30sec and there would be a display next to it that showed the count down to when it can get pressed because that would make it more exciting. This setup you are macking is awsome! Keep up the good work!!
I think I'd be cool to give the audience control of the robots, but still have other motions that they are mixed with that are synced with the music with the dance moves that you mentioned. For example you could have the arms dancing to a beat, but the control nobs move the hands right or left over all, or up and down. Though, that might be difficult, since I don't know if you want to do the full inverse kinematics on these robots. You could also have several different arm dance moves that you could cycle though with buttons or a dial.
yeah, looking like some dance routines linked to beats would be a great way to work with that button pad, This is becoming a great show and teaching tool.
I feel like I'm missing something here - does James actually... play DJ sets? It seems like he's built most of the staging for a Deadmau5 gig here, which is still cool in its own right, but it's all framed around "the audience at a live show can do this". Are there live shows for this to appear at?
Poka-yoke my friend. My bet is kids will think those rotating controls are buttons and will try bashing them. You want the design itself to indicate to the user how it is to be used.
Strange to hear your using DMX, as in the theatrical setting such as what I work in, it's a big no-no to have mechanical aspects run off of DMX, because of it's a tendency to fail and spaz out lights, which is translated to sparatic mechanical movement, creating safety concerns. I'm sure that these robots will only be used in a safe way, but it's still slightly nerving to see lol
Thanks for the super fast reply James, when you are printing in PLA how much do you allow for shrinkage? I have a Lulzbot mini, which I bought due to watching your channel.
Hi James are these robot going to be in hms sultan at any point and well to be for getting mantis of the trailer I was the old that was in the navy blue overalls if you want to know who I was and I love your videos they are amazing
Google DMX512. When people who are doing light shows for concerts and stuff control the lights, they use a system with a lot of buttons and sliders, kinda like how you probably have seen people do when they mix music. This all has to be controlled somehow with a protocol from the mixer board to the light. What he is doing here is basically hooking in on that system and doing the same thing but from software.
@@Happeloy thanks for the answer. I have worked with dmx lighting systems and with sound boards, so I know what they are. But his lights are out of sync and I can't see any changes when he uses his controls
I don't believe kids will be happy with the delay in function to keep up with the beat. They will think it's not working. A giant instant fart button would be far more appropriate, and would be the button they would all want to control. Big flashy lights and whistles and bangs that happen as soon as the button is pushed would make kids happy. I love what you've done, but I'm old and boring..so there's that.
I think there is one great problem with your controllers for using them in concerts: If they are able to be controlled by the audience, i think they should be alcohol proof... otherwise it won't end great I think.
@@jamesbruton Okay, that makes it far less of a concern - hopefully. Can you also book hem for birthday parties if you have no friends or social contacts?
What other interfaces would *YOU* like to use to control my robot show?
An online forum, but with bad sanitizing so we can hack it
what about a robotic arm which copy your hand movements 🤔😙😙😙😙
Kinect or like motion tracking possibly?

Why not try running QLC+ on a raspberry pi, they do an edition for it.

What happened to openDog? So much more interesting than simplistic animatronics.
That’s exactly the comment I came here to make.

3:52 Arduino has an constrain function, makes the whole code look a bit neater ;)

How about a camera mounted on the robot's head feeding VR Goggles so you can see from the robot's perspective?
