  • It's a hot one this week... and wow, some of the jobs seem so much harder working in it.
    But we work around it by getting up a bit earlier and scheduling jobs around the heat of each day.
    However, little Peanut is struggling again. And it appears to be a mild fever.
    Meanwhile, I've been working behind the scenes learning Shopify, and getting the website set up for a 'soft launch' hopefully next week!

It would certainly draw more viewership to the Merch Store, show examples and get to see some of our favorite people in the process, Can't beat it! This gets my vote 1000%

      f you are putting the cages on later, you can wind surveyors string around the tomato plant to compress the leaves and stems so you can slip the cage over and then just pull off the string... gently and slowly. I always put mine on early as well to avoid breakage.

    MERCH LAUNCH SUGGETIONS: Sandi, I sold on Amazon, eBay and eCrater until my chronically ill body couldn't do it anymore (almost 20 years). DO NOT TAKE YOUR PICTURES ON THE FLOOR. I have seen so many photos of product on floors, the bare floor and you can see the person's junk on the floor, a dog or two, etc. No one wants to buy somethong that has been on the floor and it is usually very obvious that they did. I would suggest handing it on the wall behind you that has strips of wood and coat hooks. Also you weighed a box and then a hat. That was a big box. I know from compliants from other sellers that Canadian Post is expensive so the lighter the weight of your outgoing packages the better. Unless someone is buying 10-20 t-hirts, they would all fit easily into a bubble envelope or a Tyveck one.Hats I could see going in a small box as the envelope could squash the brim big time in transit through the mail. I hope you are not offended that I spoke up. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Also - Sandi’s “Arms day at the gym” is pulling 1000 feet of drainage tubing into position, and then flipping Ewes for vaccination and hoof trimming. The woman has guns (muscle - not actual). You and Mark are just warriors with what you do in 24 hours. SUCH hard workers. Your Merch is awesome, Sandi. I’m sure the Launch will go great. Jess’ garden is really growing fast. I have a wild ground cherry bush(?) growing where my tomatoes used to be, it came up after we dumped the compost there. I didn't put a cage on it, thinking there's no way it would make it. Two years later, it's three feet tall. I used a decorative fence section to hold it up😂

    It was so funny watching the ewes eat when we had sheep, they were ALWAYS pushing in to get to the feed trough because they thought the feed was better in front of someone else and at the end of the trough that they had just left was usually empty of sheep and because everyone thought the grass was greener further along the trough there would sit some nice feed and when one of them discovered it they would start the battle all over again. 💐💚🙃 🤭

      Any thoughts on just wearing them out with the sheep? I like on the person images when shopping. And I’ve been photographing my own work for 20 years. Sure it would be better with a professional but 99% of the time, for a small business it’s really not in the budget and time span.

    Another vote for put the tomato cages on when you first plant. I usually forget, then battle bushy plants. This year I put cages on when I planted, hoping to protect them from our pesky deer. I know deer don't like tomatoes. They still like to bite the tops off and spit them out. Now it's just making sure the growing plant is in the cage. Much easier!

  • @teresacoffman5529
    @teresacoffman5529 7 днів тому +4

    Two suggestions. Place the tomato cages over the plants when you plant the tomatoes. Place the board on an angle with the top higher to avoid a glare when taking photos of the merch.

    Tips for growing tomatoes. If you sprinkle a couple tablespoons of sugar around the base of the tomato plant, the tomatoes will be sweeter and less acidic.
    If you have issues with blossom end rot, you can buy calcium pills from any pharmacy. I push 3 pills directly into the dirt about an inch from the stem of the plant. The pills will slowly desolve over the summer and be a constant source of calcium for the plants.
    Also, you can sprinkle a 1/4 cup of Epsom salt around the base of each plant. Tomatoes love magnesium.

    • @elainerempel1613
      @elainerempel1613 7 днів тому +1

      Blossom end rot is due to calcium deficiency but the cause is irregular watering. Tomatoes need to be regularly watered & the calcium takes care of itself 💕💕

    • @brokenandcraked
      @brokenandcraked 7 днів тому

      @@elainerempel1613 idk, I used to lose a ton of tomatoes every year to blossom end rot. The only thing I've changed was adding the calcium pills. I'm watering the exact same amount. I haven't lost any tomatoes to blossom end rot in years.

    Love seeing the inside workings of farm lives, especially when it comes to the interactions between the animals ❤️ The duality and difference each situation brings is always so amusing. One minute the sheep are having their natural instincts to run away from the dogs and be a herd animal, the next moment the dogs and sheep are giving each other nuzzles, kisses and playing with each other 🥰
    Miss seeing my dogs play and be loving with our livestock (goats, turkey, chicken and some sheep) one minute, but get into work mode when it came to moving them into different locations or protecting them.
    I know I've seen comments in the past with people negatively mentioning about the dogs and how they interact, but honestly your dogs are so well behaved and just getting excited about being at work with you. People need to chill.
    Keep doing what you're doing Sandi, I look forward to your large merch drop!

    We've had upper 90s all week. I put out a bird bath kind of thing. Filled it with cool hose water. All the animals enjoyed it so much. The squirrels, raccoons at night. Different kinds of birds, little chipmunks. This heat has been rough on our wildlife. I gently sprayed a deer, to get it to move on & not eat neighbors garden. It walked closer to the spray, like a dog playing in the water.... We got rain today, the animals are loving the rain... I will say a prayer for little peanut...❤

    Watching you all work always makes me reminisce working the fully functional farm as a kid, but lately it's making me think about all of our older farmers around me and across the country. I know farmers who are in their 70's and 80's and still doing it all themselves (livestock and crops) with very little outside help. Some are fortunate to have younger family members stepping up to take over the work, but others don't. I don't know how they do it every day.
