I’ve had the exact same problem with a bombardier engine. They have rotary values. I was pumped watching this as I’ve been trying to get mine started. I’ve done everything you did. Ended up being the cables from the starter to the solenoid. Had built up corrosion over the years and not allowing enough amps. Awesome video, you are not an idiot. Bump those other guys. Boats and jet skis take a different set of knowledge. Keep up the good work. 🤙🏽
So they have flywheel keys. Can a backfire or some kind of hard engine hit can cheer the key off in the shaft like it's supposed to to throw the engine out of timing and stop the engine from adding power to hurt itself. The Yamahas have them and pull the flywheel off or take the retainer nut off so you can see the key possibly with it still together. 😮
That was somewhat painful yet entertaining to watch lol. That’s a rotax rotary valve engine. There’s a valve plate that replaces traditional reeds in a 2 stroke engine. So long as nobody has been in there moving things, the rotary valve was probably ok. One HUGE mistake you were already warned about is the carb rebuild kit. I didn’t have to see it to know there was fuel just spraying out of the plug holes. That’s the cheap rebuild kit.. very bad material that opened the pop off valve way too early. They weren’t kidding about genuine mikuni ONLY. You had a great start though! I’m concerned with how hard it was to turn over even with a new starter, but you had compression, spark, and thankfully the dess key worked. That’s usually a big problem. I would have checked the rotary valve timing just to be sure and gone genuine mikuni rebuild. You were right there. If it started and ran off I’d do a leak down test checking the outer seals. At least you got your hands in it and gave it a shot. I like rescuing old skis!
I don't understand - after the engine turned over. Why are we not checking for compression and spark. Take the battery and selonoid out of the critical path and use a jumper pack right to the starter?
It’s a 2 stroke, no valves really, not like a 4 stroke. Should have put a shot of 2 stroke oil down the cylinders, sounded like shit. You’ve probably got water sitting down in the crank case from sitting and it’s wetting your plugs. Gotta run em without plugs and hope for the best on your bearings and seals or do a full bottom end rebuild.
Im having the same issue. what I'm up to is i checked the rotary valve clearance and its way out of spec. It's supposed to be .300mm and .350mm being the max. Im at .582mm and the rotary valve gear has some minor play. Fingers crossed addressing those two will fix my ski. Before learning about the rotary valve i was so confused. I had spark, fuel, compression and air and no boom. Before this problem, my check valve was bad and she refused to start. Just too many little things will make this ski not have combustion.
I’m having the same issue with a friends jet ski’s I was just in your situation to say something can be done but I still can’t get it to kick all the way over
Blessings brother I was wondering since this is a 2 stroke you wont have valves however a lot of times people disconnect the oil feed into the carbs plug it then pre mix the fuel before pouring into fuel tank this should basically cost you nothing out of pocket to do if you happen to have some 2 stroke fuel mix oil from a weed eater or chain saw just a suggestion from your pal From Kissimmee FL Po Boy!
This is a simpler engine more like a chainsaw that a motorcycle or car. Valve timing stoke issues there as there are only 2 stokes per cycle. I think you are doing good except for maybe joining a sea-doo forum and downloading and printing out a proper service / repair manual. You probably should have at least done some research on 2 stoke engines , that may not have been as entertaining as it has been . I enjoyed watching you struggle. I purchased a not running 98 Xp with sugar in the gas tank that had not been run through the system only because the key was missing. It is now my favorite thing but I struggled too. the non genuine carb kit may be an issue you should at least be able to test the carb functionality with a small pump tester with an air pressure guage. I found one for $26 on Amazon. Good luck to you. I hope you get it running.
you could have low compression or the impeller stuck . if you sprayed the carbs and didn’t start forget the carbs , there is something else . i’ll say compression
Cavegn’s usually don’t give up, but I don’t blame you. As a last ditch effort, have you called your dad who has been known as a fair mechanic that might give you a suggestion. LOL!
@@PatinaPitstop I know but after spending money on charger then spending money again for battery anyway it would of saved you time and money just to buy the battery
4 mins in, and im willing to bet Battery is an issue, if not the main issue. everyone in the seadoo comunity knows those batteries are terrible & dont have enough jucie to turn the motor. they just dont last
An engine needs air, fuel, spark and compression. I had those things. I really felt it was a valve adjustment/timing problem. Thanks for commenting, yes i know I'm an idiot 😁
Cool video to watch.. until I realized I lost 45min of my life to a old just slow ski.. and a seadoo at that. I'll still give you a like on this video for your efforts because I work on all my own stuff too but wouldn't give 5 min to a ski that old.

Lol it was killing me that he didn’t just pour some gas in the carbs 😂
I hit it was starting fluid 😁
@@PatinaPitstop starter fluid and pouring 2 stroke fuel into the intake/cylinders are two different things
bro you need to connec water hose in the inlet by the water turbine out back

Thank you so much for the comment. It was fun to mess with but I'll definitely stick with old cars.
Currently working on one myself! Been sitting up for years was my dads i rode it when i was lime 5 or 6, im 26 now may as well get it to use!

Hey man, I got this SeaDoo I was hoping you could take a look at haha jk. Cool video. Good luck with your channel
i have 2 and every year i have to change plugs, it might have a lil spark but fresh plugs might help

Lmao you don’t even have to disconnect anything… get a water bottle that’s empty and put some fuel and oil in it correct mixture obviously.
Lucky it didn’t crank up spraying all that starter fluid into it
