I am planning on building a home. I would like to do a rock foundation using heavy rocks and dry stack or lime mortar. The issue is my soil is heavy clay, soft when wet and rock hard when dry. How deep should I dig the foundation below grade? I saw some other channels that say 1 meter. It does not freeze here.
That might depend on how tall the walls are going to be. 1m sounds sensible to me but without more information I wouldn't be able to say. Thanks for watching!
