I'm glad they maintained the back and forth with the clean and harsh vocals they started with the previous album. The song is a throwback to classics like Iron & Into Battle. I think it's terrific. BTW, that's not how you pronounce "vigilantes"
Was just about to comment that this sounds a lot like Manowar and then you guys said the same thing, so it's not just me feeling like it. Great song! 🙂
This is quintessential Ensiferum, the old mixed with the new - easily the best song theyve released in years. I was so happy to hear this for the first time as I've been a fan of theirs for over 15 years.
Oddly enough, I agree with everyone here, I usually like power metal so I like clean vocals but in Ensiferum I don't know, I kind of want to hear Petri more and it fits the mood more, otherwise they start sounding more like other bands (i.e. Manowar in occurrence).
Agreed, don't put Petri in the corner!!!!!! The clean vocals are great, no doubt, but I think they are being overused now. The ratio should be something like 75/25 Petri to clean vocals but I'm afraid it could be 50/50 or maybe even 40/60 now.......
@@MB-fp9lqEnsiferum have always had a strong power metal component to their sound. Jari employed a power metal vocal style extremely frequently, especially on the album 'Iron', where basically every single non-instrumental song featured power metal vocals to some extent. There have even been power vocals on a few songs during the post-Jari pre-Pekka years, with a few examples being "Deathbringer from the Sky" and "Bonus Song". Theres also been a strong symphonic component to their sound for a long time. Examples would be basically the entire 'From Afar' and 'One Man Army' albums.
Song is good,in Ensiferum style...and second vocal is excelent match with Petri...and chorus absolutly excelent...like Thalassic new album will be perfekt..no doubt in Ensiferum...they know his powerfull style..
Awesome but i would have loved slightly less clean vocals, too much too much back and forth between the singers and 100% the song is better when Petri is singing, just listen to that first part where Petri is singing and see how majestic it is. That's my opinion.
Petri vocals are way better. And that meaning he just fits the theme of the band. The clean vocals are really really good . But its to power metal for this band
While i might agree with others about the singing, im just glad we are getting more ensiferum. Its been 4 years since Thalassic Edit: wish they did more finnish lyrics too. Two of Spades, Lai Lai Hei...they are awesome with both english and finnish Edit 2: i still kinda miss Emmi and Netta
Good song and I like the clean vocals a lot. I know Manowar, but can't hear Defender in this. But then again, I never hear these things. "Sounds like Slayer" - wtf, Slayer sounds like Slayer! No one else! lol
You guys are coming to Saarihelvetti?! Damn! Been there from first festival and place is pretty awesome! Dont forget your rubber boots. Do you have 2 day ticket?
I am a fan of Whispered too really hope an new album 🤘and personnaly I found that Ensiferum lost is way the song is not bad but I really miss the sound of the first 4 albums.
Outstanding song! I have to disagree with you here. I find the clear singing a very strong enrichment and a unique selling point. There is no other band that sounds like Ensiferum and has harsh vocals and at the same time an outstandingly clear singer. I absolutely don't hear Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian in his singing. Hansi sounds rougher and doesn't come up as high. Absolutely nothing here sounds like Manowar. This song wipes its ass with manowar! In my opinion, Manowar and Ensiferum are very far apart musically. Sure, both are epic but the sound is light years apart. ensiferum is folk metal and manowar is...well manowar.
Maybe the song makes him feel like he imagines himself on the cover of some old Manowar LP? I can't think of any other connection than his 12 year old self.
I am an old Ensiferum fan and I honestly did not feel Petri was done goofed. I liked the song, it felt like an unreleased track from Dragonheads or something. A lot closer to golden era Ensi than a lot of the new stuff.
Love Ensiferum. Especially the two first album and the last album. So this was a nice surprise. I mean, it's an alright song. Sounds a lot like much of the same. Of course hard to do something new after all of those albums. The more songs you make, the harder it becomes :P Decent song, but not one of their best, imo.
I really like the song but this time they are not using the powermetal vocals in the right way in my opinion. I know it isnt fair but imagine Jari doing the vocals again. I still have a slight hope that Jari will rejoin some time in the future. Just dreams in a metal world right.
I think I know what's going on here. It's not that he doesn't like the clean singing. I think the problem lies with the type of clean vocals being featured here. The new vocalist, even though extremely talented, sounds too power metally, whereas Jari's vocals during his time in Ensiferum, for example, sounded like a viking. I remember way back in the day when I started listening to Ensiferum as a teenager thinking that he sounded like a Skald in a great hall, singing to kings and jarls the deeds of great warriors. Of course I was 15 at the time and my imagination used to run wild, but you get the idea. Even to this day, I kinda get that same feeling whenever I listen to Treacerous Gods, Slayer of Light, Into Battle or Hero in a Dream. This singer is incredibly talented, but he sounds like a lot of other power metal vocalists out there, who are also equally talented, as it is sine qua non for the genre. So maybe it would be a good idea to make him sing a different way, not exactly like Jari, but something similar to that. But that's just my take.
I only like Jari's clean vocals in Ensiferum. After they fired Jari their clean vocals sounded really bad. The keyboard guy is good but now they sound like Hammerfal/Manowar/Halloween. Doesn't sound or feel like Ensiferum anymore. Sounds like two different bands in the same song competing for spotlight. It's not organic.
I love the clean vocals so much. The new keyboardist made me listen to Ensiferum again after years.
Unrelated, but I find it funny how you guys grow your beards in opposite places. They could fit like a jigsaw puzzle 😂
What a great song this is, very good, those melodic mouths, those guitars at full speed ufff🔥
I really enjoyed this. Some of the best Ensiferum in quite a while. I hope they keep up the energy and keep a good mix of growl and clean songs.
I'm glad they maintained the back and forth with the clean and harsh vocals they started with the previous album. The song is a throwback to classics like Iron & Into Battle. I think it's terrific. BTW, that's not how you pronounce "vigilantes"
How is this a throw back to iron, sounds nothing like the old stuff
@@LordOfSweden Exactly. Sounds nothing like the old albums. It fits in with their last few most recent albums.
@@xxswamplordxx2079 Yep!

Holy crap. I just came from your video The Book of Heavy Metal 6 years ago. You all grown up dude!
Tearinggg Evil apaaaaart!!!
I was shocked whispered came up! Im with you brother!!!

Also, no high pitch cleans please, this isn't power nor symphonic. This is Ensiferum. Clean chorus is epic, high pitch clean isn't.

It's been a great week for metal. This and the new Fleshgod Apocalypse are going to be in my rotation for a while
FA video will be up on Monday
@APREACTS Awesome! Can't wait to see your reaction to it
FA have completely lost it.

Do you know the band Grymheart? song Ignis Fatuus. Many people say it sound like Ensiferum
Thanks Mate, listening to their Album right now. What a missed feeling.

100%
I personally think Pekka definetly made this band better! Thalassic was the best Ensiferum album since ages!
I agree with this statement, but that doesn't mean it will be true for every song or every album going forward.
@@APREACTS Fair enough. But at the moment I really appreciate his addition. Let's see what october brings!

Well Gloryhammer was looking for a singer more recently, Pekka joined in 2019/20
This is 'From Afar' and 'Burning Leaves', just with Petra. I miss Meiju Enho but Petra is a great addition.

Good clean vocal, respect to the guy.. but with ensiferum, that's just a bummer. I was waiting for a final powerful ending that never came.
