This was the most helpful recording breakdown I’ve seen so far. Sounded way more like Jesus and the Mary chain than Slowdive but watching this was gold man!
Binging your channel. Super helpful - it disarms the creative process and injects fun into it. One thing I picked up from this video was your flow for doubling vocals. I had always done it in whole takes, but obviously (obvious now) that doesn't lead to a very closely matched doublr
I appreciate you watching my vids, Andrew! Yeah, man no rules. Whatever works best and helps your process of creating to be more smooth and efficient is a great way to go!💪🏻
I started watching. Good video. I then fast forwarded and the gods took me to the exact part where you thanked people for watching the whole thing and not fast forwarding. THATS CALLED IRONY ALANIS MORRISETTT
That was thoroughly enjoyable, glad you showed up in my feed! What you were doing here was so similar to what I used to do except I was doing it through first a 4 track analogue and then later an 8 track digital recorder and I didn't have a drum kit. You actually came up with a pretty good song here! I really like the way you mixed the low octave/high octave vocals on the chorus. I used to often double track my vocals but I don't think I ever did that little octave trick. Simple but very effective. Thank you for re-inspiring me. Excellent content - subbed!
@@bananalabs no like seriously, everyone try's to overwhelm you with words instead of just showing you how. And you showed me how in such a good process without the headache!
I love your channel. Good music and inspiring. When I saw you crank that Hot Rod Deluxe with the notorious drive channel and just a fuzz in front I thought it would sound awful but it actually turned out great.
bro you are an inspiration you should really start a music career u have great potential , keep uploading music and keep up the amazing work much love from tunisia
Thank you, Nestor! I do it for you guys! I gotta be honest with you, I was never a fan. Respectfully. But if enough people request it then I gotta give them what they want haha.
@@bananalabs thank you it would mean a lot. I think from looking through your channel their genre really fits your style. Songs to look out for id recommend ‘play it out’ ‘lay down’ for heavier indie rock and ‘the switch’ or ‘step up the morphine’ for a more chilled vibe. Cheers🤟🏼
hey quick question! do you recommend using fx like verb/delay on pedalboard when recording or do you do all that in daw? i’m just torn between these two! thanks love the videos ❤
Thank you!!! Yes, I usually process my vocals the same for this genre. Compression, EQ (roll off the lows and boost the mids/ a little bit of the highs), saturation to warm it up a bit and for slight texture, then reverb to your liking!
sick as always :) was wondering if you'd consider covering an artist like Lil Ugly Mane, he's got some really interesting stuff on his latest album, very unique style
Im late to this video so dont expect a reply but this is just to anyone who makes music. Do you record guitar in full takes? I normally record an intro then a verse then chorus so on so on, but i often find that this way has very slight chops when the sections change:/ is it easier to just record stuff in one take?
Hey! If I’m doing rhythm guitar then I much prefer to do one full take. Then I would layer any leads over in sections. If it’s a difficult intro to play then I would most likely just do the intro separately so that’s it’s more cleaner. Whatever is more comfortable and efficient for the player! To each their own! The choppy east can can when you don’t play into the parts. Instead of starting and stoping in those sections, play a couple bars into it and out. Then in post production you can just fade those parts in and out so it’s more seamless!
Yes! I’m primarily a guitarist so I’ll write and structure my songs on guitar first. Then as I start recording each instrument I’ll start the production on what instruments/parts sound good or help the song i.e. synth sounds, leads etc.
@@bananalabs thanks for getting back to me man, your info/production style has helped me these past few days get a better structure when doing my music projects🙌🏼im gonna keep encouraging you to listen to DMA’s haha😅 i think you’ll like em.
Yes! Occasionally I would overdub rhythm guitars, drag one very slightly off the grid and pan both hard right and the other left, lowering one below the other for a more wide and fuller guitar sound. 💪🏻
Can you make a song that sounds like Britney Spears, Toxic??? I remember reading somewhere... idk, that a lot of big time music producers refer to Toxic when mixing sounds. Idk how legit that is.. but you know, some cocky obnoxious bass, a funky guitar strum, poop like that.. (Britney's latest album, arguably her best, imo, tried to make a Toxic 2.0, called Do You Wanna Come Over, I know for sure you'd immediately pick up on the similarities). Anyway, love your channel, have been binge watching all your vids. You know what you're talking about. Which is refreshing A F.
3 AM... Fixing my writer's block. You inspired me to pick up my guitar... Thanks dude.
Glad to be of service, Jason!
Same here!

Thank you for watching, JP!
sounds more like a more shoegaze fade into you by mazzy star to me! Sounds great either way
That’s a great song! Yeah, I can hear that too. Thank you!
im getting a bit of a radiohead vibe, too.
dude this is insane, you should have waay more subscribers
Thank you so much!!!

Haha Only the best!
Man, you got something special going here with these genre vids!
Thank you so much, D! I appreciate you! 🙏🏻
Sounds like Elliot Smith making a Jesus & Mary Chain album. Fun to watch the production take place.
loved seeing this! reminds me of my own sessions! - the cringing to oneself :') Very informative and fun to watch, thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
I love how you show every painstaking step of the process - music aint easy man! especially vocals haha
Thank you, Louis! It can definitely be a challenge 😅
This is soooooo good!

Awesome! Thank you! I’m still learning different approaches on achieving the sounds I want. Glad to be of service. And Thank you for the sub!!!
Reminds me more of a Starflyer 59 song. Nice!
Cheers from Brazil! What nice content.
Thank you!🙏🏻🖤
Just discovered your feed. Love your style and content. Your double-tracked vocals are very reminiscent of Elliott Smith.
These are the best tutorials I have ever seen
Thank you so much!

Great song, really enjoyed that vid. Definitely managed to nail Slowdive
Thank you for watching!!!

😅have you though about doing cuco type beat?

@@bananalabs thanks the honesty and telling me instead of leaving me hanging ✊. Don’t make music you don’t like. 🙅🏽♂️
stunning work!
Thank you so much!!!
You nailed song structure and feeling, but I miss stacked delay and reverb sounds.
Fantastic!
Thank you!
It’s amazing there’s only 3 guitar tracks. It sounds so full. Is the fuzz track panned center or a little to the Left?
Thanks! Yeah, I pan them. The only thing I centered was the kick, snare and vocals I believe.
yes!
✊🏻🥳
Awesome, Slowdive is irreplaceable forever, however you've done amazing job ❤ when this would be added to spotify?
Sounds like Slowdive!
🙏🏻😄
this is awesome!
Thank you!
your singing voice sounds a lot like Elliot Smith, great video!
Thanks for watching! I’m doing an Elliot Smith video this week. Should be up in the next week or so!
that was really good wow
Thank you so much!
Mazzy 🌟
Eres un genio, muchas gracias.
Thank you!!!❤️
hi great video but
what daw are you using??
Thank you! Ableton
This sounds great man, can you try recreate a DMA’s tune from their hills end album?
Thank you! I’ll check them out and consider! Stay posted!

I think he uses pedals while recording, but either way works just fine
It reminded me of their song machine gun
Ah I could hear that too!
