Elder scene/screamo's lived and died by the sharpie/paint pen. We'd make our own "band" shirts, our own tights with patterns, and we'd do our nails and (sometimes) a bit of our makeup with them. I don't know a single person from the peak of scene-era fashion that bought hollister stuff, but I know that started popping up as we got older and had to dress like normal people again. Also, anything is a choker if you're brave enough. We used to braid shit like shoe strings and ribbon to make them and hair bows. a big thing was making thumb holes in long sleeved clothing too. Never got into the beads deal but in my area we had more leather and lace stuff with chunky accessories. I adore that the fashion is coming back.

Great options. I think the difference between scene kids in the 00s vs scene kids now is the internet influence on fashion. Back then, we just made things up as we went. There wasn't necessarily a specific store or brand that we went to for clothes.
THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING that scene kids back then didn’t actually have a lot of money to buy hot topic and stuff. when I wanted to be scene, i didn’t have lots of alt clothes so all I used was a pair of black winter boots, an old black/white jacket around my hips, a green tennis shirt with a gir sticker slapped on it, space buns, and hand warmers made out of socks. i rlly just wanna thank you for making content like this!! ive been interested in dressing scene for a while and have honestly felt so behind given that i live in a country that doesn't have hot topic or many other similar stores. but you mentioning diy at the beginning kinda opened up another avenue for me that i hadn't considered! i love diy stuff (especially clothes and accessories) and if i'm in a position where i can't just buy something, it's honestly a really good way to make something similar!! it's also just. nice and therapeutic to sit down and make something and have it be a physical thing that you can get a use out of!
being a genderfluid scene kis is sometimes so scary because i will be wearing a tight shirt for the first time in a month and them my gender will suddenly fluid back to not female and im like "well fuck"
As a punk I usually wear clothes from family members, neighbors, and the nearest thrift store (it is an old people type place) in town center. I also have a sewing machine and get old fabric from other people. I have a Bart Simpson sweatshirt from when the Soviet Union still existed lol
I’m so glad I found your channel! It’s awesome to see other people still into scene culture. Thank you for this video, you reminded me that thrift stores are great.
Literally thank you so much for this, I love your channel so freakin much!! I’m 19 and goth, but I’ve been trying to branch out and try other fashions/subcultures and haven’t known how to do so
i found pink skinny jeans, this black belt with pink glittery stars, and black and pink cheetah print skirt at thrift stores, which are like my favourite clothes i own. i love thrift stores so much omgg
Yup 10 years ago when I was an emo /scene kid . We were poor so most of me and my friends only had a few basic pieces. We had the same converse and bangs for 2 years and when we had a bit of money we spent it at hot topic buying accessories and belts and 2 good band t shirts . Aghhh I'm an elder emo kid now 😅
Do you potentially have any advice for more male-centeric scene stuff? A lot of talk of scene fashion is more female-centric, which kinda sucks but yannow, makes sense since there are generally more scene gals than guys.
It used to be studded belts, black skinny jeans, statement zip up hoodies, black nail polish, and some metal accessories. Well, mostly same as for girls but I distinctly remember black skinny jeans being a thing. Oh, and black or white slim fitting shirts (mostly short sleeved ones) with red skinny tie.
My mum always gets me some type of pastel or colored skinny jeans and shorts over the years and i didn't know what to do with them but now I do and thank you for the tips definitely did help :)
A huge part of scene is kitsch, go to a flea market and you're bound to find something that fits the style. I live in Poland and stuff like shirts with tiger and leopard prints on a rainbow background is very easy to find if you know where to look.
this comment is old, but I live in Europe too and there's an online store similar to hot topic called emp. I buy a lot from there, and even though most of the stuff they have there is more emo/goth/metalhead you can find some things that could definitely be scene! for example they sell a lot of band merch, I bought a pair of black and white striped stockings there, they have knee high shoes similar to converse... etc.The only problem is that it can be expensive sometimes and the shipping is long. I also customize or make a lot of my clothes. I painted a checkered pattern on my converse and added colored shoelaces and got a little of compliments on them! I also make all of my kandi (I use perler beads but it works anyway). I bought a pair of black skinny jeans (they're on a lot of regular clothing stores) and ripped them by myself. Also you can get fishnet stockings pretty much anyway Hope this helped! 🖤
I loved it when Sears and Gordman’s had colored skinny jeans on clearance. Now, I rarely ever find colored skinny jeans. I outgrew all of mine except for my Joker jeans. I have picked up two pairs of red plaid skinny jeans which look pretty scene.
It’s cool seeing emo style today!! I love the style still but am more into Lolita fashion now. When I was a teenager tho I was very much wearing the emo aesthetic. Back in the day it was sort of slim pickings and my wardrobe was small.
im not a fan of dressing feminine either, you dont have to wear the tutus or tiaras, or feminine stuff! you can look up pics of scene boys/scene kings for reference :33
I just used ur other video to cut my hair for the first time into my dream scene/emo hair. I’m 19yo now so I am my own adult supervision. I’ve always dressed it but my hair was always a wolf cut or just long bc I was always too scared to cut my own hair. But I’m super happy with how it turned out.
I went to Hot Topic like 2 days ago, its starting to have the old scene/emo/goth clothing… I saw Gir shirts, Emily the Strange, Monster High, checkered belts, gloves with patterns, stockings, chokers, etc. I was so shocked
Just wanna add as a tip for thrifting-- it's better to go to a local thrift shop than Goodwill. Goodwill pays their disabled workers as low as 22 cents per hour... I wish I was joking. Also! If you want your jeans (or really anything) to be black but they're not, consider dyeing them black!
Thanks! I've been really wanting to become a scene emo kid and kinda new what I wanted to do but this video helps more of what I need to get in my wardrobe to become full scene kid!
Found some platform converse at the thrift store! They were originally priced for 55 dollars but the good will I was at was only like 15. Sadly they where to big for me but it was a 10 out of 10 find!

I just drew some digital art of her and it looks so good i luv ittttt i submitted it as an art project for school and my teacher loved it :]
i rlly just wanna thank you for making content like this!! ive been interested in dressing scene for a while and have honestly felt so behind given that i live in a country that doesn't have hot topic or many other similar stores. but you mentioning diy at the beginning kinda opened up another avenue for me that i hadn't considered! i love diy stuff (especially clothes and accessories) and if i'm in a position where i can't just buy something, it's honestly a really good way to make something similar!! it's also just. nice and therapeutic to sit down and make something and have it be a physical thing that you can get a use out of!
being a genderfluid scene kis is sometimes so scary because i will be wearing a tight shirt for the first time in a month and them my gender will suddenly fluid back to not female and im like "well fuck"
LMFAO REAL
As a punk I usually wear clothes from family members, neighbors, and the nearest thrift store (it is an old people type place) in town center. I also have a sewing machine and get old fabric from other people. I have a Bart Simpson sweatshirt from when the Soviet Union still existed lol
Wow never thought this style would come back. Used to dress like this 11-16 years ago
I am becoming a scene kid cause I felt like it would match me, and this helped alot. Thank you!
You have no idea how many times I’ve rewatched this video before going shopping
I love your energy and how you don't talk down to your audience, came looking for inspiration for a drag look, staying for the personality :))
I’m so glad I found your channel! It’s awesome to see other people still into scene culture. Thank you for this video, you reminded me that thrift stores are great.
RIGHT I HATE FAST FASHION BUT ITS USUALLY THE MOST AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE AND IT MAKES ME SO SAD
one thing i do is a go to the thrift store and buy a bunch of cheap chain neckalces and use then and i take off the charms and use the chains
this is the best scene person ive ever seen, like, shes even conscious abt how bad fast fashion is?!? zomg
your videos make me feel so happy and comfortable!! i am guilty of rewatching some just while i do every day things
LITERALLY i always find the cutest things at thrift stores, i found two mlp plushies last time X3
@@yote333 i found a pair of glittery converse at a thrift shop but they were too small for me
@@yote333 our thrift stores dont usually have plushies
or anything at them, its either dvds or clothes
Scene and Emo is making a comeback in 2022
YES
Ur makeup is so pretty!! I love scene :)
Tysm for making this video!!! I've just got into the scene world, and I've been struggling SO MUCH finding the right clothes.
U don't even look like an egirl LOLZ I'm absolutely loving the draculara makeup. NEwayz another awesome video
most claire’s don’t have cameras and only have one person working so if they’re doing a piercing i start borrowing
I have *massive* diversity of fashion, although one of my favorite styles (I don't have at all) is scene and emo. Thanks for this :D
9:01 the string is VERY durable and works really well btw
Yup 10 years ago when I was an emo /scene kid . We were poor so most of me and my friends only had a few basic pieces. We had the same converse and bangs for 2 years and when we had a bit of money we spent it at hot topic buying accessories and belts and 2 good band t shirts . Aghhh I'm an elder emo kid now 😅
my scenemo phase was a long time ago but i wanna still have some of it back in my wardrobe so i'm rewatching this :]
LUV UR VIDS!! U SHULD DO A MAKEUP TUT 💗💗
Perfect amount of comfy in front of a camera. Ur doing amazing sweetie
I followed u only cuz i rly rly searched this and you seem very nice ❤😁
I found a creeper jacket from 2016 at goodwill in perfect condition AND my size!!! i was so happy omg. i wear it every chance i get
THANK YOU for mentioning that scene kids and e-girls are two different things
My mum always gets me some type of pastel or colored skinny jeans and shorts over the years and i didn't know what to do with them but now I do and thank you for the tips definitely did help :)
POV: Your half way through watching this vid and then remember you live in Europe
A huge part of scene is kitsch, go to a flea market and you're bound to find something that fits the style. I live in Poland and stuff like shirts with tiger and leopard prints on a rainbow background is very easy to find if you know where to look.
Idk if im even close to being scene but here in sweden its very hard finding stuff too :/
@@joannamysluk8623 I didn’t see ur comment till now thank you
@@Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal I usually try and find stuff on eBay :)
this comment is old, but I live in Europe too and there's an online store similar to hot topic called emp.
Also you can get fishnet stockings pretty much anyway
Hope this helped! 🖤
I loved it when Sears and Gordman’s had colored skinny jeans on clearance. Now, I rarely ever find colored skinny jeans. I outgrew all of mine except for my Joker jeans. I have picked up two pairs of red plaid skinny jeans which look pretty scene.
I just love you!! I share your page to anyone who wants to dress alt and scene
It’s cool seeing emo style today!! I love the style still but am more into Lolita fashion now. When I was a teenager tho I was very much wearing the emo aesthetic. Back in the day it was sort of slim pickings and my wardrobe was small.
BRINGGGG BACKKK SCENEEEEEEEEE
scene fashion is so feminine i dont want ppl to think im a girl and i dont rlly feel comfortable dressing feminine 🙁
Don't worry! I don't know your gender but if your a man you can be a scene king, or cut out more of the female stuff :4
im not a fan of dressing feminine either, you dont have to wear the tutus or tiaras, or feminine stuff! you can look up pics of scene boys/scene kings for reference :33
Man this brings back nostalgia feels… back in 2010-2014 I was a scene kid and honestly one of the best times of my life
I just used ur other video to cut my hair for the first time into my dream scene/emo hair. I’m 19yo now so I am my own adult supervision. I’ve always dressed it but my hair was always a wolf cut or just long bc I was always too scared to cut my own hair. But I’m super happy with how it turned out.
As a former scene kid in 2024, thank you!
Also! If you want your jeans (or really anything) to be black but they're not, consider dyeing them black!
honestly im new to the scene but i wear black but my accessories are so colourful. :D it looks super duper kyute o3o
This so really good advice thanks
I'm so excited bc my moms buying me a whole scene closest bc I grew out of all my clothes and I need to find cheap ones so. Tysm
A SCENE GENDER-FLUID? TWINZZZ :D
@@saturn_is_K3WL AHHHHHH XDDD
Thanks! I've been really wanting to become a scene emo kid and kinda new what I wanted to do but this video helps more of what I need to get in my wardrobe to become full scene kid!
Boutta make notes and walk into school with a scene outfit, I'm already the "weird kid", so might as well roll with it!
Found some platform converse at the thrift store! They were originally priced for 55 dollars but the good will I was at was only like 15. Sadly they where to big for me but it was a 10 out of 10 find!
As a new scene kid with sensory issues, I can't wear jeans so I wear flare trousers instead!!
