  • Special thanks to KGSloan on Advrider.com that explained how to operate the "secret" Base Modes with the kill switch. This is not explained anywhere in KTM's instructions.
    In the box that you get with this Offroad ABS/Bad Fuel Dongle there was an instruction that shows how to install the Dongle to the KTM 1190 Adventure and the 690 SMC. The 2014 690 Enduro differs in how to install the Dongle and that is not included in the paper instruction for now. However at KTM's official site you can find an electronic instruction that show how to install the Dongle on the Enduro modell.
    Kill switch on / Ignition on / Start = Bike starts with Offroad ABS Mode / ABS Front Only
    Kill switch off / Ignition on / Kill switch on / Start = Full ABS / ABS both front and rear.
    From both modes you can push button No. 3 on the Dash Board to dissable the ABS completely without turn off the ignition.
    There is no memory in this function what have experienced.
    ABS light, no flash = Full ABS mode
    ABS light, Flashes slowly = Offroad ABS mode
    ABS light, Flashes fast = No ABS

    Thank you very much, I had my bike with full abs mode and thought my dongle was HS. Even my KTM retailer told me that once the dongle is plugged it's either off road or without abs but no possibility to ride with full abs again.
    Thanks to you I can fully use the option I bought 😁
    You rock 🤘

      Ohh, happy to have been helpful then! Thanks. Dealers could sometimes or unfortunately be very narrow in their passion for what they actually should offer. Full passion service and interest of their products. But they have their days full of the business to work on the other side, we all know how it is. There is where we google and YT dudes chim in and complement! 😂🙌💪

    Big thanks Mattias. I will try these functions tomorrow. After it was installed by the dealer I read the instructions and it stated that there are only 2 possible options: Front wheel only ABS and no ABS. I was immediately shocked that the instructions indicated that there was no longer a 2 wheel ABS option. I am hoping you instructions work tomorrow. Thanks for putting this video together.

      Thanks for your post Adrian! I'm sure you will find out that you can reach all functions as described. Remarkable that KTM does not include a complete instruction. I have found myself riding with the offroad mode in all situations, in mud, on gravel and on asphalt. Even on steep downhills. It is simple the best mode for me and makes the dongle absolutely worth to install.

    Mattias, I ordered a dongle as part of my 2015 690R purchase, but it is backordered from KTM. It looks like I'll not have it for my ride in Moab, Utah this March. On another topic, I noticed you have a Garmin Astro 320 on your bike. Are you using that to keep track of your fellow riders, assuming each one has their own dog collar attached to their bikes? I happen to have an earlier Astro 220 that I used to located several high powered rockets that would land a mile or more away when they landed. This is an interesting twist to using the dog tracker to find where your buddies are if they get lost. Very clever. For those of you who don't know what the heck I'm talking about, the Astro 220/320 can track 10 dogs with radio collars and the batteries last 18 hours. I've written several magazine articles that were published on rocketry applications.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  9 років тому

      Tele Rover, hehe you are observant. I have had the same thought about to fasten a collar on riding buddys, but I have never used it that way. I normally use the 320 when hunting small games and deers/moose with my hunting dog. He is a scent/tracking dog that keeps track and barking at the games for about an hour before backtracking back to me (unless me and my buddies shoot the game). Very nice to see where the dog are in the terrain. Good idea to keep track on each other when riding too I think, but normally I use a Zumo 550 on the bar. I,m sure you will enjoy your 690 when it arrives :)

      Matthias,
      I'm in the process of breaking in the 690R in between snow storms. Just no dongle. You can see my you tube videos, which includes my Australian Shepherd, Deacon, who rides with me about half the time with me, here in Colorado and Utah.

    Hey Mattias - thanks for posting this, as well as all the great follow-up comments. One more question: do you know of any way to have abs completely turned off at all times, even after turning bike on and off with ignition switch? I ride aggressive and difficult dirt in Southern California and would like to be able to have it off all day, after short breaks, etc., and not have to push the button on the dash to kill the front wheel abs.

      @Braapncamp  8 років тому

      Hi, thanks for Your comment! sorry to say that I have not found a function for this. that would be nice to have that option. However, I have found it very useful ta have it start in offroad mode as default. It has saved me a couple of times ;)

    • @jasonferrier
      @jasonferrier 7 років тому +2

      You could probably pull the fuse for the ABS system if it isn't shared with other things. My 2016 owners manual shows that the ABS is Fuse 9 [10 Amp fuse]

      Thanks for Your comment. The dongle works in the way that you always start in offroad abs mode. Which is nice if you mostly ride on gravel/dirt. If you do black top most of the time you don't need this. I loved it though. My 790 has this function built in.

    Mattias, thank you very much for your video. I can’t seem to make this work on my 2019. I am specifically not able to enable ABS on the front and rear wheel. Your Killswitch suggestion does not work on the 2019’s, at least not on mine. I wonder if you or any of your subscribers have any ideas? My local dealer is clueless! In the meantime I am riding on the road with no rear ABS, this doesn’t worry me except as you mentioned on the road with wet conditions. Thank you!

    Also, I like the Motonaut luggage, unfortunately it does not appear to be available in Canada and the USA yet. Huge market for them if them decide to sell here.

      All cred for finding out the super secret function goes to an Advrider inmate, he described it in writing in a thread. Motonaut suits me well, simpel an rough. I'm not sure why they don't go for the US/Canada market, sure that would boost the sales. Happy trials!

      Bo B. Jacobsen Hej Bo, inte en aning. Bäst att höra med handlaren, men risken är stor att de inte heller vet. Om du har nära till nån som har donglen på sin KTM så kan man ju prova.

  • @sgholman1

    Mattias, do you happen to know if the bad fuel portion of this 'dongle' can be activated on the 690. i doubt i will ever need it but just in case i would like to know., thanks again!

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  10 років тому +1

      Mt understanding is that you activate the bad fuel mode by set the map switch under your seat to "0". If the Dongle is needed for this setting or not, I do not know since the user's manual is vague about this. The Dongle is shared with other KTM models so it could be that this Dongle activates the posibility to use bad fuel mode differently based by bike model.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  10 років тому

      Mattias Eriksson By the way, within short I will upload a video of installing a cool handlebar switch to be able to control the map settings without fiddling under the seat :)

      Mattias Eriksson I have installed the dongle, works just as you said it would. Also read the bike manual, now I understand the different power maps and how to change them. tks. the bike is new, i only have a couple hundred kilometers on it. i have been testing the front wheel only ABS, not sure i like it. it sounds like you have been riding your bike for a while, would you please give me your opinion on using ABS on dirt roads and single track. I do most of my riding in the deserts around phoenix Arizona.
      also i will watch for your video on installing a switch for the fuel maps, i'm very interested.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  10 років тому

      scott holman my experience and suggestion is to use front ABS only mode in most gravel/dirt situations. In extreme offroad situations like very steep downhill with slipery surface, you should turn off ABS completely. I only use full ABS on wet tarmac. I'm sure you will enjoy this great bike to the fullest :) ride it hard !
