Men of God and prophets are often mocked and misunderstood. One thing I love about our Appalachian heritage is the deep-rooted belief we have in God and the Bible, even today.

You are a masterful storyteller and this video is truly worthy. I can feel the cold, smell the snow and take on the hopeless feeling of loneliness and despair with an ease that is very disturbing. Thank you. His story is heartbreaking and undeniably true. As we know many of our Appalachian mountain folk came from Scotland and Ireland ... these regions bringing second sight to some of her peoples. A blessing and often a curse. May he be resting now in peace. 🌹
Arlan, about a year ago I finally had the discretionary funds for the latest DNA ancestry test, and it proved what my family had always said - even as a 2nd-gen Irish American, I'm still that very rare bird known as 100% Irish. Not even a little Viking. No special honors due or anything either, but it does come with what's frequently known as second sight. When your roots go all the way back to the druids, there's just bound to be some of that. It's my basic position that many people lose touch with it even in early childhood since our modern world - for all its benefits and advantages - still looks askance at anything it doesn't understand or can't explain. So it drums that out of people through various social pressures. So I'm especially delighted when modern science starts getting a handle on some aspect of special gifts; for instance, research scientists are beginning to come around to accepting the idea of ancestral memory since so many studies have shown how an animal can be taught artificial aversion to something; and then when its offspring are not subjected to the same conditioning, yet they too will exhibit the same results. Etc. Just one example of what I used to do in an excruciating marriage when it felt especially dangerous was to 'call' my husband mentally no matter the physical distance between us at the moment. He realized what was happening and yet also that he'd have no peace until he called me on the phone, and I could make that happen in 5 minutes tops. I heard him say to other people that I was the only person on earth he was scared of. But of course that's a major reason I stayed alive too. And our son was the same way. He was not quite 4 when a huge earthquake struck Chile. We had no direct traditional news of it at the time, but he had uncharacteristic nightmares that made it impossible for him to sleep and wouldn't/couldn't divulge any details. Then next morning when I brought in the newspaper stilled rolled up and tucked under my arm, he said "They're wrong." About what? "They're wrong about how many people died. It was closer to (and he gave a number I don't recall)" So when I opened the paper there was a banner headline on the front page about that earthquake, which I understood then was what had kept him so freaked out all night. And a week or 2 later, the official revised estimated death toll almost exactly matched what he said it would be. Again, my main point being that this is all entirely natural and it just seems rare and suspect bc society beats it out of most people.
