- Come join us for a Bosnian Food Review as we head to Šadrvan one of our favorite restaurants in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. As one of our favorite restaurants in Mostar we ended up coming back 3 different times (including once before) to sample a number of different things on the menu. For this particular meal we keyed in on the following food items:
1) Bosnian Coffee with sugar cubes and Turkish delight (honey)
2) Dolma - stuffed peppers with minced meat, rice, parsley, onions and sour cream
3) Mix Plate Platter - Dolma, Bosnian cookies, stewed meat and rice
4) Grilled Vegetables - eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms
5) Baklava for dessert
It was a wonderful meal and we'd highly recommend you visit.

Bosnian Food Review - 5 Things to try in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello there! We managed to find a really cool restaurant and we're going to go film there today. The rain hasn't stopped but it is a little bit lighter so we're going to make our way there and yeah show you what Bosnian and Herzegovina food is all about.
I'm very excited to be trying Bosnian coffee. Oh yeah. This is my very 1st time to try it. Apparently it is very similar to Turkish coffee. Super strong. It is supposed to be very strong. The grounds apparently are uh the coffee grounds are still at the very bottom. Yeah, so they're not filtered. They are not filtered out of the water so you have to let them yep settle before you pour yourself a cup.
It is nice and strong.
Also I feel like I should mention where we are eating because we kind of just ran in here with our umbrellas and didn't really show you the outside. It is called Šadrvan and it is on the west side of the river just as soon as you cross the bridge.
The feast has landed on the table. It sure has. And we're going to start with the first dish which is Dolma. Yeah. And if you have a closer look at this it is basically stuffed peppers with minced meat, rice, parsley, onions and it comes with a giant dollop of cream in the middle. A giant dollop.
This is kind of the ultimate mix plate with tonnes of sour cream. Sour cream. So then you have another one dolma stuffed pepper over there. One dolma.
What is really cool over here is you have it looks like some stewed meat. It is so tender I had that last night. And then you have the Bosnian cookies which is not a cookie at all.
So what is in it? I had this last night and it is basically like a beef patty. Right. So it made with ground beef, eggs, garlic, I think onions and like a little bit of breadcrumbs to give it texture along with rice.
Okay dish number 3. This isn't actually a main. This was our side order. Yeah. And we were trying to keep things relatively healthy. Yeah. So we got a grilled vegetable platter. So if you take a closer look we've got some slices of eggplant, zucchini. We have some mushrooms. It looks like another whole pepper.
And now for dessert and we're having Baklava. It is basically kind of like a mille feux pastry. Like a puffed pastry with all of these layers. And in between you've got like these finely chopped nuts. Yeah. With either honey or some kind of sugary syrup.
We just paid the bill. We sure did. What was the damage? So in local currency which is Bosnian Convertible Marka which has like I think 1.6 exchange rate with the US dollar. That came to twenty two US dollars and fifty cents and in Euros that was 19.40.
We'd give it a five out of five. We'll be back again. Tata!

Thanks! It certainly was. We were lucky that the 2nd part of our time in Mostar we had gorgeous sunny days.
One of my favourite Sam and Audrey episodes, a classic I’d say.
Great vlog ... nice to see the rebuilt bridge at Mostar , I remember my father in law crying when we saw it bombed , and he was a Serb and was torn apart by that horrid war . Love your work , I just turned a friend into a subscriber who I is going to that part of the world parts in March ...
Thank you! We really appreciate that :) I sure hope that never happens again to Mostar.

We'll have 4 more food videos, a day trip video and a Mostar guide coming out soon. We filmed more there than usual.
Believe me, Mostar is even more beautiful in summer! But warning - it can be reeeeally hot there! :) have a nice time!

It is the same our Albanian food and in general myslim countries have similiar kind of food. Love it❤
Thank You !
Thanks!
Watching you guys makes me.... HUNGRY. I love the looks on your faces while you're eating. Priceless and on point to make me want to EAT. :o)
Wow even with the rain Mostar looks stunning! That bridge and that view, wow I’m in love!
Are you supposed to drink coffee before your lunch? I mean, is this a characteristic of the country?
Anyhow, the food looks so fantastic!! And super cheap too!
Because of you I need to visit the country now LOL
It's part of the tradition in Bosnia & Herzegovina, especially when people would visit their friends or family at home, first have some coffee with sweets, then after a good laugh and talk, have the lunch or dinner. And then have some cake after that... Funny thing, we're not an obese country at all, even if everyone's eating all the time lol
Try Pita under Sach in Sarajevo. Try all kinds of pita
Thanks for the suggestion!
January is winter time, Mostar does not get any snow, so during winter they get a lot of rain and wind ..
Thanks, yeah that makes sense.
Vuestros videos no aburren.Mucha información,emoción y sentidos.
¡Muchas gracias! Realmente apreciamos escuchar eso.
Great video. One thing I would say about Bosnian food is that it's a nice mixture of Turkish, Balkan, South Slavic and Austrian cuisines :)
Thank you! It is a wonderful blend of influences.
The food you had looked so good that we found a place here in Toronto. We are going to try it out. For sure this was a juicy and mouth watering video!
Berina's Specialty Grill & Restaurant Address: 889 Pantera Dr, Mississauga, ON L4W 2R9, Canada regarding the coffee, I believe you can find a Bosnian coffee in this restaurant. You can buy Zlatna Dzezva it is a Bosnian coffee brand I know they export into Canada a lot
Krigla Kriglich thanks for letting us know!
Nothing wrong with how you hold your utensils. You should know everyone around the world uses different methods, utensils and hands. 😉
Thank you! That makes me feel better ;)
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos My brother holds his utensils the same way and he us 35 so don't feel bad. It's your life. 😚
Samuel and Audrey, thank You guys for great presentation of our city. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Mostar, it would be honor for us to host You and accommodate you in one of our many units, free of charge. Thank you for visiting Mostar, you promoted our city in a really great way and we are thankful for that. Of course, you were limited by your time and other plans, and you didn’t experience all the magic of our beloved city 😊 Shame you didn’t try for example, paragliding over Mostar, which is one of a kind experience, driving a kayak over river Neretva, not to mention off road and quad adventure amid gorgeous countryside of Herzegovina, also unique experience that sticks to your memory.
Thank You guys again for visiting our city, we hope You enjoyed it.

A restaurant that serves good good and comes along with friendly cats for you to pet and hug! That's awesome! I am a huge fan of cats too. The baklava looked delicious, I love that dessert, although I had tried it just a few times.
Thanks! Good food + cats = great outing :) That is cool to hear. Most places in Mostar had Baklava on the menu so we had it a few times.
Bruno Gambini in BiH u NEVER pet or hug cats and dogs from street or restoraunts. And most of the dogs on the streets would bite u
Thank YOU!✔
Thanks Nela!
That's possibly "Vegeta" in the rice? I put it in my white rice all of the time....my husband won't let me make it any other way now. Mostar is beautiful, and any Balkan food is....😘😘😘
Oh, it could be! Thanks for letting us know. We had some incredible meals while traveling in the Balkans.
👍👍👍gorgeous meals
Thanks! It sure was :)
It is so great to have such a wonderful feedback for Mostar, the most beautiful city in Bosnia. People also recommend Cevapcici in Travnik, even tho I never ate them there it is quite true that they are the best. You were fortunate from one of the other videos to eat the cheese from Travnik and Livno, also unique and gorgeous. Sarajevo has gone wild these years with varieties of international cuisine, not quite sure where to eat some traditional meals. I stick with the Steak, wherever I go :D and the Durum, I believe they can barely go wrong anywhere.
Thank you very much! It was our favorite city on this trip.
chocolate cake and turkish coffee, yummie 👍
Thanks! Definitely a winning combo :)
Awesome to see you guys in Bosnia, greetings from the capital. :D
Ignorant waiter doesn't realize people have accents. :p
I hope you guys have a great stay here in Balkans and come visit more often, turbulent recent history here, but many hidden gems worth visiting.
Thank you! We had a great time in Mostar. Unfortunately we didn't visit Sarajevo and we really regret that. Agree with you about the hidden gems. Any in particular you'd recommend that aren't that popular yet?
Montenegro is a beautiful coastal country and very cheap. There are many vistas that remind you of Italy and Croatia. I have never been there, but I know many friends and family that visit every summer. Coastal towns that come to mind are "Ulcinj", "Budva" and "Herceg Novi", but I am sure you can't go wrong with any coastal town.
When you say ''cream'', i was in here like ''it's yogurt!!!'' haha :D
No is kajmak
Bosnian "Rahatlokum" is Turkish Delight. :)
Thanks for letting us know.
Dolma is stuff peppers we make this food in America. Some of that food looks so heavy.
Interesting to hear. This was a heavy meal for sure.
In Mostar restaurants are so many cats and they are feeling so safe and confident that they almost like to rest on our lap! And they are very protected by restaurant staff as they keep all the storages clean from the mice and other rodents. Dogs as well use to rest laid down on the cobbled road - no matter if it is just the main entrance to the restaurant...
Thats the difference of Bosnian Kahva and Turkish one. In Turkey they put coffe in and watter too make the coffe and in Bosnia we cook it as watter will be heated seperate and on the end you will just put coffe and burn it just for some seconds for the coffe to get the taste and then pour water in it wait till the coffe comes to the top and done.
Lovely! Culture resembles Turkish because that area was part of Otoman Empire. Other part of town is Latin (Croatians mostly live there).
Thanks! We really enjoyed exploring the city on foot.
Croatians are Slavic. Only Latin thing is the histocial Italian influence
Leon PRG Yes they are, but their culture background is Latin because it stands on Latin civilisation.
I Love the Food in bosnia ❤️
It is so tasty.
Such a shame about the rain, buy you seemed to be making the most of it. And the city still looked beautiful even in this weather.
Thank you! Honestly after this day the weather was stunning. Total reversal.
Beautiful place, people, food you can't imagine thousand of peoples died because of war in this peaceful place before.
Thanks, I'm glad things are peaceful these days. We really enjoyed visiting.
When ordering a turkish-bosnian coffee, you should drink lots of water, especially if they give you Rahatlokum (in some regions called Lokum or Ratluk) instead of sugar. You have to take a small bite, and drink a coffee while the Rahtlokum is still in your mouth
Thanks for sharing that! We tried one exactly as you described. The lokum is so so so good!
Dollop on the stuffed pepper (Biber dolma) is actually a dollop of thick full fat yoğurt , meat patties are called Köfte, and finally it is BaklaVa in Turkish. Baklava taste better with ground pistachio and clarified butter but it is more expensive.
Thank you! Really appreciate you sharing all of that information :)
Any one going to be in eastern europe in late Janurary and Febuary
Good question! Just to let everyone know we filmed this almost a couple of months ago.
As always nice video, thank you guys for all the food reviews. A small advice for Samuel: Because he is a man, it is not gently in those coutries, to wear a hat during a restaurant visit;-)
Thank you! Appreciate you sharing that. I did film this a while ago so I'm afraid I'll wear my hat again but in the future will try to keep it off.
FYI if coffe is over roastes it is bitter, if not roasted enough then it is soury arabica flavor, thats it
Oh thanks for letting us know.
Good #happyfany
Thank you!
I think Sam will eventually prefer holding his knife and fork the proper way. Sometimes it looks like he really wrestles with his food and I bet he'll find the orthodox way is more efficient and he'll be able to spend less time cutting and more time eating.
Thanks! I'll need a lot of practice :)
"Next-level tender"
_- Samuel 2018_

Hey, weren't you in Croatia? Where r u now exactly ?
We crossed the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is near the southern border of Croatia.
ohh ok...great to see that country also...thanks for sharing as always
Thanks! I feel it is quite underrated. Especially the food :)

I am from Bosnia
Cool to hear. Where do you live?
I live in Tuzla
I love cats I wish I could take them all home I have 3 at home. Do u guys have any pets at home just for interest.
I know what you mean! Ah, that is wonderful to hear. Our parents have cats and dogs and whenever we go home we feel so excited to see them.
Haha, if you go to Bulgaria, it's not bAklava or baklAva, its pronounced baklavA - the stress is on the final vowel.
All we gotta do now is check how the Greeks and Turks pronounce it and we can sleep easy after that.
Hahaha...oh, that is cool! Hoping to hear about that as well.
BaklavA final vowel stress in Greek as well
koritsi56 Thanks for confirming friend ;)
MusakA is also on the final vowel in Bulgaria, but the people in former Yugoslavia put the stress on the first or second vowel 99% of the time.
They probably say "MusAka" haha.
I know for a fact they say PEle and not PelE (the Brazilian football legend).
whats this place called?
We have an address in the description box below.
Oops sorry should've checked that out before!
omg lukas
Such a tasty meal.
Pr in any bosnian city
Cloying, I think.
ima li Bosanaca ha?
It should be Yoghurt on top of Dolma, not cream.
Thanks for letting us know!
stuffing your face is a good way to console yourself over the poor weather
Hahaha...it sure is! We do it often.
You're such an inspiration to husbands and wives. I wish that you will stay together up to the last place on earth.
Thank you very much! :)
Jesus, what happened to Sam's face? Suddenly he looks so young now!
Hahaha...thanks!
or my
:)
This is the bridge they blew up in the war..
You didn't drink the coffee the good way
It's Filo pastry not Puff pastry #foodnazi
Thanks for letting us know!
Omg that's disgusting with cats crawling all over the place. I wouldn't eat out side either.
I can understand that.
You certainly are showing not very big culinary experience nor discerning origins of certain foodies so some of your comparisons are just quite silly. I haven't seen such a great & healthy food at Vancouver Island like this one from Mostar so you are excused.
