Everywhere else technical perfection leads to perfect interpretation, not the opposite. Regarding the "poor low register comment" i rest my case..maybe you need your hearing checked. give me a better example, please. I have heard hundreds versions of this trying to find the best when I was studying singing. This one is so perfect I don't want ever try to perform this aria because I will never be as good as she is. I'd never achieve this level of the technique. I strongly disagree about 'cold' performance, had to listen it again just because of your comment. This is a concert version. Concert is about perfect technique and showing off the skills. The theatre performance would have been different, of course.
The final diminuendo is to die for!!! Many a soprano simply belches it out!!
The flautist at the extreme top right was tickled by the high note/diminuendo at the very end of the aria as per his smile.
