i been waiting for a looper like this. Don't get me wrong i love the experimental UI's and all the "tape" and circle elements to represent reels and spools but a SIMPLE clear UI no nonsense pure utility is what people performing live need
I hope it works for your setup! And do you mean that this UI should be simpler? If so, feel free to send me an email and explain what would make it better for you with performing live. shakysnakes@gmail.com
@@ianjojo i think actually i meant that you have made a nice and simple clean looper plugin :D it was more a comment on all the esoteric ones ive used over the years lol. just bought earlier this afternoon, keep up the fantastic work. Redwood will be mine next :D
Ahhhh this is awesome!! Just purchased. Already experimenting. To those experimenting w/ it. Try inserting LFO tool after it and using it to automate parameters. What a vibe this is! Thanks Ian
@@Long_Shoulder you’re right, just looked it up! it wasn’t on my radar because I’ve been cautiously avoiding modular gear because I know it will take all my money! One day though
Are you saving new presets in the preset panel? You'll only get asked to save/overwrite the json file if you've made new presets. If you are saving new presets and not getting this, please let me know and we'll sort out what's happening!
Appreciate you - I hope they bring you some musical inspiration. I appreciate that you've even found my videos somehow in this vast internet of stuff :) Cheers
If I keep the record button on, will the buffers continuously update from the incoming audio? I am a live musician And this looks like it could be fun; something to jam with.
Not quite - the Record button will only record for as long as the buffer length selected. However, if you map the Record button to some button on your controller, you can continually press it whenever you'd like to "grab" some new audio and this will work while the device is playing. It's a nice effect, where your loop is instantly replaced as it plays.
@@RowDan528 I’ll see what I can do! As for syncing, if you set the quantize setting to something like a bar, it will start recording on the 1 beat of the next bar, keeping things synced. But I’ll look into adding a mode that continually records!
This is a very musical device, I spent some quality time with it last night! I found it hard to capture a buffer right from a sample's beginning, was there a way to sync the record button with the transport? Or just drag a sample from the browser and maybe set the start point... Your device made me happy, I kind of lost myself and the results are immediately usable too. Thank you, best!
@@jimbourekas I’m so glad to hear you’re pleased with the results! Would love to hear them. And yes, you can use the quantize drop down to choose when recording will start. Set it to 1 bar and recording will begin on the next bar’s 1st beat. Let me know if you can’t sort it out and I’m happy to connect with you to demonstrate further!
@@ianjojo I think I found it, thanks! In other news, I tried to record some device knob movements but I see that the device registers automations too, so what's the plan here when you want to record repeatable/editable automations?
@@jimbourekas So you can definitely record automations of the device. When you're finished recording said automations, you'll see an orange button in the top part of Live, just below the project timeline. The button has a triangular play icon and a list icon. Hovering over this icon you'll see in the Help view of Ableton that it's called "Back to Arrangement". Clicking this will activate the automations you've just recorded. However, due to the nature of this device, specifically the Chance control, it won't be the same upon the next playback. The Chance uses random numbers so each time it runs, it's gonna come back with different results. For this reason, I'd recommend against trying to record a specific performance via automation, and instead, set up a second track recording the output of the Prismatica track so that you can capture every nuance of a performance. That being said, you can certainly record automation but certain things like the Play button are not automated so if you record a bunch of automation and then play your project back, you'll also have to ensure the Play button on Prismatica is activated. I'd recommend trying the other option I mentioned of recording the output of the device to a new track. If you'd like to reach out to me privately, I'm happy to walk you through this if my explanation is confusing. We can jump on a Zoom call or whatever works for you. Send me an email at shakysnakes@gmail.com cheers!
Yeah, I spent a lot of time thinking on this issue. Originally it didn't have any sort of timing control to determine when one loop will stop and another will start. So adding the time control alongside the chance control feels like you do have some ability to 'tame' it. For example, if you set the time to 8th notes and the chance to 100%, you're guaranteed that it will switch between the two loops every 8th note. I also had some fun automating the time knob to change it over time. One thing I have considered adding in a future update is a "manual" mode where you could assign a key to each of the loops ON indicator and manually trigger them on or off. With all of my devices, the release isn't the end of the cycle. I like to think of these things as a conversation with musicians. I truly appreciate the musicians who purchase them and so I want them to work how they want. Please do let me know how it's working for you and if there's something you think that could be added! Cheers :)
aahh is it supposed to save your audio?? i saved the project with prismatica containing audio, then reloaded the project and there was no audio in prismatica
Ahh no, I should have mentioned this in my video, it won't save your recorded loop when you close the project. I will look into a way to make this happen though! Thanks for bringing it up.
Just an update - I've got this feature underway. Added Save and Load buttons to save and load the contents of the main looper. Will do some testing and release it as an update soon!
Done. I've added Save and Load buttons to the main looper so you can now store and re-load audio. This is maybe not as slick as just having the audio you've recorded automatically reload when you reload the project, but at least this should work for now and allow you to store loops and come back to them later. The update is live now on Ko-fi and Gumroad and I've made a quick video walking you through the feature here: ua-cam.com/video/zpufnugb5FA/v-deo.html
