I have learned my lesson chasing all the performance upgrades. My next bike will get what it needs for comfort and maybe some slip on's for a bit of sound. No more cams, intakes, breathers and all that crap.
You are right. Dyno readings are just a hint of what your bike is doing. They can vary a lot. Seat of the pants is how I can tell if a mod is better or not. I run carbs on my bikes so tuning them, IMO, is better done by test rides than a Dyno. When I had a new larger S&S engine installed, after the break in period, it was dynoed to get the fuel mixture correct. Well it was too rich when I rode in higher elevations. An independent bike shop guy gave me smaller jet (only jet he had) to help me out while I was riding in the higher elevations. I came home from that long trip and rejected/tuned it myself and it runs better. It is obvious when riding it. It took multiple runs to get the correct jet size. While there are good Dyno guys out there I won't Dyno it again, it is running perfect. A lot of times the Dyno guy wants to "improve" the numbers. I don't know if they do this on EFI bikes. Personally, I prefer the Thunderheader exhaust for performance but they aren't for everyone.
I definitely feel the same on reliability because I actually ride the bike and I need it to always work. Now I do plan on getting another one, Softtail Cholo style, since I have a touring bike already. I want the SoftTail to be the fast one.
That settles it. I'm putting the SE 511 Cam with the Pro Street Tuner and not worry about the numbers. ( The only down side is still being stuck with the rev/speed limiter )
Hi from Uk great vid have put heavy breather and vance and hines pipes on my street bob and a tune she runs great and as you say knowing dyno figures wouldnt change that you stay free ride safe
Adam I don't think my old BMW R60/5 will ever see a dyno. I know when it's running good and when it's not. If it's not running good I put it back in the shop and check a few things and then it runs good again. Not many of us left that can set breaker points and tune an old Bing carb. 🤣
Put in a new cam and then had my HD trike tuned with dyno but not on the rollers. It's a lot of fun to ride in the mid-range, sounds good, gets about the same gas mileage on the highway and still has the same top speed. I have no idea what the numbers are but have a lot fun riding it now.
All good stuff! The numbers are just sort of a benchmark in my opinion. It’s all about the butt dyno, and the willingness/ability to use those numbers.
Also looking at the entire graph is important instead of just peak numbers. A lot of time you will see a mod make little or no peak horsepower, but will make a big difference in the lower rpm range which is where you normally operate a bike.
I am not a mechanic. I thought that you dyno your bike to get it to run at optimal efficacy. Getting the perfet air fuel ratio thru out it's range. The numbers are just a bonus.
All the horsepower means nothing if you don't have the skills to handle it. I prefer to run it stock and push myself to keep my skills handling the machine to it's maximum potential
Jochen's folly: Harley Davidson Inc went from having TWO reliable engines to 39 engine variants since 1999. All to have limited factory support as they age, in an extortion attempt to get the duped to buy new.
It really doesn't matter what my bike does except when I hit the key.I want to start.I want to run down the road. And run correctly and to enjoy it That's what matters to me And I owed a two thousand electric blood with an eighty eight on it
Most dyno's have the option of showing a reading adjusted for std conditions such as sea level at 60 F. This number is better for comparison purposes. Paying extra for cams, exhausts tunes is a con job from HD and Indian. Hondas come ready right out of the box no add-ons required. My Indian Vintage has a lower power to weight than my 1973 Honda 250. How is that possible with 50 years of technological progress.
You can have 250 hp, but it’s probably more fun to rip through the windy roads on a small bike with 40 hp. It’s alway more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow if the bike is not specifically built for the type of riding you are doing or if you are the only guy riding a certain way in your group. Example- the guy on the crotch rocket will be bored riding with a bunch of vespas but a group of vespas racing through the tail of the dragon are probably having a good time because they are competing with equals.
All I know is I ride the ride and that’s all I really worry about and when all those big horse power bike r on the side of the road I’ll stop and ask if they need help and a ride into town I love touring so it’s not all about how fast u get is when u get there can’t wait for the call and u tell me I won the bike lol and if I don’t hear from u hope u have a merry Christmas 🎄 and happy new year brother
LOVE that drawing of Scooter over your shoulder !
The heck with dyno results. Just ride the darn thing.

Only stat that matter: SMG. SMILES PER GALLON!

Absolutely right.

Truth!
never mind .i seen the bars Video...thanks guys like that setup
Excellent! The butt dyno means more.
I did a stage 1 on my 24 SG and have no idea what my numbers are.. Im ok with that.
Agreed on all points bro. Excellent description as well.
Appreciate the feedback 👊🏼

Can be used for tuning purposes or just measuring a number. Either way you're really just using it to measure changes you make.
Also what matters is the shape of the curve.
Exactly
What really really really matters is how much you enjoy your ride.
Your channel is an example of what quality content on UA-cam should be. Thank you for your hard work and effort!🍨👊🐂
Agreed 100%
Very high quality content! I look forward to new videos from you! 😘🍭

I hear ya, riding skills matter 💯
So true 👍🏻🇦🇺
It was the GAS

👍👍👍 Excellent video Adam 👍👏👏
Thanks for tuning in 👊🏼
@ Always a Pleasure brother !! How’s Texas treating y’all ?
Yep
It's not peak power, it is the average power in the rpm band that you ride in that makes the most difference.
Oh snap👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Stop listening to others, ride and enjoy whatever bike your on.

Hey just ride and have fun. Or spend a bunch of money and some one with more money will have more power😂
Just go buy a goldwing. No issues 146k miles. No paying extra for anything
That’s no fun
what bars and risers are those
Mythbuster lol
Did you put 89 in by accident?
😔
DYno's are for "Before and After"....anything beyond that its all hoooey....
so what your saying is it's not the size of the worm but how ya wiggle it?
All dynos are not the same. Any engine tested on two different dynos will yield different numbers.
