Hey Food Box HQ Family! Today we're unboxing, cooking, and taste testing RealEats to give you our review of this prepared meal delivery service.
RealEats works a bit differently than some other pre-made meal delivery services we've tried in the past. As you can see in the video, all of the meals come already made in little plastic pouches. These pouches are then boiled in a pot of water, sous vide style, to "cook" the meals".
I'll be honest, I thought this was a little crazy when I first saw RealEats but I have to saw that the vast majority of the meals we've had from them have been loaded with flavor.
A few things I do want to call out though... A lot of the meals are high in sodium so be sure to check the nutritional facts before ordering. Also, there is a lot of plastic involved in the packaging (all of which is recyclable). Last, some people may be uncomfortable boiling their food in plastic.

So this is like Sysco Foods, but for families instead of chain restaurants. We're gonna give it a try as we need some new way to supplement home cooked meals - and that way needs to be convenient and tasty and moderately healthy.
Have you tried the microwave instructions for any RealEats meals? Curious if the taste and/or texture would be noticeably different compared to boiling them.
What's the best ready to eat delivery in term of taste ?

Great! I found many of the RealEats meals to be delicious. Just keep an eye on the sodium content-some meals seem to be higher than what's in many other premade meal delivery services.
Would you recommend real eats or factor 75 for food quality and meal size?
Good question! Real Eats is delicious but I did find that many of their meals tend to be a bit high in sodium. Factor is one of our favorite premade meal delivery services so I'd have to give it to them when it comes to quality. That being said, premade meal delivery services are notorious for portion sizes being slightly smaller than meal kit meals. Hope that helps, Mubashir!

Which other pre-made meal delivery services are there that you would recommend? I need to check a few since I moved to the US not long ago and completely lack any skills required to make food (please don't judge me on that). My main preferences are meal quality and size i-e that it should be filling (I have a moderate appetite and do not eat too much or too less). Will be grateful for your response.
Just read they went out of business recently. I was just about ready to try their service. Oh well.

i think it would be much better to have more than one person doing the taste test. Having some kids dads gramps telling the camera if they like it would make for a better video, because i know everyones taste buds are not the same
You're right! We're a small team (family) and we have to have someone holding the camera though :/
The food is good but the 4 meal plan will run 19 bucks per meal (incl shipping in the total cost). I spend less than that on takeout per week. 80 bucks for 4 small meals is not worth it plus the high sodium content is not desirable either.

Choose an 8 or 12 meal plan and freeze the excess. I do this once every three weeks. The cost per meal goes down, and I can't tell the difference when I eat a previously frozen meal.

Factor is absolutely more reasonable than this meal service. IMO
Except factor doesn’t let you pick your meals AT ALL. It’s get what we give you and that’s bs
@Jessica Lazarus That's not true. They usually have around 40 different meals each week to choose from, they will pre-select if you don't select for yourself.
