Hey everyone, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today on our 2024 Honda CR-V, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, check it out and make sure it's gonna be the right hitch for you. So when it comes to the Honda CR-V, it's a really popular vehicle and they're really capable and people tend to do a lot of different things with 'em. So if you're looking to pull a trailer around, these accessories, or even a little bit of both, this hitch is definitely gonna get the job done. I think it looks good, really, you're just gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening there.
So pretty easy on the eyes and compared to some of the other hitches, they're all gonna be pretty similar, especially in terms of appearance. They're all gonna look about the same. Biggest difference is really gonna be the finish of 'em. There's another one available that it's gonna kind of hang down below the bumper and you'll be able to see essentially the whole hitch. But the benefit to that is you get a little bit higher weight capacities and there's a bracket on it.
It's kind of just better suited for towing. So if that's something you really only plan on doing, might be worth looking into. Now with that said, this particular hitch here is gonna work with all the different types of submodels of the CR-V. Whether you have a hybrid like we do today, a limited, sport, so on and so forth. This one's gonna work and that's something you're gonna have to pay attention to because especially for those of you that own a hybrid, some of the other hitches aren't intended to be used with a hybrid.
So just wanted to mention that and kind of let everyone know this is gonna work across the board regardless of what you got. We do get a lot of people wondering if the hands-free liftgate assist feature is still gonna work whenever you have the trailer hitch in place. And unfortunately today our model here doesn't come equipped with it, but I know from experience in the past on some older CR-Vs and it sounds like some of the other people's experience, it will still work. You know it'll interfere a little bit. Definitely you'll have to kick your foot to either side of the receiver tube opening and sometimes you have to practice a little bit to find that sweet spot to get everything to open.
If you're really struggling with it or for whatever reason if you can't get it to operate on your particular vehicle, I do believe Honda actually makes a relocation bracket that you can pick up, move that sensor over, and clear the hitch and get everything to operate again. This hitch is gonna have the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is extremely common and a ton of different things will work with it. It is going to use the standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, one doesn't come and included with the hitch, if you need one, not a huge deal. You can grab it here at etrailer or a lot of times too if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So if something to look out for there, the safety chain openings are a loop style and decent size, pretty easy to get to. So just about any size hook that you might have on your trailer should work out pretty well. As far as the weight capacities go, the hitch is gonna have a 525 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. That's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's a pretty high number and you should be able to use pretty much any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you'd want to, for example. And for the maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch, that's the weight of your trailer. Plus anything you might have in or on it. Now I do always like to recommend, it's always a good idea just to grab your Honda's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your CR-V can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple measurements and these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be about 14 inches. So for those of you pulling a trailer, you could probably use a ball mount that has a slight rise in the shank, right in that two inch range works good for most people. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three and a half inches, which is pretty good. So you shouldn't really run into any issues, but if need be,
