It's not hard to see why you are overwhelmed and taking work home!! You just do what you have to do to survive the first few weeks. So glad you have a classroom helper too which willl make assessments and testing easier. Alll educators are saying the expectations are too high especially since covid. Kids just basically lost a year during lockdown and are still catching up. So you are not alone in having to backtrack and teach things that are below grade level. Glad you made it through the first hardest week of the year! Thanks for sharing with us and taking us along on the journey with you. You are doing a great job on all fronts. Hang in there.

Love your videos! 1:35 Make a small copy of your daily schedule, laminate it, hole punch it, and put it on your lanyard. I also have my class list and bus list on there.

For your kids who have not mastered copying from the board and forming the letters take a yellow highlighter and write the few sentences for them. That way they can actually copy the highlighted letters. You won't do this all the time, but it does help students who are really struggling just to practice forming and spacing words.

You're doing a great job!!! When you are working in your journals please don't forget to have the students indent for new paragraphs. I teach 8th grade and students always forget to indent new paragraphs. Keep up the great work!!!

Maybe you can link some of the read alouds to your canvas page that students access. Teaching them how to access the page is a pain and some work, but it pays off in the future because you can just load things instead of printing and cutting for all students. Hope that makes sense.

Did you say that your kids go to school at 6:45????
    I must’ve heard wrong, right?

Yep that's right. Kids leave at 2:30!

6:45? Was that right? Our kids go 8:00 -2:30. Don’t apologize for taking work home, not all districts give planning time during the school day. Do what you need to do to feel prepared. Have a great year!

In coming, 3rd graders are technically 2nd graders, so be patient, you're going to have to model EVERYTHING.

6:45-2:45? The kids are at school for 8 hours? Yikes. We do 9:00-3:20 and they barely have the stamina for that...
