    He's spellbinding. When my daughter was 5 she said Planxty's 'Cure Me' sounded like a 'Spell'. Never a truer word. His voice is to be kept among the eternal things we all humans hold dear.

    I've listened to a bunch of them and this version has a longing to it that is so beautiful to me.

    Wonderful to hear this song from Andy. I always felt it got a little ridiculed from that Olympia bootleg in 1981 and to see it here so masterfully played is a great pleasure. He has a touch for beauty in the melody that no-one can touch I reckon.

    This is Andy´s Bass-Bouzouki made by Davy Stuart in New Zealand. When I met Andy last time it was tuned in deep DAEA.

    Lovely song. I'm afraid there is too much echo to make this as good as some of the other videos on UA-cam of Andy. He really is, for me, the perfect match of skill on the fretboard, sweet high and mellow low voice and perfect co-ordination between voice and instrument. Thanks Andy!

    Well, it seems that for this song the bouzouki is tuned C#G#EbG#, and with the capo on the 2nd it makes EbBbFBb.
    This is so beautiful and so well performed.
    Simply great.

    Agreed. It was his generation of "long hairs" that made traditional Irish music possible to be what it is today. One thing I also always loved about Andy was his time in the Balkans and Planxty performing it. Also need to remember people like Johnny Moynihan for introducing the bouzouki to these people. Always need to remember those bands like Planxty and The Bothy Band for what they've done.

    Excellent, Peter! You do a different version than the one I recorded and put on my channel.You are a great guitarist in my opinion. (I too, am a guitarist, for about forty years.) I hope you don't mind that I've made a video response to your terrific video. I enjoy it immensely. Truly.

      Kells is in Co. Meath. There is a Kells in Co. Antrim where Kellswater is a river.

      Andy is singing about Kellswater in County Antrim . it is about 2 miles from the twin villages of Kells and Connor . lies South from the town of Ballymena.

    Irish music is so gorgeous. Why is American pop music so junky and trashy?

    • @MrMusicguyma
      @MrMusicguyma 6 років тому

      Because pop music of most countries is disposable, like toilet paper. There is a lot of American music that is wonderful. You need to look a little harder in the smaller streams, not the sludge in the mainstream. Traditional Applachian music, (derived from Irish and Scottish music). Cajun music, Tejano music, a lot of Americana, bluegrass, old timey, the variety is endless. In fact, many Irish and Scottish musicians are picking on these forms and combing them with music of the old country . Check out the Transatlantic sessions. Peace.
