    It just me, or the audio of this video very low? I barley can hear her voice, and i already put my device's volume on the max.

    You should really make an e-course on interior decorating! I absolutely love how you bring vintage and big box store purchases together...that is a sign of creativity and good taste! I must check out Homegoods--the things you got there are so stylish.

    I am not a person who is into DIY and home improvement at all, but I have to say with the before and after shots of your beautiful home I am absolutely wowed. I do not have a vision for this stuff, when I see wallpaper or brown paneling in real estate I just walk right out...and clearly, I've missed out because your home is becoming more and more gorgeous!! Amazing.

      seltzermint5 it’s hard to see past what’s in front of you but once you’ve done it before it gets easier. We’ve decorated 5 houses so far (we’ve changed houses a few times!) and it has got easier. I agree that your house is gorgeous, Kitty. You have a real knack for decorating.

    You both did an amzing job ! I love the styling and the colors you chose. The flooring is beautiful. Defiantly not a dark dungeon anymore!

    That’s so beautiful! My house is so similar to yours, built in 1950s and has an unfinished basement with so much potential! I’m interested to hear more about the waterproofing you did before the drywall. We do have some issues with some water minor leakage in the spring. Also, if you’re comfortable sharing I would love to hear more about your budgeting and the estimated cost. We are at the stage with ours where we don’t even know where to begin! It would be a dream if ours turned out even half as beautiful as yours!

    • @kittycotten
      @kittycotten  6 років тому

      I will definitely talk about how we waterproofed the basement in more detail in my follow up video, but we used a system called the SealOnce Basement System: waterproof.com/sealonce-diy-basement-waterproofing-system/ It's actually a company and do-it-yourself system my grandfather invented!

    You did a great job remodeling. My favorite is the bathroom. I love barn doors. You have a great eye for style.
    I’d like to offer a piece of constructive criticism. Can you please keep your hair out of the way of the microphone? The rustling sound of your hair against the mic is very distracting and took away from a great video.

    • @kittycotten

    You have the loveliest taste! Here are my questions:
    1) How much experience do you and Joel have with this kind of stuff? Did you bring a lot of skills into the project or learn as you went?
    2) What kinds of plants are all of those? Do they do well in a basement?
    Thanks!

    • @kittycotten
      @kittycotten  6 років тому

      I'll go more into your first question in my follow up video, but we are total first time DIY homeowners. We googled/youtubed a bunch of stuff, but also my dad was a great resource for us since he's a very handy guy. He definitely raised me to know how to use tools and be handy around the house! We choose a mix of faux plants and low light plans for the basement. Hoping the low light ones survive because I love having plans in my home!

    Your microphone seems broken. You can fix it in post. The sound is just coming out of one speaker. Witch makes it annoying for people watching/listeting.
    But great video otherwise! :D

    fabulous.....well done..have you considered painting the brick white?

    • @kittycotten
      @kittycotten  6 років тому +8

      Yes! I think we need to do something with it because I don't really like the look of it now, but we didn't paint it before, because we didn't know if it would get too white down there. We might try and white-wash the brick and see how that looks. I also like the look of black brick, but we'll see...

    • @danieljones5217
      @danieljones5217 6 років тому +1

  • @Luna_4488

    When you do these remodels do you rent one of those large garbage containers to throw everything in? Anytime we do little projects to our house it is kind of a hassle for us bc of the waste from it and putting all of it in our trash. We've taken things to the dump but have thought of renting the kind that sit in your driveway for a weekend to help. Just wondering if you use these

    • @kittycotten
      @kittycotten  6 років тому +1

      We did a mix of hauling things to our city dump (in Minneapolis you get a couple of free vouchers per home per year for the city dump) and we used one of those Bagsters from Home Depot, which worked out really well. We demo'ed over a few weekends, but if we had been able to demo all at one time a large dumpster would've been waaaay easier!

    Kitty,
    Been a few months since I "stopped in" and all I can say is...WOW...You hit it out of the park for a mostly do-it-yourself basement remodel. You've added great functionality and value when/if the time comes to move on. you'll have a great future play area for your coming addition and... The deco is so relaxed/sophisticated casual with goodwarmth and it all flows so nicely.
    Great job! Tell your husband.... nice work!

    Came upon this video while looking for basement paint colours. We are debating between BM Chantilly lace and simply white... for an all over paint colour, like you. We also have a 1950’s bungalow. How are you finding the Chantilly lace 3 years later? Is it too crisp? Would you have preferred something a bit warmer, like simply white!

    Beautiful space, quality finish! Love the pouffe, the barn door, and the mix of black and brass (?) fixtures. Your second sofa could eventually be replaced with a futon - there are some beautiful ones available now that don't scream 'spare bed'.
    I think you've done well to leave some space to 'grow in to'... It will come in handy for play mats, bouncers, activity centres, play pens, and eventually, 'big kid toys' (baby stuff takes up a surprising amount of room)!

    Beautiful job! What a great space now.
    In your renovation process video, please cover the fireplace - is it wood burning or? Does it work? We, interestingly, have a chimney in our garage and clearly the fireplace is/was in our downstairs rec space and was paneled over. I'm also wondering about your drop ceiling removal/replacement process, because we have that, too.

    I am so obsessed with this space! Just a thought - if you were to use some of the space for the baby, maybe move that other seating area by the bathroom over to where the bar area is so that if you ever have to hide the toys you have those two closets to put things in so it doesn't look as messy! Also that way if you have people over and are using the bar area they don't have to step around kids toys? Just a thought, but I love how you guys have made the basement so bright but so cozy at the same time!

    Your basement turned out amazing! I have a similar style home and can’t wait to renovate our basement. I’m obsessed with the flooring transition and the barn door! Question for you: did you consider having to access the plumbing in the ceiling in the future before putting up a finished ceiling? My basement now has a plaster ceiling and part had to be demoed in order to access the upstairs bathroom plumbing when we had a leak. I’m scared to finish the ceiling (or fix the now hole until we figure out what we’re going to do) and thought drop ceiling would be the way to go in the future (even though it’s ugly!) would love to hear if you thought of a way around this!

      Overall, you did a great job . . . but the open door to the bathroom has the toilet as a prominent position in the sight line. Perhaps a reverse door, one that goes out from the bathroom would allow you to hide that feature. You might incorporate frosted glass to facilitate natural light. I appreciate that you are willing to grow with possibilities for future uses of space. Very well done, especially from a D.I.Y. perspective.

    How do you like your pedestal sink since you’ve installed it? Are you consider switching it out for a vanity or do you still like it?
